Mic all the players up and let it melt you brain..... kids say stuff that boils my blood.
Be a lot of red faced parents....
The dismissal idea is a legitimate move but will not get enforced.... lots of talk and some watchful eyes with his 3 game suspension will more than likely be all he gets. But I bet that the games will be closely watched for retaliations and slurs.
IMO.

KYHoopsFan71; it is against BGR rules to refer to a student athlete by name when discussing matters of sensitive issue. I've deleted 3 of your posts for that reason. Please refrain; another post listing the name will serve as reason for suspension.

The administration has every confidence that this will be handled in an appropriate manner."I really appreciate your sensitivity and the wording of this post. Thank you.
I know the last thread was shut down because of talking about a student athlete, so this won't mention a kid, but the program itself.
I just find the official statement by the Corbin PR coordinator pretty pathetic. Since when was racism a" internal basketball issue"? So the entire Corbin administration, school board, principal, AD, and such, are going to leave this up to the basketball staff?
Here's how the statement reads to me. "We'll leave this up to the basketball coach, and when he allows him to play after a few games suspension it isn't our fault because we left it up to him." If that's the case, Corbin Independent is about to get real famous I'm afraid.

No problem. Just think that this conversation should be drilled into the kids, coaches, and administrations at a time like this. I don't feel sorry for the accused, but it makes me sick to my stomach that it happened. It truly blows me away how bad Corbin schools is about to drop the ball on this one. I guarantee you that it ends up on ESPN after the announcement of the punishment. That really pisses me off, because it makes us look bad and acceptable of it as a state, or region of a state.

As I've said before, bury the kid. I really do not care one way or the other.
But the people leading this charge do not have the right to carry that torch. Only the kid who was disrespected and his family have that right.

If he had spoken to this kid in private, then you may have a point. But he didn't. He decided to film and publicize this little rant of his so that the whole world could see it. He should be permently released from the team. But this won't happen. Petrowski will see to it. That man would do almost anything for a win.
This little twerp is an extension of most of Corbin's attitude.
He should not lose his scholarship. If he don't grow up, college athletics will swallow him whole.

The thing is, the video should not have been made. That was a stupid decision. However what was allegedly said during the game is far worse as far as public perception. That being said, I think the video is worse than that because in a rivalry game talking trash is part of it. When you are in a competitive sport, trash talking happens, and the best trash talk is the talk that cuts the deepest. Most understand that's how it works and don't pay attention to the words or take them personally. I'm not in the kids head to know his true feelings on the situation, but I would venture to say it was harmless in intent, but awful in action. The fact remains that he should've used better judgement, not said it, and make better choices in the future.
I know technically he has the right to say what he wants as an American and truthfully nothing can be done about it if he really wanted to push it. That being said, the best thing is that he seems to have accepted and agreed to his suspension, has issued an apology (that could have been worded better), and hopefully everyone can learn from this mistake and move on.

This kid has a history of doing things like this and his school/town also has a lengthy reputation as well. Really sad. Kid is a really good player but continues to verbally abuse his opponents. Sure a lot of kids say things during a game BUT NOT the things this kid has said. Not just to kids of another color. Just ask SL. The more I hear of this situation the more I wonder how this kid hasn't got in trouble before.

If this has been going on for a while then it's obviously a reflection of the head coach and coaching staff if they have done nothing to correct this behavior. The kid is really a good player so I guess winning is more important to the coaches than teaching character!!

I have purposefully not posted on this topic bacause I know that almost anything I say will be construed as taking up for the kid. Anyhow, here is my take.
First, What this kid did wasn't just stupid, it was idiotic. Shows low moral and ethical standards that he most likely learned from home. That being said, what is corbin high school supposed to do? He didn't break any laws and he didn't attack anyone personally. Could what he said be easily construed as racism? Absolutely, that's how I took it. Can an argument be made that the conversation before the video was took could've included "we got the monkey off our back"? I think that anyone who is objective can admit that it could.
Second. The town of Corbin has made some great strides to move past that ugly history and reputation they have. That being said, there are still stupid people every where in every community. There are racist idiots in every town of Kentucky from pikeville to paducah. I'm not saying this kid is one, but I can guarantee you that there are racists in Corbin just like there are racists in barbourville and London and Williamsburg and plenty of other towns. Stereotyping people just because of the town they live in is just as stupid as stereotyping someone because of the color of their skin.
Third. I know that Knox central is all up in arms over this, but I didn't see the same NEED for justice when one of their football players stood on Corbin's basketball court last season and cursed our student section for five minutes after the game. Calling them "mother f---ing crackers" (I don't know if I should edit cracker or not, if I should could a mod edit it for me?) and "inbred rednecks."
That same player threw a punch at a Corbin player on the Knox central sideline during a football game and sat out for one play total. Everyone loves to see justice carried out when it's someone else on whom the axe will fall.
Fourth. Taking away finishing second all time in scoring is a pretty legit punishment in my book, it doesn't matter to a lot most people because very few people have had the opportunity to achieve it. I'm not saying by it should be the only punishment, but I think it's a pretty good start.
Fifth. The apology is exactly what I'd expect. Anyone who knows that family knows that they have always made excuses and played the victim. They believe that all their problems are the result of others treating them unfairly. I don't see why anyone would expect anything different now.
Sixth. There are a lot of people out there who love to jump onto a cause when they see or hear one. I'm not going to say that this has been blown out of proportion, because it's a huge deal and cannot be excepted. I'm am going to say that I find it funny how many adults were attacking a kid for things he said trying to look cool in front of his friends. If we were honest, I think most people have said things they would be ashamed to get out to the public when they were seniors in high school. I'm not saying they have to be racist things, but they are probably similar in stupidity and ignorance. I'm just glad that social media wasn't a thing when I was in high school. I make enough of an idiot of myself on it as a grown man.
Seventh. As far as retaliation goes, Knox central will get their chance come region tournament time. Send Corbin home early and you'll get the last laugh. I doubt that will happen, but it's right there for Knox to do.
Eighth. My biggest hope is that the young man realizes that this world is a lot bigger than his bubble, and mommy and daddy won't be able to coddle him forever. This type of thing may humble him greatly and change the course of his life for the better.

^^Exactly. I cannot argue with Single Wing's post. It made a lot of sense to me but for the fact that this has happened more than once from this kid.
He made fun of the deaf kid and did a little dance after defeating KC in the regionals last year, singing that they were going home and Corbin wasn't. etc.

I don't know what was said on the court, all I have as far as that goes is heresay, and those things tend to get really over exaggerated. I do know that there is a ton of trash talk by almost every kid in every sport now days. Especially non contact sports. In football you can "lower the boom" on someone which can shut them up pretty quick. If it gets to a point where racial slurs are used by anyone that's not okay and I don't understand how the officials don't take control of it at that point.

I will go ahead and say that if this kid in the video was a kid that was averaging 2 points a game and playing very few mins, he would of been dismissed yesterday morning. Win at all cost is alive and well.

I would think a dismissal was the only recourse. That is just my opinion. What has he learned? Most do not agree and that is ok. But 77 I do agree with what you said.
That would be very convienent for Knox and most likely the biggest reason this has become what it has...

What's fair for the goose is fair for the gander. There has been poor sportsmanship from both sides.

I've been reading through the comments on this thread and everyone keeps referring to this young man as a kid. Even though he is in high school, at 19, he is no longer a kid. He is old enough to know right from wrong. Also, if he was provoked in any way, that does not justify his actions. I understand that this video was on his personal page outside of school functions, but as a member of team, he represents them on and off the court. A three game suspension is not a punishment that fits crime in my opinion. As far as this keeping him from a PERSONAL goal of being the second leading scorer, I don't feel sorry for him. As much as I would have liked to see him achieve it, it doesn't matter how hard you work, actions have consequences.

Thatâs why I always enjoy your perspective Dougie, as much as you love to troll Corbin you always end up showing common sense in the end, and I couldnât
agree more with you.

If it was a kid averaging two points a game no one wouldâve batted an eye. Letâs be real.
