Perry Central coaching search
Perry pays well compared to most districts. Teachers, coaches, substitutes... You name it and they make more in Perry, especially compared to surrounding districts.
Explorer Wrote:Take it for what it's worth. I went from Kanawha county to central KY and took a pay cut. Should be noted that WV does not require teachers to get a masters degree.

Perry Year 1. $191.
Cabell Year 1. $175.

So comparing those two. Perry pays more.

Thanks for the rocket science analysis.

Well, you're the one who was wrong so, you're welcome. I said Perry paid more and you flatly stated that WV paid more. Sometimes it feels like i'm in a knife fight with an AK-47.
You stated salaries and retirement in WV are worse than in KY. Having taught in both states and three different districts, I'm telling you I was paid more in WV than in both districts in KY to teach only.

Now you can pick X county from one state and compare it to X county in the other state and make the general assumption that one entire state pays more than the other.

That's bad rocket science for either of us to do. So both of us should just hush it.

But as a teacher in that district in WV, teachers were treated much much better than ones I've been in for KY and for teachers/coaches I know in other districts. And I thought you couldn't bring a knife to a gun fight and win.
Well crap. How dare I use the school system a guy is coming from and the school system a guy is going to and post actual facts and an actual newspaper article agreeing with me. How dare I use real numbers and such! The gall.

By the way i'm the one with the AK. Facts > Opinion
I'm a non school public employee in WV. Yea there is issues with our raises and they don't need to change PEIA, but our retirement is in much better shape than Kentucky's.

Let me ask you. Would you like a $9,500 raise on your pay next year? Thats what Salmons will get. Thats not counting if they pay him a larger coaching stipend than Cabell did.
I have no problem with him leaving Midland at all. I hope it works out for him.
I saw a couple of the football players at the district basketball game last night and they are still pulling for Coach Canady. They are working with him every evening after school and have some weight meets scheduled for the next few Saturdays. The ones I spoke to have been in the program since Larkey and Canady started and they really have a lot of respect for Ovie. He's brought them a long way.

it's good to know they already have an assistant coach that they like.

PCC might ought to stick with the girl they brought to the dance before going outside of the system since things were on an upswing. They have nice facilities there at PCC and obviously, according to a few people I respect on here, have a good choice to try out in Ovie. I'm know Salmons is a good coach, but, he's obviously one that likes to jump around between schools a bit and he is liable to pull a Haddix on them and move to greener pastures when the time presents itself. I bet Ovie would stay quite a while and if he had success as a head coach, then it would be for the best all the way around for the school. The only place I could see him leaving for would probably be Harlan County if the job came open. Either choice they make, the administration sounds dedicated to trying to get the football program to continue on the positive trend. I'm sure Salmon's isn't going to move for a chicken-feed-pay job.
Ovie is the man for the job. Very simply put. Shouldnt even be another candidate.
Ovie would stay here for several years. After the way he and Larkey were treated in HC, I doubt he would go back there and coach.
His youngest son will be in 7th grade, so he would stay at least 6 years.
Eddie told the players they would have a coach by last Friday. I wonder if it takes site base this long to hire a teacher. No, it doesn't. They hire new fresh out of college teachers all the time, no experience, no resume. Ovie has a lot of coaching experience and has been working on the upcoming season since November. He's got players scheduled for 3 weight meets and has worked endlessly with them since last season ended.
He's the best fit for this team.
Still no news on a coach?
No, the word is that the coach from Cabell Midland can't make his mind up. I don't see why they would wait this long for him to decide. I saw on facebook that Ovie took a bunch to Raceland today for a weight meet and they apparently looked good. They had a young man who won the total pounds lifted award. Ovie has this bunch strong and in shape.
Using this for more money??

That's what it sounds like to me. Sounds like a case of duditis that's been prevelant in Bell County over the years to see how bad they want to keep ya.
It makes no sense to me to look outside the current coaching staff. Ovie was a big part of the turnaround in this program. He wants this job and loves this program. His son is a sophomore and he wants to stay here and coach him and his other son who will be in middle school. This family doesn't want to leave, they all like it here. Ovie has the youth program running smoothly and the whole program is going in the right direction, why take a chance on someone we know nothing about.

He has the kids lifting and right now this group of kids is the physically strongest bunch we've ever had and he has everything to do with that. Ovie is the man!
Bigballerbrand Wrote:Bahahhaha. Just what kinda man is Ovie?

A good one. As numerous people in this thread have already stated.
The thing is BigBaller, Ovie is a great coach and a good guy. He wants this job and wouldn't be still trying to decide. If it takes a coach this long to decide, I wouldn't want him. He should have been excited and ready to accept instead of not being able to make up his mind. Offer it to Ovie and see how long it takes him to say yes. He wants to stay here and coach these kids that he's spent so much time with.
Heard Daffy Duck was interviewed.

You think he'll bring the Martian and Bugs as assistants?

I agree. Don’t let someone use you for more money.
Word is former Clay Co coach is wanting this job. Not sure if they would give him a chance.

You mean the one who quit on his team midway through the season a couple years ago?

No, the one before that one.
