New Mexico waited a day after National Signing Day to suspend head coach Bob Davie amid investigations into the athletics department.
Davie, who just finished his sixth season as the Lobosâ, is being suspended 30 days without pay. That came amid a trio of investigations into the athletics department surrounding the culture Davie enabled surrounding physical and sexual assault.
New Mexico received the report from the outside investigators 3 weeks ago:
According to the Albuquerque Journal, the firm hired by UNM âcouldnât conclude that football coaches or staff has obstructed with criminal investigations or misconduct cases involving players based on its review of three incidents.â
The Albuquerque Journal reported one of the investigated instances involved Davie holding a team meeting to address a rape allegation against a football player:
That includes the firmâs examination of one case in which a female student had reported to UNM Police that a football player had raped her.
Witnesses told Black that Davie had âheld an all team meeting in which he told the players to âget some dirt on this whore,ââ according to Hogan Marrenâs report. The firm said it was not able to independently confirm Davieâs actual comments, as players and coaches it contacted said they werenât at the meeting or didnât remember Davie using those words or remembered only hearing they needed to protect their teammate and provide information to Davie.
Somehow, Davie still has his job. New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that he planned on expanding the investigation.
In 6 seasons at New Mexico, Davie is 30-45. The Lobos were 3-9 in 2017

The timing of the suspension is kind of deceitful to the recruits considering the school has has this information for weeks. I see no way he keeps his job.

When will these coaches learn? They are putting their jobs at risk protecting players who did not have the sense to not be stupid.

Sounds like the house needs to be cleaned and some people need to go to jail.

"if" the coach said these things he is more stupid than the players. He is supposed to be a role model teaching values.
