Pikeville vs. Beechwood (Class A State Championship)
#1
Is there anything to say? It is the Tigers and Panthers.

Beechwood 13-1, the lone loss coming to CovCath.

Pikeville 12-2, losses to Paintsville and AAA Finalist, Belfry.

Historic rivalry. Beechwood has owned the series since the 1990's started. However, the last meeting was in 2004. Pikeville fans would not want it to be anyone else.

The Party will be on the road in Bowling Green. It's the State Championship. Here. We. Go.

If Pikeville doesn't completely reinvent their kickoffs they have no shot.
Put another way, if Pikeville's strategy is to use the spuib-kick against Beechwood, they have no shot.
Put yet another way, if Pikeville gives Beechwood great field position all night on their kickoffs, they have no shot.

I'll think of some more ways to say it before the weekend is over...

If Pikeville is kicking off so much doesn't that mean they are scoring a lot of points? That's better that not scoring a lot of points.
Pikeville kicks off 4 times but Beechwood kicks off 6. Beechwood wins 35-21.

If you are kicking off a lot you might as well be good at it. By your logic it's okay to miss all your extra points as it means you are scoring a lot.

Will put my thoughts on the game up later. But Russellville ran for 299 yards on Beechwood and can't pass. Bodes very well for Pikeville who can do both.

Been watching video of Beechwood's games this season. Think the Panthers are going to match up very well with them. Imo, Pikeville has a real chance to bring home the trophy this time around. Pikeville has got to clean up the fumbles though, and come up with some kind of kind of a kicking game. Every facet of the game has got to count in this one.

I like Pikeville in this one. If they can kickoff and force them into a bad field position. The defense will take care of itself and so will the Pugh.. I mean offense. Goodluck to the Panthers in bowling green. Bring that state championship back to the mountains!!!
#7
I'm going with Pikeville. I said it before the semi's that the winner of The Ville's would win state, and I'm sticking to it. Good Luck Panthers, bring it home.

If we cannot kick we've had the lick!!!:ChairHit::biggrin:

Same here. Been watching video as well. To JP's point about Russellville running for 299, well, I wanted to elaborate. Even with a stacked box, they ran for 299. Beechwood didn't really respect the pass at all and loaded the box. On O, Beechwood QB looks impressive. Doesn't seem to rattle and is elusive. Panthers will have to do really well with maintaining their lanes and gap responsibilities to keep him cornered.

But I like our chances. I'm sure special teams will see some work this week in preparation as well. To quote Coach Cal, "I like my team".

No kidding, this Beechwood team reminds me a lot of the Beechwood teams of the late 80s that Pikeville handled. Really. Not having Stringer really hurts them too.
Last year's Williamsburg team would have loved to have faced this Beechwood team in the finals. Get it done Panthers!

Is he still out? I hadn't heard anything.

Panthers win another cat fight against Tigers 20-14.

I have heard torn MCL. Of course nobody will really know until game time.
From all indications he is done though.
#14
That confirms what I've been reading (torn mcl). Didn't know for sure if there was any credence to it or not, but that is what's rumored.

Pikeville wins 36 to 21

When you think 1A football....What 2 schools come to mind consistently? Pikeville and Beechwood....If a school is to win a state title or even get a chance to play for one. More often than not they've had to go through either one or both of these schools to do it since The Reagan Administration....Its only fitting that the 2 schools that have defined Class A football get to play for the State Title.....I don't think either school would have it any other way.....CANT WAIT!!! HAIL PIKEVILLE!!!
#17
Pugh all day and twice on Thursday, enough said.
Good luck, Panthers.
#18
I've said all year Beechwood takes 1a, but now that I've heard stringer is out I think Pikeville will take it.

Part of me was pulling for Russellville because that's who Pikeville won the first of the 3peat against. Coach Mac was very instrumental in that game for Pikeville. Just would have been a cool storyline. Regardless, it's going to be a great game! Already can't wait for Thursday!!!

Good Luck Pikeville!

I know Pikeville fans may hate me over picking Paintsville all year. But somebody had to beat them and Pikeville did without Kash or with him it doesn't matter to me. Pikeville is the #1 team in 1A in the east. I still believe the west is weak just like I did last year and now since 2A mayfield is gone the east will rise again. Go Pikeville. :Cheerlead

Pikeville 42
Beechwood 24

I said the winner of Pikeville/Paintsville would win the state championship and I'll stay with that prediction.

Pikeville 21
Beechwood 14

Mayfield moving to 2A has really opened this 1A up.
#23
Pikeville 38
Beechwood 24

Wish he wasn't out. Would like to see both squads at full strength. That way, if/when we win, wouldn't have to hear anymore "what if ". Wish the best for the young man.

Just like I said last week about Kash. If that's true and Stringer is out....That's a Beechwood problem, Not a Pikeville problem....

I see what you're saying and that would be cool. But Pikeville has some demons to exorcise....

Pikeville 28-14...

LOL Beechwood fans on that other site are raving about what great defense they are playing. Best all year they say. And they just gave up 300 yards rushing to Russellville.
Now in their infinite wisdom and cockiness they will point out that they play better teams, however Paintsville and Hazard compare more than favorably with Russellville and Holy Cross...

Pikeville has given up around 200 rushing yards TOTAL in its 4 playoff games combined.
I have seen shocked Beechwood faces many times over the years. Hope to see a bunch more Thursday as it never gets old for me.:flame:
