Clay jumped to a 6-0 lead in third, looked like they were gonna cruise to their first-ever regional crown. But North's bats woke up in a huge way, putting 11 on the board in the next four innings, the highlight a three-run line drive bomb by freshman Rebecca Riley that gave North an 8-6 lead. Senior Makayla Vires came on in relief in the third and shut Clay down the rest of the way. The Lady Jags will now face Estill Co. in the state next Thursday in Owensboro.
This continues a streak that began when fast-pitch became a sport in 95. In the 22 seasons since then, North has won 16 regional titles, South 6 and no one else has one. The first half of those or so were in the 12th region.

Good to see Clay County break up the Laurel County monopoly. They will push North next year.
