Pikeville has Byron Hammond transferring in from Betsy Layne, and Rylee Samons will also be playing there. He played as an 8th grader at Floyd Central last season.

Sounds like Pikeville is getting a couple good kids. 8th grader can go anywhere no questions asked, no matter how much varsity time they have, just like the Dingess kid. Are both of these kids going to be freshmen this year?

Samons will be a freshman, Hammond a senior.

Thatâs the only players on Paintsvilleâs roster that arenât from Paintsville. Theyâre from a town 15 minutes away. Any other questions HookedonHoops?
Ryan Gibson isnât from Paintsville is he?
Thereâs rumors a big kid from Logan that plays with Dingess on his travel team is coming to Paintsville also. But itâs just rumors as of right now.

I think Ryan Gibson has always gone to school at Paintsville.
It was reported July 28 on KY Prep Report that Ka'len Siebert a 6'2", 14 year old from WV (not sure what town), was coming to Paintsville. I don't know what grade he is in but he plays on the same Big Shots WV AAU team with Dingess and I think he may be living with the Dingess family. According to KPR he scores 20+ points and 10+ rebounds per game. HE should be a great addition to the Paintsville's team. You can read about him KPR.

Nope. Ryan Gibson moved there in 7th grade from Magoffin County.
The Seibert kid will be a sophomore and is from Logan.

With Whitaker going to Knott Co. How good does this make Knott and how bad does it make Leslie ? I would think Knott must be Regional favorite and Leslie will be bottom of Region.

I stand corrected and thanks for the info about Ryan Gibson.
If the Seibert kid is a sophomore how old is he? The KPR post said he was 14 and he was 6'2"?

Samons transferring is a hard lick for FC. athletic 6â5â freshman who has already been invited to camps all over the country. Just got done playing in a tourney in Vegas. Named top 2022 recruitment by a few small colleges out of their camps.

Hereâs an article about him.....

"Superman Samons" Will Wear Maroon Cape Next Season
Rylee "Superman" Samons will leave Floyd Central and run with Coach Elisha Justice squad at Pikeville High School next season. Samons says he is very excited to play for coach Elisha Justice and thinks a coach like Coach Justice can add alot to his game.
"Superman" Samons is a 6'5 player that can play multiple positions and is a threat to score from anywhere on the floor. We watched Rylee during an On-Point clinic and walked away highly impressed, he was a middle school kid that was giving the high school kids the buisness. This kid is deceptively very athletic and can see the floor extremely well. Rylee has a forwards frame with guard skills, last season as an 8th grader, Rylee set a Floyd Central record when he knocked down ten 3's against Magoffin County. On-Point's Coach Todd Howard had this to say about Rylee's game-
"Rylee is a lefty, long, athletic player that can shoot well off the catch. His ability to get to the rim and finish has substantially Improved during the off-season. His best attribute is, that he is often overlooked is his ability to see the floor and put the ball where it needs to be."
Samons grew up playing at Betsy Layne with Pikeville prodigy Laithan Hall, then had to move when tragedy struck his family. At the age of 10 Rylee had to deal with the loss of his first coach, he said it was the best coach he has ever had. The hard part about losing the coach was the coach was also his dad, before his dad passed away, he tagged Rylee with the nickname "Superman Samons". Rylee's dad knew Rylee was destined for greatness and he told Rylee to never stop chasing this dream, basketball will take you places. Rylee has received alot of accolades in basketball and his mother said she told Rylee that his dad is right there beside him every step of the way.
Samons rejoined his former Betsy Layne teammate Laithan Hall and another talented incoming freshman Zac Lockhart on the Hoop Dreams AAU team. The "Mountain Trio" just made national headlines when they helped lead their Hoop Dreams team win the Eastbay Fab 48 Tournament in Las Vegas. The Fab 48 Tournament has basketball fans from across the nation flock to Las Vegas every summer to watch elite players from around the world square off against each other in the famous Eastbay exhibition. Rylee has been named to the Rick Bolus Top 50 and was deemed a D-1 prospect by Rick Bolus himself. Rylee was also invited to Coastal Carolina's Elite Camp where Coastal Carolina, Wisconsin and Clemson all named him to their 2022 top recruit list. Rylee "Superman" Samons is the real deal and will make the Panther fans very happy this winter, we guarantee that.

Looks like Sheldon Clark will have a little company in the trouble boat (Floyd Central). rumor is this transfer was a direct result of how the coach treated the kid at summer camp.

That has to be one of the funniest articles I have ever read in my life. Superman and Pikeville Progidy. Lol. Both of them boys are really good though but they still have a long long ways to go. A lot can happen in 4 years. The 15th region is the weakest region in KY. I thought Rylie was the future of FC. Very surprised by the move.

Iâve seen the kid play. Heâs good, no doubt. Itâs his build that everyone is going wild over. Got height, long reach and athleticism already. Weâll just have to wait and see where it takes him. I wish the boy luck though

Going to pikeville to play there with his friend Laithan Hall. I think he is at least one year hold back but he is a talent young player.

You could argue that the Knott BOE is doing the dirty work in this instance.
I'm sure they may stay at Cordia if the threat of shutting the doors didn't continue to loom. And I'm sure none of these kids want to play for Knott after this debacle.
09-03-2018, 02:51 PM
The doors are not going to shut at cordia. At least not this year anyway and maybe even longer who knows but they will get this year in. The fact that a kid is talking about leaving has nothing to do with the threat of the school closing . There is a single " scum bag" that want to be a big shot sports agent that is running kids all over eastern Kentucky trying to sell them to the highest bidder. Everyone know this guy he has tried to sell these kids to Perry in the past 3-4 year. I know for a fact he has had one of them at Hazard ,pike co central, Letcher central, and Perry co. I won't mention his name because I will probably get my post taken down. He is in no way connected with any of these kids but he buddies up to them and promises them everything under the sun. Because he is trying to get a payday for them.

Oâhair kid from Estill, formerly of Breathitt, back at Breathitt, enrolled today..Breathitt also picked up a couple talented younger kids from their neighbor Jackson City..with what they already had, does this make them a 14th region contender??

I dont think it makes Breathitt a contender but it makes them better. Perry Central is bringing in a 6'9 kid today from Queens NY along with their 4 kids from Cordia. All they need to do now is bring Rod Rhodes back to help Hoskins.

So it seems like Knott, Perry Central, Breathitt and Hazard have all greatly improved their rosters by recruiting players for the upcoming season. No one could seriously think the KHSAA will do anything more than just rubber stamp everyone's eligibility and there is no possible way any of these schools would be penalized for "recruiting" (which is suppose to be against the rules) - so my question is why doesn't KHSAA just do away with the eligibility issues and allow open recruiting ? It clearly goes on anyway and the only schools that really seem to be penalized are the ones that try to follow the rules, so why not try to even the playing field a little and just get rid of those rules ?
09-11-2018, 04:31 PM
Contrary to popular belief, not every transfer is a "recruit".
