Line play , and a couple other things, depth and conditioning. This week will be a lot longer game than the grid. I think both skill group is in shape but line depth will play a part.

I think Bell is the favorite here due to experience.
But the tide has changed a little bit in this rivalry. The juniors and seniors on this team know exactly what it feels like to beat Bell, as they have the past two years. The sophomores, who comprise a large portion of the skills players on this team, haven't lost to Bell County football team in a long time. Not only did they win last year as freshman, but they also wore out Bell Middle as 7th and 8th graders. The freshman beat Bell Middle pretty bad last year as well.
I say all of this because for a while, the kids at the MMS and MHS didn't even know what it was like to beat Bell and it probably affected their psyche. That is no longer the case by a long shot.

Why was middlesboro playin their freshman team against bells middle school?

Your question doesn't even make sense. It is obvious that I meant this year's freshman beat Bell last year as 8th graders. Sensitive subject?

It's pretty difficult for a good group of sophomores, like Middlesboro has, to beat a good group of seniors, like Bell. I'm not quite as sure as before the way Bell looked in the gridorama, but I know Woolum and Humfleet being out hurt.
Bell's eighth graders the last two years weren't very good. I haven't heard about this year's yet.
Middlesboro's 8th graders lost pretty badly, from what I heard, to Williamsburg on Saturday. I know they lost at Cumberland earlier in the week. Is there a big drop off in this year's 8th grade class? How long will that last?

Bell County's middle school beat Franklin-Simpson 42-21 last Saturday.

I can see what you are trying to say...however...it can be said like this. Middlesboro juniors and seniors have been beat by most everyone in the county in middle school. Middlesboro sophomores and freshmen have beaten most of the same. I guess in two years it will cycle back around and Middlesboro will have a better team than they do now. Is that it?

They did play middles school last year
08-17-2015, 01:07 AM
yes you are correct they did I was thinking the previous year.

Yes they absolutely did play in middle school last year as well as the year before. Middlesboro won both, handily.
Bobcats9108, there score against Franklin Simpson means absolutely nothing in this discussion. Congrats though?
HCS, there was a considerable drop off this year at the middle school level. That said, they lost to Cumberland on a last second touchdown. Hadn't heard about the Williamsburg score yet. The only real reason I brought up middle school football is because there is a core group of players for MHS that has had a lot of success against Bell County football throughout the years.
I do agree HCS that the question will be if the strong group of sophomores for MHS can make it a game against the seniors of Bell County. Should be fun.

They've played four of the past five years, only not playing in 2013.

The last statement is the most knowledgable statement made by anyone.

This is a talented lot of players, and maybe their capabilities are stronger than those who start. If so, needs to be adjusted quick. Friday night is almost here.

What???
08-17-2015, 06:09 AM
It goes without saying that there are also juniors and seniors who are also very talented on this team. Freshmen as well. But the majority of talent, in my opinion, is from the 10th graders on the roster.
Coach Massengill will play the guys that give us the absolute best chance to win.

Next couple of years will be much better for the Jackets. I am proud of those boys, they will, I think, be capable of competing. If we stay healthy and focused, we will open some eyes. Jacket Nation! :1:

Bell County very big. To physical for the Jackets.
08-20-2015, 03:49 AM
With all due respect to all posters , Bell should win this game big. To many returning starters and much stronger than the Jackets. Middlesboro has athletes and some quickness , but will not stop the power game. Jackets are a couple years away. We will have something to prove defensively , but Middlesboro will not be able to stop the offense. The 4th quarter will be the difference . Depth on the line will show at this time. I am going to say 42-14.
