Amos McCreary Named Bell County Head Football Coach
#91
Larkey at HC only won 2 times to the best of my failing memory. He won 5 or 6 times against Bell at Rock. 4 of those coming in 2 seasons. Regular season and Playoff's. Excellent games that are still painful for me. Really wanted to see my boy get past the Rock. They were excellent those years. Lost to Boyle in State Finals. Killed Highlands in the Semi's.

Don't think they were in same district before. In the 80's and 90's Bell was a larger school than Corbin. In recent years that has reversed with Corbin now being slightly larger than Bell.

It depends on whether we're talking about just the new school or Bell County going back to the old days.

KHSAA district football started in 1959. I think Bell and Corbin were in the same district for many years in the old days when there was only A and AA, except for the Louisville schools with 3A.

Cullivan was 3-2 against the new school and something like 6-2 against the new and old.

Well , should kids come with cleats on Monday, or are we going to cancel?

I think he won 8 times against Bell at Rockcastle.

Week 1 gone for spring and we have had a coach. Thanks Gambrel, Lefevers and Brock, and now McCreary. Time to practice.
#96
Like I said before, Don't panick. Spring practice will be May 2-6 and May 9-13. I asked a few of players and parents from past 5 years and they all say we had spring practice 1 time and that was 5 years ago. We should be able to make up for some lost time with 2 full weeks of practice. Let's hope anyway!! GO BOBCATS!!
#97
Really, the rule states 3 consecutive weeks to get 2 in. I guess we got permission from KHSAA to change those dates? We are on probation, you do know that right? Again, what we did in past means nothing, we have had 1 coaching change in 3o years. We have to learn a new system. That means we are way behind. You do not seem to understand that. Panic will come when we are 5-5, this is concern, please try not to mistake the two.
#98
I can see our agreement to them, our coaches don't want to lose their sick days , so we need to change our dates. Our AD is clueless, if this is what it looks like. Take the days and let's go. You better move past concern with these guys in charge.

Spring practice is vastly over rated. Typically a great way to get players hurt early.

This is a ridiculous statement. The time you get to prepare starting in the summer until your first game is already too short of a time period. Anytime you can get to strap up and get 10 or so practices is a huge advantage.

That parent obviously don't have a good memory??/
So, I guess we changed dates back to today. Why do we even have this guy in the AD position? Whylie, stop selling cars and come back up here. Lefevers, just PM us and we will help you out. Gambrel and Lefevers, blind leading the blind.
Anyone with any insight, what are we thinking?

We weren't and still aren't.

"Strapping up" is precisely the problem. If spring practice was wholly devoted to physical training, drills, teaching offense and defense, increasing agility and full pads drills where proper hitting technique and other full speed instruction were applied - it would be a worthwhile endeavor.

Instead, Coach Imabadass lines everybody up day one and has them beat the dust out of each other until someone gets injured. At least that is how it was for me in HS and college. KC's coach has been smart with Spring ball but I think he is the exception.

"Spring Ball" occurs 4 months before game 1. Putting kids at high risk that far out is just stupid. If it was used correctly - it could be beneficial. But all too often it is an ego trip that just adds to the concussion argument while running a few kids off.

We don't have to worry, we can't get our coach to do anything.

Well i don't know where you played high school or college at but, Spring ball is very important both high school and college. you do need to be smart there is no reason to go full pads everyday at any level. For example position battles are won and lost during spring ball a lot of times. Yes there are some that spill over into camp but in general a staff knows who the 1's are heading into the summer. In high school its a great way to install systems and get extra reps for every kid you have out. So I'm not arguing your point you are correct spring ball is like anything else if you have an idiot running the show then it can be harmful. Bottom line is anything cane abused and done the wrong way but to say its not a great thing or a waste of time is false, its absolutely Imperative.

Spring ball is a good way for reps but that is about it a lot of our really good kids play baseball it doesn't hurt them because they don't play spring ball
Spring is to make your team better. If you have athletes playing other sports and you can work #2 or #3 ten practices , your team is better. Spring is to make sure install base and they know it. Spring is for fundamentals. Forever, people complained about not having spring practice and now, most say useless. Spring is a great tool if you use it, and those that do are way ahead when fall comes.
Heard some rumors stirring today when i was in Pineville that there may be some whispers going on that the the ole ball coach situation may not be 100% anymore??? Any truth to that or just rumors?
With this administration.....really? That surprises you? He may have the last laugh. He is retired and is not here. If they mess with him, what keeps him from saying at the last minute, forget it. This administration needs to figure out they do not control everything all the time. Of course they are all short lived in their positions, I can promise you that.
Amos is the coach but still not here.... What would happen if at the last minute he says nevermind. Bell wouldn't have a football team it took over a 100 days to find a guy that's not here yet another 100 days season would be mid way.... Hope the rumors are wrong for the boys on the hill.
That is why this administration better , for once, do what they said they would do.
Haven't heard if you guys got Spring Ball going? What is the latest?
Still in neutral. They will not be in pads bc they have not done the 5 days in helmets and the way it was explained to me by someone in the system the window closes May 6th? Not sure if that is a fact but they seemed pretty sure. Coach has still not done anything with the team.

Anyone heard anything on the staff? Things seem quiet fuzzy on that front. Lots of rumors but nothing concrete outside of his brother.

Who knows. I don't think he has even addressed the team as a whole since he has been her this week. Sounds like he is running for a political office to me.
They should have been in pads, it is 1 days in helmets, 2 pads, then 1 helmets, 2 pads, something like that? So sounds to me the AD needs a course and the Coach needs a kick in the behind. Your Coach is wasting valuable time, and AD is not helping.

Very true we have people that in charge that have no clue.
Spring Football? Waste of everyone's time here at Bell Co. These kids have been and continue to be cheated, and for some it is their last go around.

It is Friday , so I will thank those that are responsible for this mess.

THANKS!!!! Richard Gambrel, Tom Lefevers and John Brock Jr. and Coach McCreary. You will not be soon forgotten, I will do my part to make sure of it.
