Paducah Tilghman @ Mayfield (9/2)
#1
This rivalry is always a big deal in far western Kentucky. First played in 1911, they will meet Friday for the 103rd time. Paducah Tilghman leads the series 47-45-10 but lately it’s been all Mayfield with 10 straight victories. The Cardinals appear to be favored again this year, especially playing at their beloved War Memorial stadium. A young Tilghman team, with a new coaching staff, looks to make a big statement after dropping the first two games to 6A teams. Records: Mayfield (2-0) Paducah Tilghman (0-2)

Last 10 meetings
2015 M 37-14
2014 M 47-21
2013 M 28-21
2012 M 42-21
2011 M 24-6
2010 M 23-20 OT
2009 M 21-12
2008 M 21-12
2007 M 16-6
2006 M 14-7 OT

Last win by Tilghman
2005 PT 18-15

How do you see this year's game playing out?

Mayfield big. :worthy:

Mayfield 64
Paducah Tilghman 20
#3
Cards by 36
#4
better check those facts again Mayfield tied the series and now leads it.
#5
Yeah, he must be relying on the PT version of the series numbers. PT claims 2 more wins than they actually have. I don't know how they came about them but they do.
#6
I think this will be Mayfield 56 PT 7. The late score by PT will come on jv defense. I checked weather and for now, it's not showing any rain Friday.

Sadly noone will ever know the exact record in this series.

Tilghman claims a lead of 47-45-10
Mayfield claims a lead of 47-46-9
Lanny lancaster has in his records what seems to be a compromise and has it tied 46-46-10

The dispute is the 1911 & 1912 games

1911 Tilghman claims 0-0 tie, Mayfield claims 22-0 victory
1912 Tilghman claims 26-0 victory, Mayfield claims 22-0 victory

Its anybodys guess at which is the exact record

Didn't remember the 06-10 season games were all close. The last 5 years has not been competitive, even with Tilghman having some good Division 1 talent, Mayfield has just had a better TEAM.

How down is Central Hardin? Or did PTHS dress kids that didn't play against McCracken. Still think it's a wood shed trip for Paducah.
#10
Central Hardin is ranked ahead of McCracken. Makes you wonder.
#11
Expectations for C.Hardin are very high this year, but, I don't think they've quite put things together yet. If they were to play McCracken, I'd give the nod to the Stangs, but, by seasons end, that could change. PT obviously played much better this week than last, but, I still don't think they can keep pace with the Cardinal offense and the D for the Cards is too talented to give up too many big plays.. Mayfield 34 Tilghman 14

They won't score twice on us.

Mayfield big.....
#14
Mayfield by as many as they want

This is not really a rivalry anymore. It's more a narrative about the slow steady decline of one program and the refusal of a former band director-principal to do anything about it. Just from afar, it sure looked like this inexperienced team could have used the extra days in spring practice to get better, but no,word is the track coach objected to football players joining spring practice. Hint: Other schools that actually win football games find a way to make this work.

Same track coach that somehow, by some freak accident got back of football coaching staff. Should've never happened.

Those records came from a newspaper journalist. Who knows, maybe he is wrong. I didn't feel like taking the time to cross check all the discrepancies and I sure as heck wasn't there in 1911 or 1912. So, I'll go with Mr. Lancaster's version. 46-46-10

The crotch kick in the JV game Monday night turns the heat up on this one. I'm hoping for a scoreboard payback.

After Central Hardin ran for nearly 500 yds last year, I was shocked how PT hung with them (on the road) this time. PT scored on two breakaway plays last year to keep the score somewhat respectable at 48-25. That game felt more like a 5TD differential. Most expected similar results especially after PT's showing in the opener.

So, either:
1.) PT has made some unbelievable adjustments and strides in the matter of one week
2.) Central Hardin isn't quite the team everyone was expecting
3.) PT just laid an egg in the first game (hey, McCracken did it last year)

Maybe some combination of the three.

The reasons Mayfield should dominate:
1.) Starts with the defense, stymie the run and get good pressure on the QB
2.) Control the LOS
3.) Balanced offense, keeps PT defense from aggressively loading up (Coach Wyatt leans toward aggressive style of play calling)

McCracken did these things and Mayfield should have success too.

Tilghman could keep things interesting if:
1.) They keep the pressure off their QB, allowing the playbook to be wide open
2.) They create turnovers, probably need to be +3 at least
3.) They get some big plays on special teams, a PT staple in the past
4.) Mayfield's new WR corps doesn't play well forcing the Cards to abandon the pass. Shortens the game and puts PT in aggressive run attack.

You are correct except for the 2013 game. That one was competitive all game and could have gone either way.
I think in the past few years the importance of this game has been allowed to wane on PTs side but hopefully the new coach will be able to kick some life back into it.

I agree with every word of this post.
You have smacked the nail on the head Tica. If I could I would buy you a beer.
It is really sad to see what has become of a proud 100 plus year old program in just a few years of mismanagement and outright neglect.
The whole spring football tussle which resulted in Rogers leaving was just another case in point. The only upside to it all is- the individual who was at the center of that dispute now finds himself on the football staff, experiencing first hand the results of a lack of pre season prep.
Nice bit of karma there.

If you don't have interest in either team what kind of payback are you seeking?

I hope they put a running clock on the ball busters.

Tica's observations are often painfully true. However, its a new day with a new regime. And I finally believe this time we have a guy in there that knows how to make PT tick, as he was the most dynamic player to ever don the uniform.
Many faithful fans are just tired of all the negativity and ready to move forward.
I am not real worried about the results so far, as we are a very young team and we will improve.

As far as this game goes, PT has a mountain to climb and would have to play perfect to keep it close with this veteran Mayfield squad. so the outcome could vary greatly in regards to our output. We made good strides last week, and tonight will be a true building block in playing a quality team.
