Was told Owsley beat Leslie 19 today.
Haven’t seen enough of the teams to really have top 10 but top 5 would be

1 Knott
2 Owsley
3 Leslie
4 Hazard
5 Perry/Letcher
#4
Heard that Leslie had some players to not play today, heard they beat Owsley by lots just last week.

Leslie had full squad today but last week Owls didn’t have 2 starters. Senior guard and junior wing player

Really hard to predict right now when it comes to Perry, Hazard and Leslie. We don't know who is coming back for Perry. We don't know who is going to coach Hazard and how will Leslie girls respond to Sparks. Losing Coach Collett was worse than losing any of the girls.
#7
Leslie girls will miss Coach Collett, but from what I heard, Sparks is doing some terrific coaching. The lady eagles lost by 4 to a very good Casey County team, and lost by 20 points to Lincoln County, which is a top team in the state last week, South on the same day lost to Casey county by 13 with all their team playing along with Perry Countys Sydney Hall. Lincoln County beat South by 50 last season with the same team that played Leslie. Having said that: With the Meyers and Mullins girls on the court, anything is possible in a game. Losing Coach Collett was a hard loss. Larry Sparks, has LOTS of experience in coaching and will prove that into the basketball season.
#8
Oh no, no disrespect to Coach Sparks. And not saying he won't do a great job, but I've seen players play differently (sometimes worse, sometimes better) for new coaches. Just saying we will have to see how that goes.

What will Perry Central be like next season? Is Hall leaving for South Laurel? If so, losing her and graduating Profitt & Fields, they lose top 3 scorers from last season.

Hall ain't just leaving she's done gone. Great pickup for S. Laurel and John Walker. That leaves room for Hoskins at R. W. to pick up the pieces. Very talented player, IF she stays with Perry Central. Rumors abound whether she'll stay with PCC or be leaving too...

bball321 had a great list, I'll just say this for it.....

1. Leslie County
2. Knott County
3. Owsley County
4. dead heat between Letcher, Hazard and Perry Central for 4th.
5. see above
6. see above
7. Estill County
8. Wolfe County
9. Buckhorn
10. Jackson City

That's my spin on it, but it is very early.

I think Leslie is going to disappoint some folks who think they will finish atop the 14th region this year.

Don't know about that Boogie! But those Eagles should be flying high come season start. They played some great ball last season and at times had the look of champions. The 54th District Tourney was a absolute barn burner and brought a massive smile to this Bball fan's face. LCHS Vs. PCC was incredible!

The greatness is definitely there with the Lady Eagles.

Estill’s best girls player, Brewer, has moved back to Breathitt. Supposedly enrolled this week. Also O’Hair (not sure of the spelling) who was a key component of last year’s boys region title, has moved back to Breathitt too.

New season new team so when I make that statement I’m forgetting everything that happened last season. I’m simply basing it off what I saw this summer. That’s just my opinion but we will see as the season plays out. Honestly I think the 14th is wide open this season

Even with Brewer I didn’t think that Estill would have still been a top 5 team.

Fatpat must have a brain fever or delusional because the region has at least 4 teams that could come out as the champs in the end. Knott is going to be good, especially Jada, but they better not have too many hiccups because there’s a few teams right on their bumper with room to pass. They’re number 1 for sure but there’s no gap down to a number 6 for the rest of the teams, they’re a very close 2nd.

Well, I’ll start with a Leslie County team that only lost one player off the region runner-up team. Then Hazard is going to have great guards. They’re a player. Letcher will be pretty good. Don’t know much about Perry’s prospects after the Hall girl left. Owsley is very young but won’t be a pushover.
Knott lost some good players to graduation so they will have to replace those girls. No doubt they’re the top team and Jada is the top player but they’re not going to simply glide through the 14th without any resistance.
#24
Hazard was the Region runner-up.
#25
Jackson Wrote:Hazard was the Region runner-up.
Yes. I wasn’t thinking when I posted. But Leslie did have a successful season and won games over all the good teams in the region. I think they just lost one starter.
#26
I haven't seen any mention of Wolfe County being a top contender on any of these threads, I think the Lady Wolves are getting overlooked. I have them as a top three team in the region. In my opinion, Hailey Smith is at worst a top five player in the region. She's got a very talented supporting cast around her and a very good coach. I don't understand why they're not a consensus top five team.

1. Leslie County
2. Knott County Central
3. Perry County Central
4. Wolfe County
5. Letcher County Central
6. Hazard
7. Jackson City
8. Estill County
9. Powell County (Probably a little low, they will make the Regional Tournament and with a good draw advance a round)
10. Buckhorn

Has the KHSAA moved Owsley County to another region????

Apparently the Ole Man is suffering from memory lose or is delusional. Must not get out and watch much girls basketball. No way Owsley isn’t top 5 and probably top 3 in the 14th.
#30
Owsley lost their best player in Gibson, they return Lynch who averaged right at 13 PPG last season for the lady Owls. No way are they in the top 5. I do believe they are a top 10 team but not top 5 nor top 3. No one from the 56th is a top 5 team this season.
