The foul that was called after Riddle fell was terrible, he walked. These same refs have screwed teams all here at The Valley. The reason is a no brainer, my advice would be to not go in there and play. Valley will win their district game against David School and Valley will be 1 and out come Region.hh:

The game was great but the foul toward the end of the game was totally uncalled for, hell they wasnt even anyone around him when he fell, so you tell me how in the hell a foul was to be called. The boys played a great game and almost made the great comeback from being down 15 to start the fourth qtr. Stilll need to learn to finsh the games.

I wish everyone would understand that the ref situation does not only happen at the Valley. It happens pretty much everywhere. Yes, I agree that the call late in the 4th was a terrible call. Everyone gets bad calls from time to time.

Was a great game. Starting the forth qtr. Lawrence Co. was down 15. But made a huge comeback to cut the lead to 1 with just over a min to go and had the ball. And here is were we got the shaft.
Lawrence player shot the ball and #42 (Riddle) got the rebound around the free throw line, but when he went to take off tripped over his on feet and fell and slid across the floor about 3 feet (should have been a traveling call,.) then while he was slidding on the floor he lost the ball in which a Lawrence Co. player went to get the ball and they called a faoul on LC,. then about 20 sec later they still had the ball when there guard went to make a move and fell to the ground again., (another traveling call not called) so what do they do call a foul on us to put them to the line with a 1 point lead so he hits both free throws and we take the ball down and miss the shot and have to foul, well this time he misses the free one and Shawn Thompson got the rebound and raced down the floor where they called a time out with 3.8 secs left and Kyle Bradley got a shot to tie the game as time expired and Shelby Valley got out with the Win.
But it all started with 40 sec left in the first half when they called a foul on Shawn Thompson on a mysterious foul, we had just got the rebound off a missed shot and only down four. well they got the ball and hit a three and then we turn it over on the inbound pass and they missed the shot but went out of bounds on us. Well then on there inbound play Chandler Thompson gets hit with a moving screen and again they called it on us and set up another three for Shelby Valley to put us down 10 at the half.
All and all it was a great game it is sorry that the officals took this one away from LC in the end.
Shawn Thompson had 32 points 18 rebounds 5 steals and 4 assist.
I am not sure the totals on Kyle Bradley but he did hit 4 three's.
i agree 100 % with this! LC could have won this one and would have if the ref's hadn't have called that stupid call in the 4th quarter. i'm not sure who they called it on, but no one was even near the kid. the ref called bad calls all night for lawrence. just because it was a home game and senior night doesn't mean they have the right to cheat a team out of winning.
but, all in all lawrence county played hard. it's hard enough to beat valley at home, but when you have to play against the ref's too it's even harder. they were down 15 at the beginning of the 4th quarter and they may have been been down 17 at one time. i can't remember, but to bring it to a 3 point loss is pretty good if you ask me.

Right on. The bottom line is that if you are the better team, it shouldnt have to come down to a bad call by the ref for you to lose. There are many other areas of the game that a team can improve on that would not allow the refs to even play a part in the outcome. A missed rebound turned into a good rebound, a blown defensive assignment that doesnt happen, an extra pass, a missed free throw. there are so many aspects of the game of basketball that it is easy to overcome a bad call.

How many SV home games have you been to this year BasketBallonlyfan besides the Pikeville game. Who are their usual refs if you know them. I go to every Valley game and they have no "usual" refs. The referees are assigned in high school, not chosen by the school. It is not like grade school. The old "we got cheated" cry might apply in grade school, but not in high school unless it might be a game against an out of region team. Mike Hall refereed last night and I can't remember him calling a Shelby Valley home game this year. Do you honestly believe that refs just flat out cheat?

The first one was Cordia. I know for a fact in that game, the first 4 or 5 trips down the court, Valley was givin breaks by fouls being called against Cordia when the Valley players did the same thing on the other end and it was ok. I belive that the home team should have a break here and there. Kinda of like not calling a foul if it is questionable. Maybe even let them get away with a walk or two. I was not at this game, but the way it sounds it was a VERY bad call with the not calling walking but a foul instead. To make a call like that that could determine the outcome of a game isnt right for anyone to do. Home team or not.

Come on Batpuff! Blame it on the refs? The call when Riddle fell down was a bad call. I had a great view and he just fell. Mike Hall was behind him and I guess it looked like to him that Riddle was pushed. When Mitchell Riddle fell down, he kept his dribble alive the whole time while falling which isn't a walk. What about the manhandling of #3 Justice out top. LC kept hands on his waist all night. Funny how all the bad calls were made against LC. Don't be so biased. Lawrence County shot bad shots all night long. Did you not see any bad calls go against SV? When they played at Lawrence County all I heard was how Valley got cheated. Didn't believe it then, and don't believe your protest now. Do you really believe the refs cheated LC?
By the way, LCs fans were a little out of control--screaming personal taunts at the refs. The guy in the suit was especially out of hand. I thought he might be the principal, but once he opened his mouth, I was sure he wasn't.

When the foul was called, it shouldn't have been a walk either. The people who really know basketball know you can't walk without control of the ball. Cade was falling the whole way and never had control. It could have ended up being a jump ball or maybe LC would have come up with it, but you never know.
My questions to you are: Do you believe the refs blatantly cheat?
Who are Valley's usual refs?

That would make a little more sense in the Cordia game. Valley probably did get the refs for that one since it was a Panorama, but I still find it hard to believe that refs just flat out cheat, especially against in region teams like LC.

Tell us this then, was the call everyone is talking about a walk or foul? Also, do you think Valley follows the rules they are supposed to for a sports team?
02-22-2006, 08:05 PM
It was definitely not a foul, but I'm not sure it was a walk either. I think the ref thought it looked like a push from his angle, but it was definitely not.
What do you mean about following the rules? I haven't heard about any rules violations.

Well we can go on and on about it. Not to mention they only had one offical for the JV game. and whos fault is that the school that should have had the officals there. And it was a walk weather or not he had control of the ball as soon as he hit the floor and slid accross the floor its a walk, and he did have control he took two dribbles and then tripped over his feet. And I have complained about the officals in every game this year not just this one.

The fact of the matter is, the better team won...The fact that Lawrence was down 15 at one point shows who the better team is at this point..If they were supposd to be better than Shelby Valley they shouldnt have been in the situation to where the game came down to one call...Simple as that...

well I disagree with you to a point. Just because they were down 15 doesnt mean that they were any less of a team, they(SV) were on fire at the end of the half and built the 10 point lead. They made some shots that shouldnt have but oh well. but on the other hand you can also say that it shows how good Lawrence is to come back from down to 15 to even make a ame of it, They had the open shot at the end but was just rushed and thats how it ended.
02-22-2006, 09:40 PM
i don't think that being down by 15 at one point in the 4th quarter shows that lawrence is a "lesser" team than valley. if anything coming back and only losing by 3 shows how much lc can do when they work together as a team.
lawrence could have won and they would've if the ref's hadn't taken it from them. i know everyone has been complaining about the bad calls. but it's true, one of the last fouls that was called cost lc the game. the kid fell, it's as simple as that. none of lc's players were around him. but i guess the ref's wanted valley to win on senior night or something.

Made some shots they shouldn't have? You lost man, plain and simple. When you check the KHSAA website and look where Valley beat LC, you won't see a star or anything saying it was because of poor officiating. Set the example as an administrator on here and show some respect.
BTW, if you know LC's coaches, tell them to send LC's players to Boot Camp for a few weeks. In the JV game when I saw Justice from SV get shoved to the floor it made me sick. Justice, who is an 8th grader, as well as another player on Valley were both hit multiple times. In the varsity game SV players got beat to death with all the hooking and holding. I don't know if this is how LC's players are tought to play the game of basketball but they got away with as much as SV, if not more.

Congratulations to Valley's team and staff-
Great win.
There were bad calls made on both ends, and I'll be one of the first to say that the call made at the crucial point of a game (when the foul was called) really was awful. I DO NOT believe that the refs go out before the ball game with it set in their mind to cheat for Valley--- not at all. I believe the foul called at that point was due to the angle at which the ref was standing, and it appeared to him that he was pushed. Both teams got the bad end of the deal a few times throughout the duration of the ball game, but that's typical of any game you go see-- not just at Valley... which sooooo many people like to infer.
Great win.

And the JV game you ref. to well if the school would have made sure they had officals for the game it wouldnt have been that way, but Shelby Valley wasnt a little angel they were doing the samething, #4 for one was one of them.
Hooking and holding well I guess since the ref didnt call it, it wasnt a foul. Thats what everyone is saying about the traveling call that wasnt called.

Exactly. The refs missed calls for us too. They're people just like you and me, they make mistakes sometimes but they usually balance out throughout the course of a game.
Also, yes, you do have a right to talk on these boards but I would expect an admin to try to set a mature example for the posters on these boards. Constant blaming of the refs over losses is weak... there was a great game played Tuesday night and both teams played great games, that's what we should be talking about.

Some people dont know anything about the game so all they know to do is yell and cry, not only during the game, but even days after it is over....move on man. Wait till your team looses again and then come on here and cry again... I'll bet anyone that if LC gets beat by Belfry tonight it will be the refs fault. Even though the refs on that game tonight are 3 of the top 5 in the region! Just wait and see if they dont cry about how bad the refs are, but if they happen to win they will say they done a good job.

First of all don't lump a whole county together as one and second of all the only "they" that can win the game are the boys playing and I don't see any of the players on here saying a word about any of the games. If the players did come on here I am sure THEY would get a good laugh over how childish grown men behave on here.Good Luck Dawgs !!!!!
