14th Regional Tournament Breathitt County
#1
I attended every session of the 14th Regional tournament and would like to commend the faculty, staff, and people of Breathitt County for running an excellent Regional Tournament. Thoughts / Comments by others out there.
#2
I thought they ran an excellent tournament, but boy was that crowd and parking lot rough for a man with a toddler.

God bless you. Sorry you are so simple minded. If whatever team you were for would have won I would have been cheering for them in rupp.

I put this thread on there to thank the people of Breathitt for a well run tournament not for negative and crybaby comments for people who never see the good in people! Sad! Peace be among us! Brother Cecil!

GOD BLESS these children that got ripped off .Like i said it was set up from the start .Perrys politicians at work.DOESN'T take a simple minded person to see what was happening .My question is when and who will ever have enough BACKBONE to put a stop to all of this BULL CRAP ? Shame on everyone behind these COWARDLY ACTIONS . IT WOULD TAKE A BUNCH OF LOW LIFE'S TO DO CHILDREN THIS WAY. I speak the truth .Delete me if you want .Every time anyone trys to speak the truth it gets Closed or Deleted .The truth

I've said "this is why we can't have nice things" too many times this week.

Thanks for trying, Brother Cecil.
We can't win for losing sometimes.

I'm not a fan of Perry County or how they formed their team, but at no point in this tournament did I think they got any help from the refs if that is what you're trying to say. I thought the refs let the kids on the floor decide the game which is how it should be.

Perry's bigs got by with murder! Refs kept them in the games! Truth

If it ain't one thing it's something else.

Im not a fan of Perry County at all. But I really didn't see this during the game. I thought every time Knott County drove to the basket in the second half. They called a foul. Combs and Caudill shot several free throws. They just missed to many. I know for a fact with 2 mins left to go in the game and perry holding the ball. The foul count was 10-4 in Knott favor.
BB was telling his kids they had 2 fouls to give before Perry would have been in the bonus and they were suppose to take a foul when perry begin to drive.
So I don't know how they got away with murder. Perry attacked the rim just as much as knott did. And foul count was still 10 - 4 with 2 mins left in game.

I have a question, if perry county politicians are responsible for them winning this tournament then why haven't they won all of them. The same people are in power. Knott has won the most in recent memory but nobody said anything about how they formed their team. And if anybody thinks that perry got preferential treatment from the refs then they weren't watching the same games that I was. In both overtimes and some of the fourth quarter Knott only had 3 field goals the rest of there points from the free throw line

I also am not a fan PCC this year bc of the way the team was put together (signing "free agents" etc.), but I also do not think that PCC was given any favors by the refs, I actually thought that the refs did a very good job with the whole tournament. The teams that won, deserved their wins. Knott had a ton of opportunities to score from the free throw line late into the overtimes, but just couldnt connect. I hope PCC does well in the State Tournament next week and I hope too that recruiting stops (but I know that won't happen). Breathitt County did an excellent job hosting the tournament, I enjoyed the PA announcer and the excitement of the whole tournament. It was a great High School Basketball event !

I thought it was about as evenly called tournament has I have seen. Let teams play on both ends. Lots of close exciting games not sure you could ask for much more. I watched on tv but from people I know that attended said breathitt ran the tourney excellent.

I do know this for a fact, there isnt one single school in the 14th Region that would of told Damon Tobler, Prince, and Iggy that they wouldnt take them at their school. Damon has been here for 4 years and I am glad because he is one of the best kids I have been around. Prince and Iggy have been at JBS for 2 or 3 years before coming and yes their coach Elisha Justice left JBS. (Cant blame them for transferring) Probably done the same thing with my kid if he had the potential of those two kids. JBS program went a little South. Yeah some of our homegrown boys may of not got a chance to play this year and I understand some get upset but at whatever school these three kids would of went to, somones kid would of had to sit. They are three very talented players. Had to go to school somewhere and I am glad they came to PCC. I do think some of the kids that dont get to play are pretty dang good players to at PCC but theres only so much time in a ball game and Shannon gets paid to win. Thats his job. And if anyone should of got Coach of the Year, it was him. Yeah he had talent but you still got to run your program and do many other things. Congratulations Shannon. Id congratulate Big Al, BB, or whoever had these 3 kids. Winning isnt easy aint any level.

I'm just curious.. Are any of these kids had any College offers. What College will they be playing for. Looking forward to watching them .
#17
Surely they would have committed by now.
#18
Not everyone commits to play college ball before the season is over.
Some guys like to get it out of the way and some guys like to do it early.
They will likely pick up some offers after state tournament (depending on how they do).

I agree with Brother Cecil, if you want to cry and complain, start another thread, or take it somewhere else. As far as the tournament, I think everyone involved, did an excellent job. Parking has always been a problem, but when the Coliseum is packed, there is no better environment around, in my opinion.
#20
Was treated well by the people of Breathitt. Parking is tough. Tournament was a success.
Light on Big A__ fan over lower goal was out, but replaced the next round.

Not true believe me it happened!!!

I agree, I think Breathitt was an excellent host school. The Coliseum is one of the nicest gyms in the area, I think thats hard to argue against. I was a fan of how they had local basketball 'legends' deliver the game balls, that was unique.
Only thing to complain about was that it was a little hot in there. The new fans helped but it was still hot, thats usually the case anywhere though. Also would have liked to see some better student sections. I didn't think they were much this year, and I think they can make the environment 10 times better.

Those hard wooden seats do hurt after a few minutes. But love the atmosphere and the acoustics.

Where is 14th region at next year? At knott county?

I think someone said Perry Central

It is at PCC next year. I really enjoyed the tournament at Breathitt even though the gym is not quite big enough. However, I don't mind to be a little crowded to enjoy an atmosphere that was very good. Seems like every time I'm involved in a semi or final game there it's multiple overtimes. I've given the 15th region refs a hard time all year and now I will have to apologize. I watched every game and I thought they done a wonderful job. So congrats to Breathitt for hosting a super tourney and to the 15th region refs for a very solid job of officiating. Thank you!

I think for the most part Student Sections are a dying thing as sad as it is to say. Non sports playing kids take very little pride in their school pride/tradition. Due to social media most kids in high school now think of their selves as being celebrities with all their followers on social media. I hate that things have come to that but I think it's like that everywhere not just in the mountains.
#28
Atmosphere was great. Great games. Hats off to breathit county and staff
#29
Both Hazard and PCC have a lot of students at their games, but I have to say the dawgs really get into the spirit of it
#30
I may just be getting old but it seems as if the student sections are a lot more confrontational with the officials and other players. I think there should be a class on game etiquette or something like that. But that goes for players also as I have seen some terrible on field/court behavior lately.
