South Laurel 70 Clay County 51
#1
Final. :yikes:
#2
Congrats to Mills, Philpot, and the grey headed ref tonight on the win. That was pitiful.
#3
Lol
#4
And here we go
#5
When Griffith plays up to his potential and some of South's role players hit their shots they're tough to beat. Gotta give them credit. They have just flat whipped Clay twice. Hopefully the tigers get back on track next week.
#6
Andrew Griffith dunk turn this game into a runaway horse race. :worthy:
#7
I got a feeling the wheels are about to run off in Manchester!!!!!!!!
#8
No panic button being pressed in Manchester. All losses to quality opponents. South Laurel is just a terrible matchup for Clay County and probably anyone else in the region even though Harlan County caught them sleeping. Time for Clay County to focus on North Laurel.
#9
Farmer is key. When farmer plays well clay plays well. Farmer didn't get it done 2nd half and south won by 17. 1st half farmer got it rolling and south just won by 2. Clay goes as farmer goes
#10
All ive got to say is Blake Smith is hands down best player in this region, he single handily keep clay in this game offensively and DEFENSIVELY through 3 qtrs will getting killed on every drive attempt. Farmer disappeared in the 2nd half, dont know if it was sickness or being tired, but he was non existent. Congrats to South on thw win.
#11
Kept Clay in it Really. South won 2nd half by 17. Farmer kept them in it the first half. South ran away the 2nd.
#12
Smiths motor is as good as any u will see Most active player n the region

Farmer had 10 first half, smith had 8, farmer had 2pts 2nd half on 1 of 8, smith had 17 pts on 8 of 10. So yeah he kept them in it. He brought them to within 4 pts on a run by hisself.
#14
My point exactly. That's why farmer is key to clay. Smith goes off shoots 80 percent and they get beat 17 in that half
#15
Prayers for Will Sexton
#16
Clay County = Cream Puffs
#17
Any news on Will Sexton someone at the game told me that he may have broken some ribs. Hope this isn't true. Prayers for Will Sexton.
#18
I heard same rib he broke in football. Not sure. He was out a few games before. Was this same issue? Prayers
#19
Can somebody tell me why Will Sexton hasn't started a point guard all year. Confusederiously:

They get beat by 17 in the last 10 min because he had absolutely no help on either end of floor and the refs protect Taylor like he is a 2 day old infant. He fouls 3x last night and old grey head gives it to grubb and griffth instead of him. Refs where terrible last night.
#21
Also heard Sexton was taken to uk, maybe lost for year or at least until region.

Because he isn't a true point guard, and he is currently leading the team in turnovers. Hope he makes a speedy recovery, cause Clay really needs his rebounding and defense.
#23
Clay has to get better on the DEFENSIVE END, Farmer well while miller was in the game but once Davis replaced him, Clay was mismatched all night again.
#24
As a neutral observer on this one, I just thought Clay had too much stacked against them in the second half, with Sexton out and both bigs with three fouls at halftime. So much offensive responsibility falls on Smith and Farmer, Wolfe is a tremendous athlete, but not necessarily a great offensive threat, that it's tough if both of them aren't having good nights, and Farmer had a down second half. I still think the key to the region is if Griffith really gets going for South. He is showing flashes, but if he ever really gets comfortable it may be really tough for the rest of the region because they can be a matchup nightmare.
As for officiating, I usually try to stay away from that, so I'll just say this. On a night when there was basically nothing else of note being played in the region, boys or girls, shouldn't your three top-rated officials have had this game? I don't know who they are, but I think I know who they aren't.
#25
Congrats to Cards. May not be in the cards for Tiggers to win region this year. they got to hope somebody else upsets South.
#26
If anyone knows the 3 that officiated last night, I'm not sure what anyone is complaining about. I thought it was a halfway decent called game for those 3. They let them play all night for sure, but they let them play on both ends. As far as Taylor goes, you can't just drive straight into a wall and piss and moan for a foul every time. Also, Clays bigs have absolutely no chance of guarding him, and could've had a foul called on them every trip down the floor.
#27
Smith had 3 steals last night where he was knocked to the ground on fast breaks with no calls then goes up for a 2 handed slam and south pulls his left arm down making him try it one handed and no calls. Come on, everyone here knows philpot is probably the worst in the region and mills isnt far behind, and whoever grey head was called a worse game than them. Truth is truth. South may have won the game anyway, but when you let them beat up clays best player all night and handicap there bigs it changes the entire game
#28
I hate to see poor clay county getting cheated again.:please:

For every foul you claim was missed against Smith, I can guarantee you that I can show you 2 that is missed for Taylor. No doubt there was some missed calls on both ends, but like I said, for that crew it wasn't as bad as I expected. The sad truth is, that you can't put 3 good officials on the floor at the same time in the 13th region. With the new assigning secretary, I'm afraid it's only going to get a lot worse. Except for Corbin. They are fine. Lol.
