The KHSAA is useless. Look how long they let Rose Hill and Cordia off the hook

Who are the 2 from the "county" that transferred to Corbin? How many players did Corbin start, 7:pondering:?

Sanders went to South Middle I thought. Who was from WC?

If I'm wrong I apologize but didn't the Taylors start at oak grove which is a county school? I know they played a lot of baseball in the county when they were young. I know they didn't see the floor last night but 2 kids on the bench I know came from the county. Those 2 would have made Whitley a better team this year because height and inside play would have helped them much more imo.

That would effect nothing. If that bill did pass I think Corbin would write their own charter. If they didn't whose administration do you think would be promoted? The ones who had the state come in in the last decade, or the administration that leads a top 5 school in the state?

Hence the phrase, ânot that I think it has a prayer.â
However, the thought of Corbin Ind being merged into Whitley and Knox is funny

Oak grove is a lapped district. Those kids don't "belong" to either side. A lot of kids go to oak grove with the intent to go to Corbin middle school the entire time. oak grove is 4 miles from Corbin middle school, while it's 12 miles from Whitley county middle school. Also, people move and the fact of the matter is that Corbin is the most attractive school system to an incoming family. Higher test scores, higher college and career placement, and a broader range of extracurricular activities than any of the other schools around. Corbin has something for the whole family. Whether its baseball, basketball, football, softball, volleyball, soccer, track, cross country, drama, fishing, academic team, odyssey of the mind, bowling, band, choir, jrotc, cheerleading, dance, or cooking. Corbin not only offers it, but competes at a high level in it. Now the truth is that they have down years in certain areas. It's hard to beat schools with twice your enrollment that only try to really compete in a couple areas year in and year out. Corbin does a better job than anyone else I've seen though.

Corbin is the best school in the area. Academically and athletically. Thats why kids move into that area. Corbin is a good town to live in as well. I sure would of liked to of moved there. Think their average ACT score is in the upper 20s. Givem a little credit. People want whats best for their kids.

And Andrew Taylor is the best player in the Region. Should of been player of the year.

Whitley County also has every single thing that you just named. Boston and Pleasant View Elementary schools are closer to Jellico Middle School than they are to Whitley County Middle School, but that doesn't mean that they are Jellico Elementary schools.

I'm not saying they are dougie, but if a kid or their parents have the plans all along of coming to Corbin in middle school and high school then does that student qualify as a Whitley kid? I would think that you all would like that they atleast go to oak grove for elementary school. You all have 6 years to try to convert them.
Also, there is a difference in offering things and competing at a high level in them.

The bill, as I understand it, eliminates independent districts and merges them into larger county systems to form 55 school systems in Kentucky.
How are you proposing Corbin circumvents this or finds a loophole?
HB 242 was introduced to the educational committee in the house back in January. I canât see 242 getting much traction. If anything, I see Frankfort gearing up for a fight with that terrible school system in Louisville, JCPS

I don't have a dog in the fight, but there is no such thing as a "lapped district." Oak Grove is in the Whitley district so the Whitley board pays for the teachers and the school and the students are Whitley students.

The county would compete at a high level in every sport if the kids would stay. That's why we get so mad. Whitley has great teachers, a great campus and team facilities. If the kids would stay they would like the high school.

The Taylor's lived in the Corbin School District. They may have gone to Oak Grove, not sure, a lot of kids who live in that area of the Corbin District do go to Oak Grove and then on to Corbin Middle School after that, although many remain in the Whitley Co. School District.
The Corbin and Whitley Co. Districts work really well together for the sake of the children, which probably explains why both Districts are thriving right now.

If Oak Grove, Whitley Middle, South Laurel Middle etc has a talented football or hoops player, it becomes a de facto feeder school for Corbin.
Itâs no secret, Corbinâs done this for years. Hence, the dislike

The area he is talking about is actually in the Corbin School District, but was at one time in the Whitley School District. Both Districts send school buses into these areas and parents can choose where to send their kids. The property taxes from this area, which are by the way higher than the property taxes in the Whitley District, go to the Corbin School District. Oak Grove School(Whitley District) sits just outside the Corbin District. I have attached a map.
