These rankings are based on W/L record at home, on the road, neutral court, out of region, and plyers ability. It gets very interesting it you take away H wins from some of the so called top teams.

More info
Belfry- Great coach and staff and has the best 1-2 guard combo in the region and a very underrated 3 in May, as well as a underrated(and underused sometimes) inside game as well as a bench that goes 3-4 deep.
Pike Central - Best player in the region as well as a good upporting cast. They have what many to be the 2nd best coach in the region also and have played well against the top teams.
South Floyd - Played the 2nd toughest schedule in the 15th and only 6 home games:omg:, 2 very good players and a good coach, need to solve some the head issues many complain about but they will.
Paintsville - Best coach and staff in the region and good, NOT GREAT players,(yet) If BMR gets in the refs ear and game is called tight, they are hard to beat, but not real physical and a lot of their W's came at home and not a great schedule in terms of strength of oppenents
P-Burg - Under-rated coach and a very physical, athletic team. Have a great player in Leslie and they play HARD. Good SOS also.
Johnson C. - Everything is not well in Eagle country, IMHO this team has gotten worse as the season goes on(beat Paintsville at PHS early, got blasted at home by PHS) but they have talent and are deeeeep and good on the road.
Phelps - Not a great SOS but not the worst schedule, these guys play HARD and Gannon is underrated. Coach is solid good road winsand I believe they will be saying only if Hunt was healthy after this season.
Shelby Valley - Things def. aren't well here, worst schedule in the 15th not counting David and Pairist. Road record is ok and beats some good teams but not very good.
East Ridge - Hardest team in the 15th to figure out, bad schedule but beat Belfry and played other top teams tough......I just don't know which one will show up.
Sheldon Clark - IMHO toughest schedule in the 15th and the 3rd best player in May. Physical and defensive minded but they got a hard road to go.
Betsy Layne - Good players but its the same story every year, beat some good team, get beat by bad ones. Avg. SOS not good away from H.
Pikeville - Going out on a limb here and saying they don't make the region. Young and play hard sometimes but they cannot score 50 unless playing David or Piarist
Lawrence C. - All wins at home, then get beat by same teams handily on the road. Good player in Thompson but they are just plain awful away from the Dog Pound
Mag. and AC - just not very good basketball teams.
David and Piarist - Have fun playing and thats what its about.

Dang good post. I may have to take some time off to come home and watch some of the regional tournament. Does anyone have the dates of the 57th district and 15th region games?

"NEXT" Wrote:More infoI'm so glad that everybody is doubting Magoffin Co, they beat Lawrence Co., Sheldon Clark in a row. Also if you look at the 2 Paintsville games they led the whole game until the last few minutes, and it was the same at Johnson Central. If this team could have closed more close games out they would have one of the best records in the region, I don't see how anyone could call them, just not a very good basketball team, in the post they are one of the best teams in the region. Also they work real hard and play with alot of heart.

Magoffin Co.
6 of 9 wins at home, Against - SV(8th), Pikeville(12th), BL(11th), SC(10th) LC(13th), and AC(15th)
2 of 9 wins on the road against- BL(11th), Breathitt Co.(4-22 next to last team in the 14th).
1 of 9 at a Neutral site against - Rockcastle(10-16 middle of pack in the 13th)
1 win against a team with a .500 or better record - Shelby Valley - who has the worst schedule in the 15th - and this was at Mag Co.
And while they play hard and with heart I'm not blasting them in being confident in saying they are not very good.

For the top four teams I still like paintsville, then SF, Belfry, and then Prestonsburg. After that theres not a dimes worth of difference between anybody.

Paintsville is not #1.....
Paintsville -
12 of 19 wins at home - LC(13th), Pikeville(12th), MC(14th), SC(10th), SV(8th), P-Burg(5), and Pike Cent(2). with the other 5 of those coming in the PTHC, so IMHO they have 2 good home wins BUT they have 1 HORRIBLE loss in BL(11th)
5 of 19 wins on the road - Knott Cnet.(12-10 in the mighty 14th) MC(14th), AC(15th), JC(6th), and SC(10th) so 1 good road W
2 of 19 wins at neutral sites - Battery Creek, SC. and Piarist(16th)
Heck I might have them too high at #4

A loss at LC or MC is not so bad considering their record at home vs road records.
A loss anywhere else in the 15th outside the top 8 in my rankings is a bad, sometimes horrible loss.

"Don Coleoni" Wrote:I guess the tournaments will prove me wrong then
I doubt it.
There best hope is to win their district and play a district loser of the 59th.
On a neutral floor they do not beat the winner or runner-up of the 58th or 60th and maybe even the winner of the 59th
02-26-2006, 10:55 PM
It looks like any of the top 8 teams in you ranking have a very good chance at winning the Region providing they make it past the district. I'm not sure about all of the districts but the 57th is wide open this year it will be interesting!
02-27-2006, 12:07 AM
Phelps won't make the region tourney and SC probably will not either out of the top 10 I think it will be an upset if PC or BHS do not win the Title.

I respectfully disagree, and like I said before, if Paintsville isn't the best team in the region, then the tournament will prove me wrong. It's just my opinion I've been wrong before in life.
