The record was set by Tim Branham @ 1880 points. The record has stood since 1981 (36 years). Mason needs 22 points to break the record and become the boys all time leading scorer.
JC is in action tonight at Williamson, WV as they play Mingo Co. Central as part of the Hatfield/McCoy Shhotout. Mason is averaging nearly 30 points a game and may break the record tonight. If not, JC will be back in action at home on Monday night when they take on Lawrence Co.
Just wanted to put this out there and let everyone know that a young man is about to make history at JCHS. Best of luck to Mason as he chases this record.

One of the worst shooters in the state. He is 32% at threes and around 42% on 2's. At the high school level that's bad. I've seen him play and he can drive very well and has great moves but just wants to shoot threes! Very bad coaching

This will be/ is a great accomplishment for this young man. Please don't turn this into a bashing thread. Everyone has an opinion about shot selection and so forth. This thread should be about congratulations and positives. If you want to talk about those other things please start a new thread.

Congrats to Blair. I'm just surprised at the school scoring record. I would have thought for sure they had a few over 2000

Congratulations to him; records are meant to be broken. He is an excellent player. Best of luck.

Big congratulations to Mason for breaking the JCHS record. This is a great accomplishment for him. It may be another 30 years before we see this record broken at JC

I do believe and someone can correct me if I'm wrong but both Howard Wallen and Mike Castle had over 2,000 points in their careers however they played the first 2 years of high school at Meade and Oil Springs and then their final 2 seasons at JC after consolidation.

That's a question for JC's official Stat man.... I'm sure he will let me know the answer.

Here are the Facts..... from JC's official stat guru.
Howard Wallen scored 1,528 points in two years for JC (graduated 1970).
Mike Castle scored 1,334 points in two years for JC (agraduated in 1970).
Wallen played first two years for Meade and Castle played first two years for Oil Springs. Both scored just over 2,000 points for their career but you have to do it in a JC uniform for it too count and their points did not come over with them.
The former record holder, Timbo Branham, scored 440 points his freshman year at Allen Central but those did not come over either.
These three players were recognized for the point totals from JC and the schools they transferred from/consolidated from.
Mason Blair has scored ALL of his points playing at Johnson Central.
Not a single point on Mason's record was scored playing for another team.
So the Official All-Time scoring record of Johnson Central belongs to Mr. Mason Blair.

I'm okay with that method of career point tracking but that's not the same method honored by KHSAA -- career points are career points. I understand the difference totally and am very proud of Mason for this accomplishment... he is certainly a hard working young man and loves the game. You may not like his playing style but that does not take away from this accomplishment. Congrats Mas.
