smoke1015 Wrote:The deal is, if Danville didn't lose a lot of players to Boyle county, Mayfield would have about 8 less titles than they have. A lot of kids that do very well for Boyle, live right in the heart of Danville (the city). Not just those kids out in the country part of Boyle get them championships. And it's totally fair to say that. Boyle is the best school for academics in that area. A few student athletes that parents are really worried about education send their kids to Boyle, plus to play other sports and compete at a high level, track, soccer, even basketball. I can think of 5 kids you throw off of Boyle that live in Danville and Danville probably wins the game yesterday by as many as they want. They'd be able to beat the 5A champ most likely.
Thats like saying if Mayfield got some of Graves players then I don't think Danville would stand a chance....and they wouldn't

YOU DO have Graves players!!!!!!

I don't think Mayfield fully got over the CAL win emotionally. All season long it was all about correcting that CAL mistake from the season before. I remember when CAL was struggling with their qb situation and I told the boys I thought we would end up playing DeSales. They were so disappointed at the prospect of such things. They wanted CAL so bad. CAL was the goal, the hump they had to get over, the mountain they had to climb. They invested so much in that game. Once they got that win and achieved that goal, it was hard to get them refocused and dialed back in. I just didn't see the fire and passion last week that I had seen the week before. No haters, I'm not trying to make excuses or take anything away from Danville. They were the best team in 2a this season and they rightfully earned their trophy. I'm just adding my perspective that the way the team processed that semifinals game contributed to them not looking themselves in the championship.

Thats going to be a LONG road trip for whoever comes out of this region for the semi's.i cant see where Glasgow would be put in the west, that doesn't make sense, worse than having beechwood in the west in 1A,however If this is true i hope Beechwood moves up to 2A to beef up the west.
Glasgow is district 3, they have always been in the west, at least as far back as I remember. This year was the first they where put in east due to cross bracketing. Next year back in west. The reason Mayfield, or before them Murray, and Caldwell, didn't play Glasgow in semis is Desales/CAL was knocking them out in 2nd, or 3rd round. Now next year Glasgow back in west with no Louisville private in their way. Glasgow will be in the semis IMO.

So Mayfield only has to get by OCath and Glasgow to make state? I should probably book my room now.

Congratulations to Danville on the state championship. The admirals played great .
Proud of the Cardinals. You had a great year when many around the state didn't think you would make it to state.

I said month ago Danville one of the top 10 teams in the state and I stick by that.

The bad is being runner up this year but all you can do is tip your hat to the Ads. The writing was on the wall on the Ads first possession of the 3rd Q when their offense came out an immediately moved the ball after some adjustments. By the time we had adjusted it was to late, especially after punting to Van Cleave, who I don't think we meant to punt to. The good news is that outside of replacing LB Hurt and 4 linemen this team returns almost everyone else. Of course we lose Harrision and Fox but we have a lot of guys ready to step in those positions. I like the Cards chances next year. The Louisville schools also look loaded but I think next year we have to be one of the favorites.

When you come to state you can't commit penalties that kill drives and you have to catch balls that hit you in the hands.
This was the first year in a while, where we showed up and looked like we had a little stage fright. We are young though.
Now it's time to make a new o line, get stronger and keep focused.

Not out of my mind.
They will dominate Danville. Sorry the state title was won vs. CAL.
The game plan they had on Milton Wright was outstanding. They will make Danville play with 1 hand tied behind their back. It's truly amazing what they can do at Mayfield. Joe Morris and the staff at Mayfield are the best. If not the state, definetley in 2-A.
Jackson Purchase:
Fast kids tend to slowdown when they get smoked. I bet he hadn't faced anyone quite like Mayfield.
If the ends can do there jobs, expect some bone cracking, smash mouth impacts. He's all heart and fight. If Vancleave doesn't love the game 100% it will be exposed.
Mysonis55:
After viewing the film in detail, I can see simple adjustments that will take away most of the Ads O.
CS17:
I have watched the film on Danville... and (yes this is a shot) they don't seem that impressive... it could be the level of competition they were playing, but the the opposing teams just had terrible fundamentals and didn't play the game well (filling holes, following guards, shedding blocks) I think they come into this game and meet a well coached and fundamentally sound team that rarely makes a mistake and plays fast and physical... and are in for the fight of their lives.
Sorry, but I had to try and point out that the bias can lead us to make some predictions that really aren't good.
I congratulate Mayfield on being one of the best programs in KY and for the majority of their fan base that has always been classy. Even some I quoted have handled the loss with dignity and I salute you guys.

mysonis55 so what were those simple adjustments that you came up with while going over the film so carefully? And why didn't you tell the coaches about them?

Congratulations Admirals on a outstanding year,Mayfield what a year Im proud of you, fans letâs always remember how we say things here it is the young men that actually play the game.
I know we tend to be proud of our teams I was rooting for the cards I was very hesitant to talk trash but the kids read these forums and they are the ones that count they are the ones whose feelings are hurt the most. Danville won we didnât no excuse letâs move on and stop the coulda woulda shoulda . Again, congrats to the Ads and Cards there are hundreds of other schools that would love to be state runner ups.
Happy Holidays

Well, obviously not my job. They were there but, our bunch seemed to be unable to get out their own way. It's pretty simple, the Ads, as I said earlier, played better than expected. Also the Cards killed themselves. Take the first drive, you have 2 penalties and then a dropped pass, that was gonna be a first down. If you play like that at state, you get beat. I think our boys showed some youth. That over pursuit on the reverse, I'm sure our coaching staff had warned them not to do. Sometimes you just run into a good team and don't win. Nothing to be ashamed of. We weren't even supposed to be there. The Ads should be proud.

By the way, I think they did take away most of their offense. But, they definitely took away ours.

Danville did not play better than expected at all. I thought they were off a bit, didn't use VanCleave quiet enough on O. And then their QB getting hurt for a series or two wasn't something you expect either. I predicted this game, perfectly. I said 35-21, a week before the game. Although I thought the Ads would be up 28-0, something like that, and then play more of a prevent defense in the 2nd half and slowly allow Mayfield to make it look close. IN reality, the game was somewhat competitive. I didn't expect it to be, having watched both teams. I know for a fact Danville didn't play it's best game. Maybe Mayfield didn't either, but that still makes the game end up the way it should've. Danville was better all year, was better in this game, and are the champ. Head to head, Danville is dominant over Mayfield. And now are just 1 title shy of catching them for 2nd place in the state. Boyle county does still hold an advantage over Danville head to head, but they are always a bigger class school, and Boyle steals many Danville athletes, due mainly to the reputation of Boyle academically, and plus other sports besides football.

Historically Danville has the series lead on Boyle.

I think if Mysonis55 and Jackson Purchase did a better job posting on the message board Mayfield could have won. Those guys were really off their game this week and it showed at state. Just not the typical posting performance we are accustomed to seeing from them this year. They WILL be back though. And they will watch MORE film next year and have even better post game adjustments than EVER.

Boils down to not enough senior leadership and nerves. They let the bogus TD taking the score to 21-7 break them down. It could have been a different game otherwise. Danville was better on this day. Had more athletes ready to compete. I'm not a Mayfield supporter really. My kid goes to McCracken. Just giving opinions like everyone else.

Not really IMO. There was time for Danville to run one more play near the goal line. (BTW it was 20-8 not 21-7)
At halftime Mayfield had 9 rushing yards.
They added a whopping 32 rushing yards in the 3rd quarter. 73 passing yards in the 3rd Quarter for the Cardinals.
Meanwhile Danville ran a punt back and controlled the ball almost as well as the Cardinals and increased their lead.
In the first quarter Mayfield had 7 yards of offense. When Thorton went down for Danville the tone changed. The Cards got the safety and hit the long bomb at the start of the 2nd quarter. 8-7.
Then Thorton returns. First play is a Van Cleave reverse to the house and Mayfield was instantly deflated. Ads settled in and executed pretty well the rest of the way.

Bottom line, VanCleave's big plays and a Danville D-line that dominated the LOS won the game. Danville's DLine took away Guthrie's QB runs which had been a go to package when Mayfield needed a spark on offense all year. Danville's Qb also made some amazing plays with his feet and really gutted it out after the shoulder injury. Danville coaching staff did a great job slowly working him back in and the Danville D held down the fort big time until #15 got back into the groove throwing the ball. It's a shame a few MF big mouths reflect poorly on the majority good ones.

I know VanCleave gets all of the publicity, rightfully so, but I have been very impressed with Warren every game I've seen him play. I feel like with his size, strength, and hands he could make a serious name for himself at Western or Eastern.

Where exactly was this MF big mouths that were reflecting poorly. I know that I predicted we would win. No one saw them starting out like they did there though. I mean, how many first drives of a ball game, any ball game, do you see the Cards, get a holding penalty, followed by 2 false starts and then have a wr get a ball thrown right into his hands for a first down and then drop the ball to stall the drive with a 3 and out? They couldn't get out of the way of themselves and Danville was a really good team, that was not about to drop their guard and let Mayfield back into the game. I did see where someone that was not a Mayfield fan, posted that there would be a running clock. I think most of our fans corrected him on that. I mean seriously (loud mouths). This is a forum in which people discuss their opinions. If someone has an opinion that one team is better than the other, why are they loud mouths?
