Back in March we had McConnell on record saying it was unlikely that the Senate would try to block the President's proposed tariffs. By July 11 he had reversed that sentiment and had cleared the way for a non-binding vote to do just that. ABTW, this was done while literally hundreds of duly passed House bills were sitting on his desk merely collecting dust because he refuses to bring them to the Senate Floor. And in the meantime, if these guys get their way and successfully get in front of the President's to date, entirely effective efforts at financial revitalization, what is to be the fate of all of the job growth, resuscitated IRA's, 401k's and pension plans? This President's policies are working, but if other world leaders become convinced that the Republican led US Congress doesn't really have the President's back on all this stuff I say we're toast.

I don't care how it is characterized, to give precedence to nevertrumpers Flake and Corker's ax-to-grind, over the above mentioned affairs of state is an incredible lapse of judgment and character IMHO. And let us not allow ourselves to succumb without at least a whimper here, McConnell if he were not in agreement, even possibly partially behind it, would not have done it. He can barely force himself to support the President on a single front, but he can rush this matter through? :dudecomeon:

My fear has been that American voters would eventually wake up, but that it would be at a point that would be too late. They did wake up. But reinstating even the limited number of traditionally conservative values which have been thus far attempted have been met with fierce opposition. The people of this land elected Donald J Trump to lead them for a four year period but again IMO, establishment types like McConnell, Ryan, McCain, Flake and Corker have done maybe not everything, but much within their power to get in the way of this administration's agenda. They're just much more soap opera-ish with the way they go about it. You know what I mean, their dress and diction is impeccable, but their actions are despicable. Added to our problems of course are the overt machinations of Democrats sworn to die on the hill of 'the resistance.' For example, all of President Trump's nominees are automatically rejected to the point of publishing the laundry list of grievances before the nominee's identity is even released. In the case of Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh, they just substituted the letters XX where Kavanaugh's name would eventually be until it could later be filled in. How self deluded and silly a people have we become?

But to this matter on the Senate's non-binding resolution to limit the President's powers on tariffs. How can we hope to negotiate effectively with foreign powers when 88 Senators, apparently limited by globalist mentalities, their deference to which would seem to supersede the interests of the American people, are out making end runs such as this? I mean I know the rest of the world is in chaos, but I nonetheless always expected sanity to have it's place in the minds or our leaders. About the only way I can imagine that the specter of the encroachment of globalism could become any more clear, would be at the time when the identity of that world leader is revealed. I guess at that point 'flakes' McConnell and Ryan can throw a 'corker' of a wing ding in celebration.

I'm with you on that. Alison Lundergan Grimes, Ashley Judd or ol Mitch. Not much by way there of legitimate opposition. At the time though, Obama was in the midst of his kingship which seemed and was ultimately onerous, but being in the minority and occasionally saying the right things Mitch had been afforded some political cover. Once he became Majority Leader he had no choice but to help vote in legislation he had in fact been misrepresenting his true feelings about, or else show his true liberal/progressive beliefs in holding back such legislation.

Guys like him and gals like Nancy Pelosi somehow become entrenched in high office and getting rid of them becomes nearly impossible. The longer they're in office the weirder their mindsets become, and the more impressed with themselves they become. They tend to hold the interests of their constituents in low esteem and govern according to the gong absurdities which nowadays abound within the beltway. If Mitch's case does not scream out for term limits I don't know what would.

ABTW, I would LOVE to see Mitch's runnin buddy, the lame-in-every-way Paul Ryan hit the trail much sooner than later. In fact a surprise announcement taking affect for this Friday evening would not be too soon. Which action would clear the way for a man like Jim Jordan to rise to the Speakership and the pollution index would improve overnight.

That's what they want to believe you're absolutely right about that, and I know more than a few teachers of retirement age who foam at the mouth when they speak of it. And it's not just the teachers, any union that hooks it's retirement trolley to the government, is doomed for failure. Collectively retirement funds are in serious trouble in the best of circumstances. I mean, what do people think when they hear that the US has 205 Trillion in unfunded liabilities? That amount is 10 times the annual GDP of the US which is richest economy in the world.

Millions of seniors depend on retirement pensions and Social Security because they were promised it would be there for them. The financial system will fall like a line of dominos, and in about the same amount of time, and nobody in the Congress seems to get it.

Hi there Gut. One would think those associated with the teaching profession might wield a little more brain power than what we've seen from the teachers of Kentucky. Or possibly they all need a crash course in remedial mathematics. But instead of teachers being upset with the liars whom misled them as to the state of their promised retirements, they double down and get mad at the ones who tell them the truth. I wouldn't like to hear that my pension was under threat either, but I'd direct my anger at those actually responsible for squandering the funds in the first place, not Gov Bevin who at least has character sufficient to tell them the truth. The sad truth is this, money spent is money spent. One cannot wish it back. But in the article following, is the reality of the financial state Kentucky presently finds herself.

Democrats and their supporters are willfully ignorant of the truth. Politicians, by way of standard practice, lie to their constituents. And as is the case concerning Kentucky's teachers, most prefer to be lied to because it's what they want to hear. Simply put, Dems use tax dollars to buy votes. Those tax dollars which were originally meant for roads, bridges, state parks, all manner of government services, police departments, utilities, pension funds and just about anything else one could list that constitutes life in America, have been diverted to give-away programs for the so-called poor. So, when you see a popup tent on the corner giving away free cell phones, or when in line at the grocery and a young and virile appearing person pays for his replete buggy load of fare with a credit card courtesy of the American taxpayer, or thanks to ObamaCare, when at the ER you see the endless line of fake illnesses and injuries coming in to get their pain killer RX; You're watching your teacher's pension funds going up in smoke. 2 plus 2 will always add up to four, even if the La-La's wish otherwise.

In such manner morality in this country has been turned up on it's head. Yes we are to help folks. But no, we are not to create 'a life of Riley' for them. Especially when the majority refuse to work at whatever job they can find as if they're too good, while at the same time are being led by Democrats to cast aspersions upon the very folks who are forced to pay for their life of ease. Or to spew flaming contempt for Republicans and conservatives as if their industrious nature of being self sufficient, has somehow held the poor folks down. Exactly right. And the underlying rationale behind the Dem's way of looking at things is actually not very complex.

In order to understand the liberal rationale we must consider first, the time frame in which these guys grew up. After the horrors of WW2 had been washed away by the sacrifice and blood of this nation's citizenry, the US had undergone the ultimate attitude adjustment. The soldiers and sailors fortunate enough to have returned home, went from not knowing from one day to the next if they would be killed in action, to the blessings of life in a safe environment. In their minds, it was a privilege to go out and find a job, (yes even pumping gas and cleaning windshields). Men were thrilled to have families and take on the responsibilities of head of household.

But though the perspectives of these brave men and women, forged by the indescribable horrors of war, in fact shaped the society in which we all grew up, those hard lessons which gave them their perspectives have been washed away by something as innocuous as the passage of time. So to get to the point here's what I am saying... with the passage of time, so too has passed the benefit of their wisdom and leadership. Thus most people leading the charge these days are by-in-large naïve. And I'm speaking across the board here. Teachers are likely the worst offenders as they teach our youth all sorts of hogwash, and they do so devoid of any real world experience on their own part. What these people teach in their classrooms is almost completely unregulated. The quintessential example of inexperience born of the ranks of academia suddenly elevated to prominence in the real world, is that of one Barack Obama. A miserable failure as President, a man who nonetheless was so in love with the sound of his own voice that anything he said to him, became reality.

Even leaders of the US military have been affected, as though they are old enough to know better, more and more instead of the sage wisdom which governed thought in this country under the great generation, we're getting liberal drivel from the ranks of the US military. Trump hating criticisms come from the likes of high ranking officials such as Air Force General Michael Hayden, and Admiral William McRaven. Similarly afflicted but to a far greater degree are the US Congress. In fact outside the Freedom Caucus, one has to wonder if there is a single original thinker among them. And things only get worse from officials in state and city governments across the land, as tinhorn politicians emulate the ridiculousness on display in the Congress.

But I said the liberal rationales driving the actions of the left are not complex. Because since 1945 owing to the successes of WW2 and the subsequent new world order, this country has enjoyed almost continuous economic growth. Therefore most of the leaders now in power have never known any form of real hardship, much less the common man across this land. And as such a great number of folks just cannot wrap their head around the idea that for the US to continue in it's position of world prominence, fiscal responsibility is a non-negotiable. In other words, like a rocket attempting to achieve escape velocity, there is in this land, a lifelong misconception among Democrats. That being an inescapable gravity created by the idea that government can be the grantor of all one's wants in life.

Such an idea is a mania which has managed to sweep common sense from ruling the minds of men. As the American dream and the blessing afforded one in the land of equal opportunity, have been supplanted by unreasonable and simple minded expectations. Among them is the one in which a one dollar lottery ticket gives one a reasonable chance of achieving great fortune, or that Extreme Makeover will just 'give' us a fabulous house to live, or that Publisher's Clearing House will knock on our front door with the promise of 7,000 dollars a week for life. Some people just prefer to believe fortune is a stroke of luck. So they sleep till noon waiting for that knock on the door instead of laying hold of self sufficiency through gainful employment.

I don't think teachers are that goofy, and I don't think a life spent in a responsible dispatch of service to that end is in any way unworthy of the pensions promised. No, where teachers and union workers alike have made their error, is with the ones with whom they have chosen to make their bed. At some point Democrats realized they could use tax dollars to buy votes. But as with any pyramid scheme, eventually all the syphoning off of tax dollars for vote buying through give-aways (which should have been used for the legitimate governmental concerns of the common good, like say, pensions for example?), has drained government coffers dry. Thus the only option in a Dem's mind is to raise taxes. Because it is easier, instead of being accountable to the taxpayer they serve, to create for cover, the present day fictional moral high ground. A place of delusion where politicians insist that ours is to take care of the poor at any cost. In such a state of hypocrisy, Dems shift the blame for their own lazy failures to the already beleaguered and abused taxpayers, telling us we should be ashamed of ourselves for being so selfish as to not want to pay our 'fair share.' In truth, Democrats cannot deliver on their promises because they have to payoff everybody in the zoo-stew of special interest groups which comprises their base. In living for today, they (Democrats) foolishly and unashamedly burned through teacher's pension funds

Teachers would be well advised to sever their ties with Democrats whom have no compunction with filling their ears with lies and unfulfillable promises.
