Unfortunately there just isn't enough teams to do that.
In Tennessee they have so many schools they can match it up a little better, although they still don't have enough for the classes they have and a lot of football fans in TN, especially the big privates think the publics whine and get what they want so they don't have to play them.
ekualum and mysonis55 may be able to explain this a little better but ill try....
TN football has 6 classes just like Kentucky. In those 6 classes are all public schools/non privates, and all of the privates who are small enough with the 1.5 multiplier to fit in those classes (unless they play D2 which ill get too). So, for example, Knoxville Catholic is a 5A school and in 5A with all the publics because even with their male enrollment, plus the 1.5 multiplier, they still don't have the numbers to put them out of the 6 classes. There are several privates in one of the 6 classes TN has just like KY. The only difference is the multiplier to level the playing field.
Tennessees regular 6 classes consist of teams like this...
1A- Oakdale, South Fulton, Jellico etc.
2A- Union City (who Mayfield just beat) Trinity Christian, Oneida, etc.
3A- Alcoa (who Corbin just beat) Pearl Cohn, Gatinburg, etc.
4A- Anderson County, Morristown East, etc.
5A- Sevier County, Lenoir City, Knox Cath, etc.
6A- Maryville, Blackman (remember the Bowling Green games) etc.
Now, TN is different because they also have what is called Division 2. This consist of all the big time privates TN has.
They have D2 1A....D2 2A....and D2 3A.
These are all big privates. Instead of having it all in one big private class, the complaining of some teams forced them to break it down even further separating division 2 into these three classes.
D2 1A only has 16 teams. It is the small private class. (teams like Friendship Christian, etc.)
D2 2A only has 17 teams. It is the medium private class. (Teams like Knoxville Webb, CPA, etc.)
D2 3A only has 11 teams. Its the Monster private class. (Teams like MBA, Ensworth, etc.) Both of these teams are teams Trinity and Bowling Green have played and beaten BTW....
These are all big time private schools that the publics forced out and then when the privates got together, they couldn't even agree to a fair level playing field so they broke it down into 3 classes. Trinity and St X are the only two schools in this state that would fit into that D2 category I believe.
So in total, there are 9 TN state champions. :yikes:
I know this is confusing as hell, but TN high school football is pretty interesting if you know how things work.
Heres a link of the current standing and it may help anyone understand it better when they see the actual breakdown of all teams in TN....

Less than 15 privates play football in Kentucky. Hard to put them all in one class when comparing Brossert's numbers to X or Trinity.

EVERY public school in the state accepts kids that live outside of their district if they pay tuition. As far as the corbin whitley thing goes. The reciprocal agreement is only in affect for the designated lapped districts. Kids who live in those districts can go to either school. The same is true for Knox county.I do know laurel co does not take tuition or will they let a kid go for free so no a kid outside corbin cant play here. we turned one away last year that tried to come. Now is that souths fault probably so. we have so many rules that hold us back from moving forward.

For many schools, 'Independent' means 'to avoid consolidation'.

That may be the case now, but it hasn't always been.

mysonis55 Wrote:I really don't think there is an option to put privates in their own group. There isn't enough of them. The 1.5 multiplier works though. I really think having them makes us better though. Just look at #2 2a of Ky thrashing what is currently #2 2a of TN. It makes us better. Just level the field. You take the 2a state champs over the past 5-6 years. Privates, mostly from Lou area where they recruit like crazy.
If you have any evidence of recruiting that has taken place by the Louisville 2A Privates, then by all means turn us into the KHSAA.

Iam4thecats Wrote:You are wrong. Several of us have looked into it. So we don't come on here and make proclamations and then cover up saying "I haven't looked into it". We are trying to tell you and you wont listen. A Corbin and Knox student can go to South Laurel. If South doesn't want to charge them for being out of district that is their choice. Public schools are public schools. Its not very hard at all. The Kentucky department of education gives each school SEEK money for each student that attends school in their district. If South Laurel accepts a child from Knox KDE doesn't send SEEK money for that student. If South wants to educate that child for free they can or they can choose to charge tuition to the parents to offset the loss of SEEK money.
This couldn't be more wrong. Go to North Laurel, South, Laurel, or any school I can think of around this area and tell them you have a kid that lives a county or two away and you want to enroll them, and let me know what they tell you. I can save you the trouble, and tell you that they will tell you absolutely not. There's a starter on two Corbin varsity teams that tried to do it as legit as possible, but not change address last year, and was denied.
I'm thinking different independent schools operate differently than others, for there to be such a confusion on why independents have a big advantage over public schools. Corbin was used as a example of having a huge advantage because they have kids playing sports that should be going to Lynn Camp, Knox, Whitley, North, South, ect. If you have a legit move from South to North, you have to set out a full calendar year with no exceptions. If a kid comes from any other school district and tries to go to North, they have to have a change of address and still be approved by the KHSAA, or they are not allowed to play at all.

If you want your school to admit anyone, petition the school board for open enrollment rules. Who says public schools can't have open houses to show off their programs? Happens across northern Kentucky every year
