From what I understand hager is a great guy! He treats the players with respect , and actually tries to teach the game! Pretty stand up guy from what I'm being told!!! Hope he helps out the kids !! They need a good mentor to look up to. Someone who gives respect ,then gets it in return!!!

Heard today that more and more young kids (middle school) are transferring out prior to high school, including one today who would have been a very good player at Prestonsburg. This is becoming an epidemic that I don't know if John and James could fix if they wanted to.
Sad, sad times at Pburg...

Unfortunately there will at least 5 of the more talented kids be going elsewhere to high school. Make you have to take a hard look at what's best for your child. They are some really good kids also.

Wonder where all these fine young men will end up.?

A couple at Allen Central and a few at Johnson County. Pretty much a done deal as long as nothing changed

I'm hearing John and James are to blame for the downfall of the program, but the success of other local schools, are starting to take a toll on the Blackcats, as well. Ten or so miles down the road, Johnson Central has become a powerhouse in 4A and with the new alignment, the Golden Eagles will be competing for championships for many years to come. On the other side of Paintsville, Coach Cherico has put Tiger football back on the map, and you can believe he will have the Tigers in Bowling Green before long. Twenty miles east of Prestonsburg, Pikeville is home to the defending 1A state champions. The Panthers resurgence, will continue to be a thorn in the Blackcats side. If I'm not mistaken, Jarrell and another starter on Pikeville's championship team were from Prestonsburg.
Prestonsburg has always had the advantage of being able to attract kids from all parts of Floyd county to play football. Now with the program being in disarray, kids from Betsy Layne, and the Floyd Central area, may be looking to stay home, or play for one of the above mentioned schools, in Johnson County and Pike County. If something doesn't change in the next three to five years, I truly believe Floyd Central will be the premier football program in Floyd County.

So what is the HIgh School and Middle School teams going to look like next year with all these kids leaving after this year?
01-23-2016, 08:27 AM
I hate to say, but there may be a possibility that Prestonsburg misses the playoffs entirely next year.

Might have to change Paintsville Tigers to Paintsville Blackcats

They will not be very good next year, but they won't be so bad they miss the playoffs. They are probably looking at around 5 wins.

How will the middle school team be with the players they have lost or will be transferring?

Prestonsburg bought out the contract with Pikeville for their 2016 Week 0 game is what I was told yesterday. It will not be easy for either of them to find a replacement game this late???
