Shelby Valley 12, Prestonsburg 7

Final.
SHELBY VALLEY WILDCATS - 2010 KHSAA STATE CHAMPIONS

According to WYMT, this is the first time in the history of this series that Shelby Valley has won consecutive games.
#3
Yep, this has been a little lopsided over the years.

Wow. Can the Derossett dynasty get derailed? Because this is that kind of result.
#5
Congrats to SV

This is a good win, even if the score is not very pretty. I knew Prestonsburg would play tough on their home field, and the downpour made this an ugly, defensive struggle.

In the end, Valley was able to dent the end zone twice compared to once for the Blackcats. A big win on the road is a good way to start district play.

No shot of that happening, you know that.

Was rather entertaining, tho, watching the younger Dero out on the field during the last timeout. If only those kids knew what a disadvantage they were at, playing for those two......

If you're implying losing to Shelby Valley would be the reason for DeRossett possibly being shown the door, I'm not sure I agree with that. There's no shame in losing to Valley right now.

These last two years would have to be considered the best teams SV has had in the history of the school. Yet even in a rebuilding year P-Burg kept it close and had a shot to win it in the end. That doesn't seem like a terrible result to me.

I know they run Floyd County. But good Lord, how bad will Pburg tolerate their sports getting? Running out Simpkins and all?

Interception late in the 4th quarter just stopped the Blackcats in their tracks! Great game! I really enjoyed watching this on WYMT!!

Congratulations Shelby Valley!!

i dont think he's implying anything ill towards Valley, at all.

I would venture to guess that he's implying that only scoring 7 points must be a mis-print, with all those wonderful football minds that are Prestonsburg, lol.
I mean, the football coach, the basketball coach, the principal...... :lame:
Webb always was a basketball man, tho. They musta brainwashed him. Gotta give 'em that

Ok, I guess I'm not up to speed on the inner workings of Floyd Co. politics. Goodness knows we've got plenty enough of that here in Pike Co...

I just meant that losing to SV at this time would not be considered an embarassing loss by any stretch. You take probably the best two-year stretch in the history of Shelby Valley, combined with a rebuilding year at P-Burg, and the recipe was there for a comfortable win for the Wildcats. Yet it ended up only being a 5-point margin.

I must say I was impressed with P-Burg's defense to hold SV out of the end zone for the majority of the game. The offense was just too reliant on Frasure, though, and SV was able to key on him and get stops.

Anyway, any district road win is a good win. Good luck to Prestonsburg the rest of the way.

Musta been a battle between both teams! Congrats to a hard fought battle by both. Gator95 was probley shaking since he thought they would kill Pburg. That's why he's not posted yet lol. Overall a great football game. Congrats to SV.

But, yes, congratulations Valley.

Congrats

It's a great win for Valley...but man this was one ugly game.

If either team wants to knock off a Danville, NewCath, or Lloyd they have to start improving in a hurry. NewCath is probably 5-6 TD's better than either team I saw.
#17
Don't understand the hate on the Derossett coaches. I can't speak for the principal but I know these guys want to win games and they are truly appreciated by their players. Most people moan and groan about politics because they try to play the same political strings but get nowhere with it.
Most of you who talk about John and James probably haven't even met them, you just listen to what you hear. Both are great guys and respected by all the players at the school.
#18
The Prestonsburg I remember...isn't this one. Seth Hyden and Thomas Ratliff aren't here. And they've only managed to ruin every other sport in their dynasty. Basketball, baseball...

New Cath could name the score against both these teams.

Congrats to SV! Had a feeling Pburg would make it close!

Neither will have to worry about New Cath. Danville will get that game.
#22
The problems at Prestonsburg start at the top and the top belongs to Jerry Butcher. Butcher is the lead clown of the circus that is known as Prestonsburg high school!
#23
A lot of teams do great early or play bad early but it's when the playoffs start that really matters. Pikeville/Paintsville come to mind last year. Big win for SV to defend the district title.
#24
Congrats to Coach Ratliff on the big win! He is one of the best in the mountains for sure!
#25
I find it funny that only one person came to there beloved coaches rescue after being publicly humiliated!! Lol
#26
Teams pretty even....like I said SV not as good as some think and P-Burg not really that bad!Good rematch possibly in playoffs!Imagine what this might of looked like on grass with all the rain!

Ok king, you have to be wife, dad, brother or sister because other than Micheal Burchett, there's not another single current or past player that would piss on neither John nor James if they were on fire.

How many millions have never met Barack Obama but still know how terrible he has been as president. You don't have to meet someone to see how stupid they are.

Penalty kill Shelby Valley in the 1st half ... Valley didn't play either the 1st half. Valley Defense made some bigs plays down the stretch as well... Good Luck to both team the rest of the season!!!!
#29
Nice win for SV. Surprised it was even close. P-burg seems to improve as season progresses. Without the Hampton kid getting his unexpected runs, game would have been different. IMO. They may meet again. Their O line is their weakness right now.

Sounds like a great game.
