2A Classic A Possibility For Next Season
#1
A 2A classic for the state's midsized schools could be a possibility for 2018-2019.

Always wondered why the schools never organzied this since they compain about classing all the time.

The positive I see out of this is that it may FINALLY lead to classifcation. Use the 16th region for example. With this it is split evenly. there are 8 teams out of 16 that are All A participants and now 8 teams that are 2A participant eligible.

5 classes with 50+ teams in each state wide would give many more teams and athletes an opportunity to compete for a trip to the state tournament.

Set up districts, do a home/away, 32 teams make a seeded playoff, 5 rounds. Week long state final four in each class at a designated site (rounds 4 & 5). You'd be bringing 20 teams to the dance instead of 16.

Section 4 has a bunch of teams eligible. Amazing there are only 2 private schools that fit.

Bad idea. The all A is no longer what it was intended either. It was dreamed up for schools like Jackson City, Buckhorn, Riverside, Jenkins, Red Bird, Oneida Etc.

That's a little extreme. Jackson and Riverside were never a factor in the All A and neither were the others except for one or two teams.
I don't think the 2A idea makes a lot of sense though in basketball. As someone said, most of the 2A football schools are already in the All A.

Isn't Knott County Central a 3A football school? They are playing in the All A. I'd like to see the All A be just single A schools.

All the more reason to play classes in Basketball too.

The tournament started as Class A football schools and several small schools that didn't have football, but that was when football was four classes, instead of six.
The tournament would lose too much money if you kicked out that many schools. It may be a little too easy to get in now, but the tournament hasn't changed that much since the early days.

Correct. Those who are upset about 3/4a playing need to remember they pretty much always played.

the all a should be for class a schools. now they take the bottom 120 schools in enrollment and that's what makes up the all a. in the 2a it will be any school with enrollment under 1000. for example in the 14th region knott, leslie, Breathitt, would not be eligible. so they don't need to call it an all a tournament anymore

Enrollment falls where it falls, the numbers don't lie. Just because a school used to be too big doesn't mean it is now. The current football classification were made three years ago, a lot can change in the mountains in three years as far as population goes.
