This makes the district draw interesting. The 1 and 2 seed will be a coin flip between South and Corbin, and now the 3 and 4 seed will be coin flip too. Lol.

Whitley needs to clean house with that coaching staff!!

Already a done deal from what I hear. But the next guy in line is no better. Politics ruins what could be a powerhouse in every sport at Whitley.

I have heard the same but I believe it is coming from that camp. I have also heard interest in a coach outside the system and has a great record. I think this job opens up just like baseball and the Best gets it.

^I hope you are right!! The kids that work so hard deserve the best.

I sure hope so because those kids deserve better. This staff has ran off several great players and the disappointing thing is they donât seem to care.

That's right.

It’s always been my opinion that of all the sports at Whitley, basketball is where politics has gotten in the way of good hires most of the time...As most have said the kids deserve the best...

Yeah Whitley has been a big disappointment. Need a change for sure!! The burg seems to be going in the right direction.

Be keerful what ye say. The sodie pop man is lurking. lol

Letâs hope they hire someone who will do right by the kids. The board needs to let the coaches do their job. If what Iâm hearing is true on who they will hire things wonât get better anytime soon

I just find it hard to say powerhouse, based on what??? I mean they are a big school and have never (excluding girls basketball in the 80's) reached a point to give an indication of powerhouse?

I think the coach from Williamsburg has done a great job. Williamsburg has to be one of the hardest places to coach when you have to share kids as much as you they do at that school?

You guys are funny. Kids deserve the best.... Political hires... maybe they should be consulting you.. Seems like some just have an ax to grind.
I went back on the riherds board and looked at their most recent coaches.... i know a little about most of them. It doesn't look like Overbey was a political hire, he's not from there. I don't know who baker was, but he's now at SW, so somebody else thought enough of him to hire him. Mike Deaton, that's not a political hire. Don't know who Guffy was, but Evans for sure wasn't a politcal hire (was her, but not there).
I do know that their 8th grade team is pretty good, everyone here is tore up because we lost in overtime to them in the 13th Region 8th champ game. The refs cheated us according to what i'm hearing. When was the last time Whitley County won a middle school region? maybe the talent just hasn't been there.

Overbey may just be the worst coach in the state
01-25-2018, 12:05 AM
Wouldnât call him a political hire. The board canât stay out of it and let him do his job. They need to let the coaches coach
01-25-2018, 12:08 AM
I don't think that is the issue. The biggest problem has to be 12 kids on the roster from freshman, JV and Varsity. Kids are not playing for him.

Donnie hateful Jones will be the next boys coach!

Powerhouse may have been a bit of a stretch, but would definitely be in the mix with Corbin and South every year. If you could get someone outside the Whitley school system and get all the athletes to play, there's no doubt they make it a 3 team district every year.

Napier is doing a good job at Williamsburg

with good coaching and no interference from the administration what else is stopping them from being a powerhouse?

A coach from the outside with full control and no interference is exactly what they need.

Overbey had a great season in 14-15 when Sasko was a senior and then they just collapsed in the first round of district. They havenât been much since

Whitley plays in a very difficult district.
