Who will be the next coach at Paintsville?

The Blue Blur Wrote:Maybe this isn't the parents feelings on this maybe this is the players? No not former players either, I'm talking about current players.

The players shouldn't get to pick the coach either. I don't know where you are going with this...

IMO JTA is the most logical choice. No he may not be the "Name" the parents or the "never weres" would like to see as head coach. However he along with Joe C. are a couple of the few coaches that the kids respect and will play their hearts out for. I want to see our school be the best they can be, not only in sports, but also in the public eye. If those that are doing the hiring give in to political pressure, or hire someone because of who they know, they are not looking out for the best interest of the kids. Every descision made in a school system needs to be done with what is best for the kids as the only factor in making that decision.
Sorry I was so wordy.

I agree. Plus, unless they have a teaching spot open, Coach Allen is the only teacher with coaching experience and by law the school must give the job to any teacher that applies if all the other choices are not teachers. Also, if I were Coach Allen and they past me up again, I would leave the school system, right then and where.

Guess I'm not going anywhere other than saying not all the players would want JTA as their head coach. I think it would cause more problems than you know. PC 98 mentioned Mo Dixon, I think he would be the logical choice. He done a great job at Hazard a few years back and is a proven winner.

They should have a teaching spot open as Chuck Rowe (Math Major) left recently for an asst. Principal spot in Floyd County. They have a Serious need to feel both spots, anyone thinking of someone they could fill both with??? I have heard of one name and researched them and believe they would be a FANTASTIC fit. Paintsville would have to ante up though. But they should from what I know and have heard from this name!

Unfortunately, having a teaching spot guarantees nothing. I wish it weren't so.

If JTA were the only teacher to apply, it would guarantee him the job.

That is true, I'm not sure what kind of contract they gave the replacement for Rowe. Paintsville has never paid big bucks to bring in someone and I don't think it would happen now.

well i have to throw a name out that some might know Hans Doder(sp?) father of there running back last year he has a teriffic football mind and just moved to paintsville to teach i think

doderer would be good but i just cant see him getting the job

drop that name guru you know you want to.

I won't know more until around the beginning of April. (SBDMC) meeting. However, I did find out that the replacement for Rowe was only hired on as a full time sub. so a teaching spot is open next year.

Any chance that David Lemaster could return?

ive kinda gotta lean toward jimmy daniels

But trust me in that this person IMO would be the best fit possible at PHS and many, many schools!!

Excellant, sounds just like a circus in the Math department! Just what every parent wants to hear. I won't go into the freshman algebra issues, but they are abundant.~~~subliminal message hire a football coaching math teacher~~~~ Sounds like PHS needs to refrain from planning to buy city blocks, (stop using problems from open lunch to motivate such expenditures this could be done by actually enforcing the discipline code and using those stupid paddling papers you send home!). Rethink improving decent gyms and actually finding adequate math teachers and paying a decent living wage. ~~~Hire a football coaching math teacher~~~You're not dealing with just doctors, lawyers, and indian chief's wives anymore. Pay a decent living wage, hire the best QUALIFIED and not the most popular or the super's fav. Try your best to have them sign contracts. Poor Ol Lawrence County is learning about this the hard way! As for football, why not look to the best out there and not just the best @ PHS... good grief. ~~~Hire a football coaching math teacher~~~ I like that guy from Lexington Christian. Good Christian. Great MATH teacher. Great Coach, Fine man, excellant role model. Just the type of guy Paintsville High School could use. Hopefully he wouldn't get "cvikovic'ed" by the "buddies". He's graduated from high school, from Brother Donnie Patrick's hometown, Williamsburg, Kentucky. He's married to a Paintsville girl(PHS grad), he's a Math major and she's a science major & curriculum specialist. They have (3) kids and he's known to love a challenge. Coming to Paintsville would be a fantastic fit if he's up for a challenge! We're a small town with a small town school and a HUGE Tradition. He's also a actively practicing Baptist and we have a dandy Baptist Church right around the corner from both the elementary and high schools! Read his profile on Lexington Christian's football website. He's a mover and a shaker alright! Come on SBDMC and BOE!!! Do what your constituency wants you to do for a change! Trim the deadwood, run off the moochers, "table" the real estate purchases(PHS Alumni Assoc.), and do what's right and what will enable our students to compete in every arena.(BTW who won the raffle?)

This guy sounds like an excellent choice and I know about all the "other" plans our school has and I just don't understand where all the money is coming from? I'd much rather see us attract the best teachers from around the state instead of playing "monopoly" by buying lots that we probably can not afford. If we have all this spare change lying around, let's hire some outstanding teachers to keep PHS on top. This guy sounds like a great choice but I feel like we already have a great choice at PHS in Coach Allen. He's been in the system for several years and even has college coaching experience. I'm not taking anything away from the man you mentioned I would just like to see promises kept.
#48
Promises? Who has the authority to make such a "promise" on behalf of an enitre system whenever said system is governed by a council and a BOE. No "one person" can have that kind of power and if they do, we're in deep trouble. Can we agree that MATH TEACHERS are desperately needed? Not just any old Math teacher, because we've suffered thru this year with just any old math teachers. This guy is tried and true in the head coaching job department and we've got guys coming into their junior and senior years who have already played for two different crews, actually three if you count Chuke running the show year-before-last. I'm not going to take anything away from your choice because he could flunk my son out of science LOL... if he didn't bring him muffins...LOL but seriously if we want to do what's right and keep a few promises, we ought to offer our young men the finest coach we can afford, offer our students the finest math teacher we can afford, and kill two birds with one stone! A "two'fer" if you will! Coach Rains wife, could actually have our kids ready for high school science, which would even help Coach Allen + it would bring three more students into our system! It's a win-win situation and I'm all about winning!
#49
You preach it brother snake. I'm like you I have nothing against Allen other than feeling as if he's not the proper choice to help these young men who have had nothing but coaching changes throughout their careers, have a successful year. Rains sounds like he would be a perfect fit, that is if he would want to come to Paintsville. He has a nice job at LCA, and although it sounds appealling to come to the Tigers I really can't see him leaving Lexington. Maybe you know something that I do not.

If they hire someone from inside the school system, the SBDMC doesn't have to make the decision. The principal can hire a football coach if a teacher is interested in the job, but I've heard its going to the SBDMC. You are correct about the seniors and juniors having to go through another learning experience as far as systems go but if Allen were chosen then there wouldn't be so much changing. AND YES math teachers are a must. I do not know much about your choice other than what you have posted but I feel confident that either person would be a good fit for PHS. However, do we have a position open for his wife in the science department?( I know little about the grade school teaching positions.)

PS- The "promise" qoute wasn't meant to infer that it would guarantee him the job, just that he would have certain support when it was needed.

Rowe also taught integrated science along with his role (no pun intended) as a math teacher. That opens up a spot for Rains and his wife but I do not know if Paintsville would pay 2 salaries rather than one. As far as promises, I think the promises are being made to the wrong folks. They should promise these kids they will find them the best coach possible, and not use the buddy system to lasso one in.
#52
If I'm not mistaken Paintsville Elementary will be in search of a Science teacher at the of this school year. Could Ms. Rains possibly be suitable for that position? Is her degree in Elementary or MS/HS. I think that Ms. Kincer (Science teacher at the elem. school 5th/6th grade) was only hired until the end of this school year to fill Ms. Shubinski's position that was left vacant in December.

Just a thought.

I think the planets are lining up for this decision. Should be a pretty simple one, a downright "No Brainer". Maybe for ONCE 'ol Coy David Samons will make a decision based upon what is best for the ALL the students of the Paintsville City Schools and not what "someone" told him to do.

Sorry to dbl. post, but remembered this one late. If Paintsville can remodel and buy city blocks, they can hire adequate teachers for MATH & SCIENCE for goodness sakes & finish the softball Field of Dreams. If the real estate thing is being pushed by the PHSAA and some other inside folks, then they can help the school do what's best for MATH, SCIENCE, and if Football gets a bump from it, well, HOORAY FOR FOOTBALL! For once a decision could be made that makes some sense and people with honest to goodness certifications will be placed in positions where they can benefit the students! Let's go Samons, Mr Bolen and SBDMC, work together for the good of the entire school! Remember: "It's a foul wind that doesn't blow someone good fortune"!

I agree and I think the school system could pay the two salaries. If post about a science teacher needed at grade school is true this could possibly workout. I'm just not sure if it will. I'm with you snake, let's get it together and make a smart hire. Not for the politics but for the school, student and team.

I agree the "other" projects should be placed on the back burner until we have certified teachers under contract and I firmly believe in finishing one project (softball field) before moving on to the next. I'm all for PHS improving but let's make sure we have a solid foundation first (solid teaching). Like I have said before, your pick sounds like a great one, but I'd just like to Coach Allen be given a shot at it; he knows the game and has paid his dues and I truely feel he is one of the best PHS can afford. (he's already here)

2000PHS, Thank you so much for allowing us to discuss this in a nice fashion. I believe we want what is best for the STUDENT-ATHLETES. I FIRMLY WANT SOLID MATH & SCIENCE TEACHERS FIRST, but if we're gonna have to hire a MATH TEACHER, WHY NOT HIRE ONE THAT BRINGS MORE TO THE TABLE?(if this MATH TEACHER CAN BRING SOLID CHRISTIAN VALUES, AN ELE. SCIENCE TEACHER, AND 3 STUDENTS, then bring them on! HooHaw!)
I'm sure JTA knows football, sometimes good things can come to those who wait. Sounds like this one should be given hearty consideration because the choices we make now will impact the STUDENTS well into the future and that doesn't mean just the athletes! Our community needs to be producing its own engineers, doctors, dentists, accountants, etc! Some of these folks might attend college due to an athletic scholarship, but most will attend due to strong academics! If our choice for a strong MATH teacher can serve double duty with FOOTBALL and FCA, then I believe both Rains and Allen could work well together. How exciting would it be for both gentlemen to get that opportunity? All students could get behind that combination both in the classrooms and on the field! I'm with you, finish one project (Field of Dreams) before opening another new can of worms!

I agree we need the best teachers in every subject and I fully understand that the majority of students (over 99%) will be going pro in something other than athletics.( to steal a line from an NCAA advertisement). Hopefully whoever we bring on to coach will make this a place they retire from and aren't just using this as a stepping stone(not implying Mr. Rains would this because I know nothing about him) I don't see how Paintsville could go wrong with either decision.

PS-You will notice that when it comes PHS I want the best for them, and not just on the field but also in the class room because thats what PHS is all about. I say this with full conviction- may the best man get the job because that's what the kids of our great school deserve.

IMO, Rains would be a dream!!!
Not taking anything away from JTA!! I really like him even if I have not agreed with most of his defensive strategies.
But I just believe that a person with ALL of the qualities that Rains has, he would be exactly what every parent would wish for to lead their sons and daughters not only on the field, but in the classroom where he would spend the bulk of his time with our youth!
Now to reality!!!
Since I have seen 'Ol PHS take the easy way for the past few years, I just chalk this up to another decision that keeps Paintsville slinging mud and not really even care if it gets out of the rut!
Please prove me wrong....I beg you!
As far as I know, Rains isn't even looking, but that doesn't mean you can't give the best effort to try and persuade him!
