The powers that be don't want a good program. What about hiring a guy but not his wife? So they have to travel back and fourth. However, I guess they justify it by saying local people need a job also.
Horrible committee in my honest opinion. They should have worked out all the details. Which brings the question. Who all was on the hiring committee?
In all honesty, really, what else could be expected? There wasn't even an interview process for this job the last time it was filled. It would be interesting to hear who all was on that committee after the fact because obviously they are clueless. Most of them are probably the first ones to stab Justin in the back after things have not went as well for him.

Any news on spring practice?

Not a Word, everyone's keeping it hush, hush right now. I've heard we have several new coaches and new players out though.

That is great about having new players out!! who are the new coaches?

I haven't heard a thing, Clay County is about as interested in football as they are watching paint dry at this point. As a fan it's just frustrating.

how are the tigers looking during spring ball? who are the new coaches?

Just looking at the schedule and what we have returning, I can't see more than 1-2 wins next season. We were 2-9 and lost most of our production.
05-06-2016, 05:05 PM
What is the schedule next year?

Rowan County, Harlan County, Corbin, E. Jessamine, W. Jessamine, Wayne County, Knox Central, Rockcastle County, Russell County, and South Laurel.
Maybe West and possibly Russell as wins.

Surely we can go at least 500? When are things going to be turned around? To hell with excuses. GET RESULTS!!
Since 2011, Clay County has won 10 ballgames. Am I missing something? What is it? Grade school football trash? The prior coaching staff? Are the male kids in clay county soft?
Get kids out, Tackle, Run the Ball, Play Special Teams and have a good weight room program.

i forgot ONE, We need a coach to live in the County. Either the board missed up hiring Combs or not hiring both his wife and him. Only in CC that BS like this happens!!!

I agree. It's hard to give a motivational, pride, rah-rah, we are CC! speech or to create that atmosphere and belief when the kids can see right through it because you live over an hour away. I haven't seen Combs around town at all other than the football games which makes it hard for the guy to get any community support.
Grade School Football - Not very good.
Prior Coaching Staff's - Was better at the top few spots than what we have now.
Soft? - Yes, chucking and ducking on offense creates a chucking and ducking mindset.
The hiring committee was absolutely clueless when putting this thing together. It's not Comb's fault he was into a situation he wasn't ready for. He has coached maybe 3-4 years total at this point in his career, he obviously isn't truly invested in CC for the long haul or he would be here, that drive everyday is terrible with a young family. I could see him going back closer to home and re-emerging as a solid coach down the road. And I will go on the record and say I TOLD YOU SO! from day one what was going to happen. No one could every bring back a valid argument against anything I said. I like the changes you mention, and I don't think it's out of Combs reach of doing it, but he has to take control and get to CC. He's a good guy and will do well somewhere eventually.

Hello don't you all have a guy that grad from Clay that is one of the most prolific passers in the history of KY? And I believe that you won a lot of games with him. I am just saying

You gentlemen are absolutely correct. Struggling small school programs feared us far and wide in those days. Evarts, Knott, Morgan, you name em, we beat em. That's part of recent struggles is we thought we were better than we are and decided to up our schedule after those days. We need to get back to stomping Lynn Camp, Harlan, etc to build interest.

Was there a spring football game?
05-15-2016, 02:05 PM
with a head coach living hour and a half away. Who knows?
05-16-2016, 03:50 PM
Combs is still not living in Manchester?

Maybe they will make a homerun hire with the football program like they did with the basketball program recently...

Does that mean Glenn is double in? Can he do both?

If Clay can stay healthy I think they will make big leap this year. They have some real nice athletes. Their QB if he is coming back is the real deal.
05-18-2016, 09:58 PM
With the kids that we lost to graduation and the lopsided scores from last year, who do you have us beating this year? I still see maybe 2 wins, and that might be generous.

Their starting qb was out most of the season. If he returns and stays healthy he is a difference maker. If was healthy last year they would have been a lot more competitive.

I'm not so sure on that, one of the games Will didn't play was one of our wins. The others were rock, Knox, and Wayne and I see no change in the competitiveness of those games one way or the other. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player but those games are too much to overcome.

WHO CARES WHERE THE GUY LIVES!!!!! If he shows up to work everyday!!!!! If he doesn't show up to work then I am sure he will be fired just like anyone else would be. I am from the mountains and I am so sick of everytime a mountain school has a coaching opening they say WE NEED TO HIRE A HOMETOWN BOY. Hire the best guy for the job!!!!! Joe Bob might not be that guy and just because he won the 6th grade championship doesn't make him a high school football coach. I really think you give the guy a chance and if he wants to drive an hour to work let him.

They weren't driving from there everyday though. Those guys moved to the communities they coached and were actually part of the community.

My point is you don't have to hire a guy from your town. And I am sure the guy is seen around, who cares were he lays his head at night.

I've never seen him around anywhere to be honest, not even at other school sporting events. He's been around some elementary football games but stands up top on the hill. When the hire was made we all heard how elementary/middle school is going to change etc. I haven't seen it. I may be totally wrong on this but this is just my perception.

Well what's the word at practice? Is Sexton out there slinging and winging? How are we looking?
