Republican Debate
#61
I had my doubts about Trump actually missing the debate. I thought some last minute negotiations would be worked out, but it appears CNN will air Trump's counter program tonight. Bill O'Reilly tried everything under the sun to get Trump to be there to no avail. I would have loved to seen O'Reilly when the camera's turned off, i could see he was getting flustered. How does this affect the viewers of the debate for Fox? According to Greta Van Susteren 83% of her viewers won't watch the debate in her poll. I still think this has been one of the craziest things i've seen in politics. LOL

Jerry Falwell wrote this for the Washington Post explaining his decision to endorse Donald Trump. Overall he's saying that he would prefer a strong business leader over somebody who is moral and a strict follower of Christ. He even brings up Jimmy Carter at the end (which I quoted below) but does not mention the great lengths Ronald Reagan went to in order to help Christians who were being demonized at the time.

Key quotes from the article:

"I admit my view of the world is colored by my legal and business experiences at Liberty. I respect the opinions of those who believe that it is now more important to elect a career politician who shares their constitutional views or someone who shares their faith instead of a business professional, but I cannot agree."

"As I said, Jimmy Carter is a great Sunday School teacher but the divorced and remarried Hollywood actor Ronald Reagan saved this nation when it was in nearly the same condition as it is today.

Jesus said 'Judge not, lest ye be judged.' Let’s stop trying to choose the political leaders who we believe are the most godly because, in reality, only God knows people’s hearts. You and I don’t, and we are all sinners."

I posted an article written by Dr. Everett Piper, President of Oklahoma Wesleyan University, in which he explains why he will not be inviting Trump to speak in his college's chapel, as Jerry Falwell, Jr. did.

Off the subject, but you may also enjoy reading the following article:

This is Not a Day Care. It’s a University!, in which Dr. Piper addresses political correctness to his students.

Well, so far Megyn Kelly has not disappointed. She was given the privilege of posing the very first question (to Ted Cruz) of the debate. I think that in voicing his name during that first question, the words 'Donald & Trump' were the 5th and 6th words out of her mouth. So, it didn't take long. And frankly, I thought that Cruz stooped just a bit in his response.

Senator Jeff Sessions is in Trump's corner because he is aware of the massive ranks of enemy infiltrators that get into this country these days with a mere wink and a nod. And let's be honest, if not for the presence of Donald Trump this election cycle, we wouldn't even be talking about this stuff. If what has been reported is even half way true, we have the makings of a destructive 5th column living among us that will make Troy's Trojan Horse look like an ice cream truck. Everybody who has endorsed or who has stepped up to voice their support of Trump is not stupid, biased, or otherwise mentally deficient in some capacity.

All, and I mean all that anybody has in evidence against Trump, is a suspicion that he is not being honest about his transition into conservatism. Literally the more the attacks come in, the more I support the guy. We will see come this Monday night how many Trump supporters are willing to stick out their necks. Trump's presence in this primary has made better men of every candidate on that debate stage tonight. And it has been he who defined the conversation of the whole darn cycle. As an example, how many of the candidates now speak openly of building a wall across the border? And once again we are talking of monitoring the outlaw mosques and sanctuaries of the terrorist. Trump had to know that he'd be slammed mightily for his no-show. We'll see.

I watched Trump's show instead of the debate. Wasn't bad at all.

Well, between the two of us we covered all the bases then. Unfortunately, I watched the debate it's still droning on actually and to be kind, it has been a bit mundane. Jeb Bush still says he's the man, we all just have to get on board is all. :eyeroll: Rubio and Cruz have been anything but shinning or convincing, and I'm not raging on either of them. The immigration thing was rehashed but not effectively or clearly. At any rate, neither of them was able to get any separation. Though I was proud of Rubio for declaring the Lord Jesus his Savior. If I had to pick a winner between the two, I'd would have to give Rubio the nod.

Kasich was Kasich, Ben was Ben and though Rand Paul brought a bunch of college kids with him, he was still pushing softer drug laws, privacy issues and the one thing I agree with him on, a balanced budget. I will say that I'd love to see Chris Christie accept the job of US Attorney General. Other than that, I saw nothing to make me think anything was said tonight to elevate any particular candidate.

Oh and this just in. Charles Krauthammer just declared Jeb tonight's winner, and I used to really respect that guy too.

^^^I liked the fact that Trump had some vets there talking, and just different people in general. It wasn't all about him tonight. I've always liked and respected Krauthammer as well until recently...

Fox News and his decision to duck the debate will be Trump's scapegoats if he loses Iowa tomorrow night. Last night, Trump spent his second night in Iowa since the campaign began. This morning, Trump seems to be lowering expectations by saying that he really does not need to win Iowa because he is running so far ahead in New Hampshire and the rest of the country. It sounds like his internal polls are not looking so good.

If Cruz or Rubio win Iowa, their name recognition and popularity will snowball. If Trump does not win or finish a close second, his poll numbers will begin to erode quickly. It is too late for Trump to begin managing his followers expectations after declaring himself a "Winner" thousands of times over the past few months. If Cruz wins, look for him to artfully weave the word "lost" and "Trump" into his speeches and ads immediately.
