Mayfield Messenger sports reporter just said the series will not continue after this year. He said it was because of the new alignment . There has been some great games that helped out both teams.

Sad to see it end. The games have been fun every year. Best of luck to the cardinals going forward.

Maybe your next team will play Mayfield.

I love random scheduled opponents. Corbin/Mayfield showed some guts to stick their neck out in this regular season game (like Beechwood/Corbin). Sad to see it end and I don't have a dog in that fight.
I hear Boyle Co has a good one to be announced soon. Stay tuned.

Man... Hate to see this one end. I always liked making this trip to watch these programs battle it out. Not to mention there has been some barn burners!! Its only made both teams better playing it the past, but all good things must come to an end. Good luck to the card's going forward.

Sounds like 2019 would be a good year to start a Belfry and Corbin regular season game then I’m pretty sure Belfry and Louisville Central are going to be a regular season game from what I’m hearing from the staff

I've heard names like Bowling Green or a renewal of the Highlands series.

I think the one thing that really made the Corbin v. Mayfield game unique and interesting, was the fact that they are on opposite ends of the state, playing at what was essentially the half way point between them.
You don't see a ton of East v. West matchup's, ever. For me, that was what was the best part about it. There aren't a ton of games where there is that much distance between two quality teams.

I loved this game but understand why itâs ending. I wish it wasnât though. Itâs always good to see two state powers from opposite ends of the state play. Seemed like a lot of respect going both ways in this series too. I know that Iâll always pull for the cardinals unless playing the Hounds.

Corbin has picked up Bowling Green and Highlands on the 19/20 schedule I am pretty sure.
Mayfield game was a great game and I hate to see it end. Maybe next go around they will get it back!

If I could pick one team for Mayfield to get back on the schedule that they haven't played in a long time it would be Christian County.

Mayfield has to travel east to find competition. Desert until you get to Bowling Green.

I always wondered if there were any good programs in Illinois, Missouri, or Tennessee that are close to mayfield.

We have played some from each of those state over the years. This past year we played Union City, TN who won the 2A TN state title this year. In the past Milan who won titles in a couple of the years when we played. There are several good and a few great programs in TN. The Nashville area, Clarksville, Jackson and Memphis have some that are reasonable drives from around a hour to just under 3 hours. Mo. is a little more difficult, there are no bridges connecting MO and KY direct so you have to go to
Cairo, IL or Dyersburg, TN to cross into MO and once there it is a good distance to find a quality opponent. We played Cape Central out of Cape Girdeau for years, Sikeston for a time and a Poplar Bluff a long time ago. In Illinois we once played, and beat, East St Louis when they were ranked #1 in the largest class in IL. It was, in my opinion, the best team any Mayfield team has ever faced and that includes the likes of Nashville Brentwood Academy back in the late 70's. The win vs E St Louis saw us with a 3 score lead late when the woke up and we won by a single point. We were smart enough to never play them again. I believe former NFL superstar LB Brian Cox played in that game. We more recently played Bellville Altof, a large private that is good but nothing special. From their stadium one can see the Arch and skyscrapers of St Louis which is neat for us rural folks from WKY.

For me the Mayfield-Corbin series is unique due to it being a rivalry of sorts. Why I call it that is because of the programs long history. They played twice vs each other in the state title game back in 1976 and 1977 with those being splits. In the early 1980's they played each other in the most famous bowl game in the state the Rec Bowl in Mt Sterling and of course they have the recent series going. Through all those games they have generally been very competitive and both in my opinion are KY Blue Bloods. I hope they can someday renew this, its a great and well respected rivalry. Because of the long history and having had Corbin frat brothers and even a room mate, I have always pulled for the Hounds. Easily my favorite team from the wrong end of the state

55 told me he was going to check the Cards schedule and send 64 a t shirt of whoever we pick up so they can continue to have banter with each other.

Reitz is usually up for games with Ky schools. They have broken even in recent years but were stronger 5-6 years ago.
