WHAT HAPPENED: The Bulldogs erased an 11-point lead in the final 10 minutes of regulation, then seized control of overtime from the outset to hand the Gators a crushing loss late Wednesday night at Exactech Arena/O'Connell. Forward Yante Maten scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, with two 3-point shots in the final 15.8 seconds forcing overtime after two free throws by forward Egor Koulechov had pushed UF to a six-point lead with 24.7 seconds to play. After the first Maten 3, UF guard Jalen Hudson was called for traveling on the inbound and the Dogs, losers of five straight and six of the previous seven, got their second 3-ball from Maten with five seconds to go. Georgia scored the first basket of overtime and never trailed in the extra period, as Florida missed five of six free throws to start the overtime and fall behind. The Gators had a chance to tie the game, but point guard Chris Chiozza's desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer wasn't close. Koulechov and guard KeVaughn Allen lead UF with 19 points, but the Gators shot just 37.9 percent for the game and went over seven minutes without a field goal during one stretch inside the final 10 minutes that allowed for the Dogs to stage their comeback.
WHAT IT MEANS: Coach Mike White hoped the back-to-back wins that preceded this game -- and the new-found energy and defensive commitment that accompanied those victories -- were signs the Gators were showing maturity and commitment. Instead, Florida has now been swept in a regular-season series with Georgia for the first time since 1997. With the loss, the Gators fell back into a tie with Missouri and Alabama for third place in the league standings (a game behind second-place Tennessee and three behind front-running Auburn).
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Since erupting for a season-high 28 points against Arkansas on Jan. 17, Allen had gone 10-for-36 from the 3-point line (27.7 percent) and over the last two games had made just four of his 13 shots and averaged 5.5 points. He came off the bench again Wednesday, but provided that 19-point spark by hitting six of his 14 shots and three of five from the 3-point line. Allen was good, but like the rest of his team, he needed to be better.
STAGGERING STATISTIC: Chiozza finished two of 14 for the floor and scored five points in 35 minutes. He also missed two of those big early free throws in overtime. Hudson, the team's leading scorer at 15.6 points per game, failed to score for the first time this year. He finished 0-for-3 from the floor, 0-for-2 from the free-throw line and had two turnovers in 22 minutes. That's five points from the starting backcourt.

Always glad to the Gators take it on the chin. How many have they lost at home? I think Bama beat them by 18 there.
