Perry Central coaching search
SwallowedMyWhistle2 Wrote:Was just told that Coach Napier has pulled his name out for a number of reason, but the biggest begin his Dad loves Rockcastle and couldn't come with him to Perry.

Let the search continue.

I sure hope this isn't true, was looking forward to working with him. Hopefully they are still interested in the Prestonsburg job, here that he is a favorite.

Rumor has it... This is false, and besides that would be a disaster for P-Burg. The Blackcats are better then that and already have their sights set on a good coach.
CoachWMills Wrote:Yeah at CLAY CO, not a Powerhouse! They have only won 5 games since he left. He did produce at SEC Player. Last time I checked, Clay CO wasnt a Football School, just ask Glen Gray.

You suggesting Napier produced Jacob Hyde is all I need to know about your background.
Coaches don’t just produce their players, they are born and I’d venture to say Jacob Hyde produced Jacob Hyde not Napier. Hahaha

So you are saying that No Coach has anything to do with the development of any of his players? They are just born that way? Granted the Micheal Jordan's of the world are born some great natural talent, but yet he even got cut.

I would say Coaches have an impact on the development of players. Just guessing.

As a rule I hate the grammar and spelling police on message boards, but since you appear to be a coach and teacher, I'm going to make an exception, it's HEAR, not HERE.
Perry needs to give it to someone? Ovie should get it. The kids deserves better. I really don't think no one outside the program is really interested in it.
SwallowedMyWhistle2 Wrote:He does have a winning record against Perry and he got the coach at WC fired because he beat them at WC.

:truestory:

That is false. The coach got himself fired.
Bulldogs4Ever Wrote:Dont matter if they bring in Lou Holtz. The problem is at the youth level. The majority of the youth coaches over the years never even had football backgrounds. They start hiring/paying people to coach football instead of expecting people to do everything for free, things may change (Im not saying 1000s of dollars, just something). Got to get some people in there with football experience and someone thats well educated while knowing football terminology. Ovie Canady already knows this and has been trying to improve in this area. It will take some time.

I agree with everything you said.
CoachWMills Wrote:Coach Napier is a great man and a great coach. Players love to play for him. They couldn't find a better coach.

Fly Like a Duck Wrote:Many schools in central Kentucky are just as rural, if not more rural than mountain countie (I say more b/c while they might be closer to bigger towns and metropolitan areas, many times the towns themselves in EKY are much more self serviceable).

In far western and far eastern Kentucky most everybody is playing with the same deck of cards. In central Kentucky you might be in a county as rural as any in EKY, but you’re paired up in the same district and/or region with schools in heavy poplulated areas (Louisville/Lexington/Bowling Green/Elizabethtown just a name a few then you have places like Danville/Boyle County all the way to Glasgow that just flat out have a different make up than surrounding that are having to compete against them).

I wasn't referring to rural. Perry Central has never put a lot into the football program. it's a basketball school
CoachWMills Wrote:He would be a great asst. coach but not ready for the Big Time yet. The Napster is the man for the job. With his Dad at his side, they can turn this thing around quickly!

Nobody can turn things around quickly.

I know you weren’t. All good. I was just saying as to why they’d come. In certain places across the state you actually have a chance; playing with the ‘same’ deck of cards as everyone else (for the most part).

No privates to battle, no big towns/cities, demographics the same, etc.

All of those factors that really matter, but most will never admit.
Apparently they've offered more to Cabel Midland coach, who still told them no. This is from a person within.
This started out so nicely. A retiring legend coach leaves a football program, not at the last moment, but, with time to find a replacement. The staff that is left is competent and the head assistant is a very viable choice for a replacement to keep the program on a track that has been on an upward turn. Feelers are put out to see if there is going to be any interest from any other higher profile coaches and then it turns into a stinking mess. It looked like the administrators were interested in fielding interest from other coaches and trying to make sure they had all the cards on the table before making the best choice and they have buried the vehicle up to the floorboards. I can't blame them for looking around even with Ovie right there under their nose, but, come on!....reel someone in or cut bait. I don't know if I could stand this whole insulting situation if I were Ovie Canady. Just.....wow.

It has to be very hard on him.

Please take a look at the facilities and tell me they've never put a lot into their football program. The last time there was an opening they went out and hired one of the winningest coaches of all-time in Kentucky.

The level of success has not been there - and we can debate why that's not happened until the end of the world - but it is not because the administration isn't trying to build the program. Maybe 10 or 15 years ago, but not now.

I would wager the money offered to the CM coach would rival just about any head coach's salary in EKY.
Word from the barber shop is that our former Coach John D interviewed for the job! Any truth to this?

It's shameful and ridiculous. Welcome to a place where hard work, commitment and loyalty get you no where. Ovie is working with these boys everyday! Everyday!! The boys have voiced their opinion. They want him as their head coach. I think they have spring practice in about a month. If a new person is what administrators want, then they need to get it together and get someone in there. If I had a kid in there, I would want a coach to get to know them before they start hitting the field. This program is about to take a downward spiral. There are some boys who have not been coming to offseason workouts because unless Ovie is hired, they don't plan on playing. I know this for a fact. Their parents have made that clear.
Perry needs to get some hiring done. They need a football coach, soccer coach, softball coach, and i've heard a baseball coach after this season ends.
This has turned into a circus. Tell em where to shove it Ovie.
It's embarassing for a guy like Ovie, if I am him at this point I am pulling my kids out of the school and coaching somewhere else. If they don't care no more about him than what has been shown already then how are they going to treat him as a coach?
Does anyone know if it's true that his two sons will as independents at the state power lifting meet this upcoming weekend? Rumor in Harlan County has it that this is true.
I don't have anything to contribute at this point so I guess i'll just sum up how I feel in emojis.

I haven't heard anything about it. But I am so far removed from the every day goings on these days!

IMO Perry’s biggest football issue in the past had nothing to do with facilities or lack of money put into the program. It was always a lack of interest in general from the kids to want to get out and play. I graduated in 08 and our team at one point had only 28 players and from a 5A school that’s terrible lol. Of course back then in perry county everyone’s son was raised Thinking they would be the next micheal Jordan so football wasn’t really a focal point. But in the last couple of years it has rly picked up and you see them with teams with 40 to 50 players so I think they’re moving in the right direction. But with all that being said they really need to get on the ball and get someone in the drivers seat with spring ball just around the corner. They can’t expect to hire someone last minute and expect them to come in and implement a whole new offense in 2 months time.
I was at Catz lifting last night and I heard a lot of ex PCC and Hazard guys saying that Perry was interested in hiring Kyle Maggard. Just what I heard.

Who is he? Is he a Hazard or PCC assistant? Former head coach?
Hes the heavyweight wrestling champ of the wrestling company in this area. He played football for PCC. Not sure what levels he has coached.

Well.......maybe he can teach them the leg drop or how to take a turnbuckle to the face. All those things come in handy on a Friday night.

Anyone who has ever played in the mountains knows this is actually true. The People's Elbow and the Stone Cold Stunner are usually reserved for the 4th quarter but I have seen them before halftime.
