Mayfield @ Owensboro Catholic 11-18-16
#1
What's your thoughts on this one.
#2
This is probably the game of the week out of the whole state, both teams are rolling, Mayfield definitely has the edge but I gotta go with Ocath on this one, Undefeated in Regional Championships at Steele Stadium. 34-28 Ocath

Should be a pretty good game early on and plus this game is at Owensboro. With that said mayfield rolls in the second half. :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:

Mayfield 49
Owensboro Catholic 21...and I am being nice on 21pts.

To be the man you gotta beat the man.

OB Cath will have a very hard time sustaining drives against Mayfields D, so, imo, they'll have to score on big plays or hope for a turnover or 2 to give them a short field.. Even then, I think Mayfield will be able to mix the pass and run and get enough big plays to come away with a win. Because they're playing well on both sides of the ball and Coach Joe has proven for several years now that his teams typically peak at this time, I don't see them making too many mistakes. .Mayfield 35 O'Boro Catholic 14

Here is some questions for those that are on the fence to think about.

First, is Owensboro Cath better this year than last without their all everything qb and the barn burner at wr and kickoff specialist?

I think not.

Second, is Mayfield as good or better than last year?

I think so. The O line is bigger, stronger and more experienced. The qb and RB are on record breaking paces. The wr core is almost impossible to cover or catch. The defense is mostly just a year older, stronger and more experienced.

Mayfield won it last year by more than 1 touchdown. So, what would one take from that?
#8
My pick is, since the Cards are on the road, MHS 42 OCHS 14.
#9
Mayfield 42-26
#10
Mayfield 42-21

Where is the OC faithful? They were a bit more in your face last year at this time.
#12
Owensboro Catholic is better then they were last year! They are more balanced then I've seen them in a long time. Coach Edge finally got the kids healthy the last two weeks.

Does Mayfield think the game will be easy?

Owensboro Catholic is more balanced on offense then they have been in a while. Last year, I would consider them an "Air Raid" team. This year they are more balanced. Von Williams is a Sophmore and has nearly 1800 yards and 19 TD's. QB has over 2200 yards passing.

The thing I'm very impressed with this year is their D. Catholic has not been healthy on this side of the ball all year until the last 4 games. I have been very impressed with their improvement.

Mayfield was thought to run all over Catholic's D last year. They certainly miss the Boarman kid #34, but the Sophmore, Josh Sloan #47 has replaced him nicely.

Does Mayfield think this is going to be an easy game? I hope so. I really hope they overlook Catholic.

As a recent graduate, I can tell you that Mayfield never overlooks a team...(some of the fans might). With that being said, the team prepares for each game like its the State Championship... the practices from July-November are the exact same intensity as the one in December. Now, we were very confident in our abilities and coaching staff, so we never had doubts going into games. I do think the OCath could cause a few problems early, but I don't expect them to hang wit Mayfield for more than the first half. The Mayfield Train keeps on rolling.

Mayfield 48
OCath 14 (Late TD on the JV)

OC will have to try to be balanced because the run will not work. They will have less than 100 yards rushing on the varsity. I'm sure the run will prove to you to be much better this year. Our line is a year older, bigger, stronger and more experienced. CS is correct about them not overlooking anyone. They will simply look at what they are up against and how to handle it. They will study their assignments and perform them to near perfection. I have a story to prove the fact they don't overlook teams. I fully expected us to beat Caldwell with a running clock. I was telling someone that and my boy overheard it. As everyone knows he is a player. He told me real quickly that Caldwell is really good. He said they would play us tough.

Im waiting on the coaches to put the film on Hudl so i can see what OCath brings to the table. Ill give another prediction after i watch it
#17
Yeah, for some reason they haven't gotten that out as quickly this year as in past. Heck, CS, I think they have only watched film at Coach Dew's for McCracken, Corbin and Caldwell this year. That tells me coach feels pretty good about where they are.

Mayfield is getting ready to go on their Catholic beating streak. This week OCath then Desales.

Well i remember going over for dinner every week, but only watching it for the bigger games. If he feels like practice was polished up well on Thursday, he doesnt do the extra film session.

This will not set well with the Pope, could heads roll at the archdiocese???

Interesting stats for you. If you average all OC's opponents average scores per game, it comes out that their opponents average score against their schedules would be 29-31. OC has averaged a score of 44-19 against their schedule. So, that means on average OC scores 13 more points against their opponents than they normally allow. Their opponents average 10 less points per game than they normally do.

Now Mayfield's opponents average score would be 28-28. Mayfield averaged a score of 49-14 against that schedule. That means they score on average 21 points more than normal. That also means on average they allow 14 less points per game than normal.

So if Mayfield scores 21 more points than OC normally allows, that would be 40. If Mayfield allows 14 less points than OC normally scores, that would be 30.

If OC scores 13 more points than Mayfield normally allows, that's 27 points. If they allow Mayfield to score 10 less points than they normally score, that would be 39.

In either case, that would result in OC losing by more than 1 score.
#27
Mayfield's opponents combined record is 67-70.

OC's opponents combined record is 61-75.
#28
The average lit rating for OC's opponents is 62.41. They went 11-1 against that schedule.

The average lit rating for Mayfield's opponents is 84.75. They went 12-0 against that schedule.
#29
Correction. OC went 9-0 against the teams with the listed lit rating. The out of state teams don't have a lit score. They went 1-1 against those teams. They lost to an 8-5 team and beat a 5-7 team.

I love this time of year.
