Who are the most underrated head coaches in Kentucky and why? Iâll start Mark Brown, Etown you donât hear his name much about but he is one of the best in the state. Wins everywhere he goes but doesnât have the the multiple state titles to be a household name.

Johnny Poynter. Rebuilt several programs and his teams will play you tough and physical.

Chris Larkey North Laurel, our school has won 2 of the 3 district titles in school history with him as the coach in the last three years

I had never heard of him until semistate and his team was very well coached and played/hit hard. Great coach!

I am not sure he is underrated I think he gets his proper props for what he has accomplished. But there is no set criteria so Iâll go with you on it.

What about Coach Perry at Garrard? Is he underrated?

I'd say that's a really good call. He always gets the most out of his kids. They are well coached and don't make many mistakes. Very tough. Hard nosed kids.
All signs of being well coached.
Nice guy too.

Very good coach. Does as much with less as anybody around, at non traditional power schools as well.

I think Steve Stonebraker is one. The guy has built programs from nothing to competing at a high level three different times. I'm honestly amazed he hasn't got an offer by one of the "big" schools yet.

Coach Perry is one of the better men I know. Hard nosed. Tough. Does things the right way. Great leader of young men.

Retired, but I always thought Donnie Daniels did a great job.

He done a very good job year in and year out with the talent he was given.

Honestly.....I believe Doug Preston @Franklin Simpson has been underrated for YEARS. Everywhere he's been he's built quality programs that have went deep into the playoffs. Glad to see him get a championship ring. I can think of a few programs that missed the boat when he was available.

That has proven to be a lot of stupid decisions made by people at Bullitt East. I doubt he would say I told you so, but I can do it for him.

Not sure he is underrated he has gotten a lot of credit for his solid work at Casey Co.

Is GRC's HC Oliver Lucas underrated?

I think Coach Estes at Cambellsville is underrated. He has done a decent job to include winning a region title this year.
Coach Parkey Rockcastle is underrated. He maintains a solid program almost year and year out.

Is Coach Simpson at Henry Clay underrated? I can see arguments for and against.

Could not agree more.
He should have took the FC job. Created South Floyd and Allen Central.... Not saying Hager did a bad job but, Outside of Philip Haywood, I'm not sure I know a better coach from floyd. Imagine if he had Prestonsburg.

Estes is the biggest idiot in the world.

I think Simpson has gotten his due. Dominated that district and Lexington for a long time. Will probably dominate again if Scott and Douglass drop.
I never hear anyone talk about Jon Clark, though. That is why I mentioned him.

I would add Preston King from Louisville Western. He isn't talked about much, but he had that team playing at a high level this season.
01-18-2018, 10:50 PM
Bart Elam at Pineville has to very high on this list.

That may be true but he has had decent success and doesnt often get his due but ur right attitude and how you carry yourself and should be a consideration.

I can get with you on Simpson. I feel Clark is widely celebrated for the solid work he has done at MS but I see your point. I can get with that.

What about LJ Harbison at Metcalf. He is still somewhat new but I think he has a bright future.
