Mayfields 1st 3 playoff games last year was Hancock county, butler county, and Owensboro Catholic. If you pair mayfield with any other district besides district 2 the closest opponent would be in Louisville area, so when mayfield doesn't pair up with district 2 they will be playing teams that are farther like green county, glasgow, desales, Cal in the 1st 3 rounds there will never be a year when it gives a far west team closer games in the 1st 3 rounds, the only round it could happen would be semis if they played o cath instead of a Louisville team, but that would mean they had to travel further for 3 rounds just to get a closer opponent for 1 round. Not a good trade off at all out west as far as travel. If you get a 1 seed in your district not as big a deal, but any team like say Murray that has been The number 2 team in the district lately will be losing money on travel. The positive is not having to see the same teams every year in the early rounds, and new places to visit.
It's not a perfect distance scenario, and from everything I looked at with the districts, it seems that the far west teams (pretty much always District 1) have an unavoidable drive ahead of them.
But, in the case of Mayfield, the drive from some of the district 3 and 4 schools is pretty similar.
I think another issue with all of it, is that you might give some teams a better fighting chance to win a playoff game.
Like with Mayfield. Usually, year in and year out, they're going to beat the cross district #2. That's fine for them. But, it gets a little old for the perennial 2 spot in 2nd. But, suddenly, they don't have to run into the buzz saw. If I'm in 2A district 2, and I just found out I might not have to play Mayfield in the 2nd round and might get to substitute Glasgow, Monroe, Green, Metcalfe for them? I'm in 3A district 5? And I don't have to play Belfry in round 2? I'm beyond excited if I'm one of those teams. Like, go home and celebrate like it's Christmas excited.
As much as we all want to talk about anyone can win on any given Friday night, we all know that Mayfield is Mayfield. Belfry is Belfry. Bowling Green in Bowling Green. They are who they are for a reason. Teams aren't them, for a reason. I think it does add a more competitive dynamic to certain districts. And I think that's great.

What this really boils down to is getting second tier teams a region championship. For example, Belfry and Corbin have played the last two seasons for semi state. Barring something unforeseen, they would have for the next two seasons as well. This way there is a chance that Belfry and Corbin play for a region title instead, and some team from another district that can't get out of the third round can get slaughtered in semi's. To win it all you have to beat good teams, end of story.

One of them is they voted to cross bracket football playoffs in 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A just as in 6A.
1A will remain the same.
I do not like that move.
Keep it as an east vs. west final IMO.
The cross bracketing, to my knowledge of the situation, will not change east vs. west. It will stay within the regions. Example: 3A district 5 currently plays district 6 (region 3). Now D5 will rotate and play D7 (region 4) one season, D8 one season (region 4), then back to D6.

It's for sure one neck of a time to do this. I think this year we would all not mind seeing a Belfry/Corbin championship, but wildcat nation is right the way they do it you just swap playing the district's from the other region on your side of the bracket. Not sure what the pairings are this year, but there is a 50/50 shot we see that Belfry/Corbin game a round earlier, if we don't this year we will next year. Then some other teams fans can brag that their team made it to the semis, and the Belfry/Corbin game loser didn't even though it was a tight game. Then we will get to see an awesome running clock semifinal game. It all started in 6a because people got tired of their team getting beat down by T,X,H,M in the first round.

This past year in 5a Julian took Cov Cath Highlands and put them in the west instead of the east. South Oldhams district went to the east in the swap.

McCreary County is due South of Fayette County and is on the Tennessee border. Since the majority of Kentucky's southern border is flat, I called it a corner.

Technically, the eastern most high school in the state is Phelps High School which is about 18 miles SE of Belfry.

A Belfry vs. Corbin Title Game would be great! But the dynamic of East vs. West works too.

I think it also had to do with X, Trinity, and Male all beating each other out so early in the playoffs. I do think it will work out better for 6a though. It gets old seeing a running clock game each season in the 6a title game.

West - Fulton County High School - 304 miles.
East - Belfry High School - 163 miles.
North - Highlands High School - 88.6 miles.
South - McCreary Central - 108 miles.
I don't expect some of these schools to make it to the State Finals, but these are schools from the four corners of our Commonwealth.

From Trigg County to Bell County.... that is a flat line. Not the landscape, but the county boundary lines against Tennessee.

I knew this move was a matter of when rather then if. What cracks me up is all the people, especially a few Bowling Green posters on here who were convinced that it would be in Bowling Green till the end of time lol. This just makes so much sense. It is more fare to more people than the Louisville or Bowling Green locations and to me if your going to have it in a big stage then why not have it at the main school of your state, in this case that is the University of Kentucky. Louisville never made any sense and Bowling Green was a little better but this is the best choice.

True but for anybody going from Belfry it's so much closer

It's gonna be empty no matter where it is. I watched Trinity play x one of the first years they had it in bowling green. It looked about half full. Imho half full is no better than a quarter of the way full. I think it'll mean more to the kids to get to play on uk's field. Just my opinion though.
