There are probably more, but off the top of my head, the list below are the schools that use "Rebels" as their mascot. Not all of them use Red, White and Blue as their colors and not all of them use the 'confederate flag'.... but with all of the hoopla surrounding the term "rebel" and the "confederate flag".... one would think it will.
Todd County Central
Allen Central
Boyle County
Casey County
If major retailers have stopped selling, Government buildings are removing it, TV Land has pulled "The Dukkes of Hazzard" from their lineup because of the 'confederate flag'....... I see several marches and protests until something is done.

We live in such a politically correct society these days that the politically correct police have drove it into the ground. Where does it stop? Imo,the schools that have the word Rebel(s) for their school name should keep it as it is. We don't live in a perfect world, so the politically correct crowd need to get over it, and move on.

Sadly, we may see a day coming that everyone mascot has to becomes their colors. The Raceland Orange or the Russell Red Reds, the Paintsville Blues, but its safe to say u'd never see the Pikeville Blacks or the Allen CeWhites lol

Allen Central will be consolidating with South Floyd and the new mascot will be called the Jaguars. I doubt they will even mess with it after the David incident a few years ago.

The Pikeville All Blacks could actually be pretty cool. Gotta love the New Zealand rugby team.

Nope. There term Rebel will still be used by any and all.
If I didn't already have a favorite NFL team and started watching and had to pick one, it would be the Redskins. I know they suck but the fact that Schneider has repeatedly told Obama and his hippy liberal what they can do to themselves makes me love that guy.

Fight fire with fire. Say what you are actually thinking and throw all this crap back into the faces of these politically correct fools. Quit being so passive. Call it like your ancestors did two generations back.. Show some fight for a change. Grow a spine.
Go Rebels. Go Redskins.
Go Rebels. Go Redskins.

I have spent my entire adult life defending our constitutional rights in one form or fashion. Now, I see our government becoming the ones allowing these rights to be limited on the basis that our freedom of speech offends one group or another. This kills my soul. The constitution guarantees the right to freedom of speech, even if it offends you.

I'd sure hate to change mascots, especially if I am a school like Hurley (VA) who has a 50'x50' confederate flag overhanging the side of a mountain face.

I agree with this statement. I fear the day our government says you cant own a firearm, cant fly a confederate flag, cant say the pledge of allegiance with the phrase "under god" in it, cant take a knee and pray before a football game, all because it offends a few, but its ok for same sex marriage even though that offends the majority of us. The majority of us don't count they are worried more about the feelings of a select few, as they say the sqeaky wheel gets the grease.

the majority sits quietly and allows the minority to rule is the problem.

Very true. To many people sit quietly. A good example is how African americans will stick together. When 1 is murdered by a white man they march in protest. When the white boy in Mayfield was murdered by a black man there where no protest.

I just wish people would stop judging people as a group. I wont judge someone because someone of there race has pissed me off, and I shouldn't be judged because im a white boy that likes confederate flag. I have 1 on my wallet, and pocket knife, but have black friends. I hate the fact some would judge me along side some neo natzi that burns black churches. My pet peve is seeing the confederate flag along side a swastika, but the skinheads disgrace the confederate flag by carrying both, and by there actions.

Just inserting a thought: I am not sure people, although I am sure some do, want to get rid of all the flags, but I believe some WOULD like them removed from GOVERNMENT property, which would include public schools. I am not sure this falls into the category of an individual's "freedom of speech". On private property, you should be good, one would think.

That's a good point im not sure many don't think about. One tax payer is just as important as the next, meaning when it comes to public and government buildings, land, schools, etc, whatever is done at said property must not interfere with anyone's beliefs, opinions, religions, etc.
Meaning, you can have one person in a town of 7 million complain about a flag, statue, etc, on public property and the government must consider taking it down or removing it. This is pretty much exactly what happened recently in Oklahoma where the Satanist complained about the 10 commandments statue outside of a public property. They either wanted it taken down or there Satanist statue put up beside it. Of course the Oklahoma supreme court caved and they made the 10 commandments statue be moved.
IMHO, there should be nothing on public property period. It doesn't need to look pretty. It doesn't need decorations, and it doesn't need useless employees. After all, we are the ones paying for it. There is no need for gigantic judicial centers like the one in the middle of Williamsburg and other cities when a cheap storage building would be sufficient. I think we shouldn't waste tax payers money on anything. No flags, even American, no landscaping, no expensive chairs, tables, etc. Lets go cheap and put that money elsewhere.
Of course the people youd have to get to cut that sort of funding are the exact people using these building so of course it wont change.
On the flip side to that, what is a concerned individuals place in asserting that theres no need to waste money on sports in schools? To be honest, it seems a lot of kids graduate high school dumb. Its sad, but its the truth. One could argue the funding for things such as title 9 and sports in general is a waste of money when our educational system as a whole sucks.

I agree that one taxpayer is just as important as the next. However, the problem in this country is that the non-taxpayers are running the show. If you don't contribute because you won't work (millions fit this group), you should have no say so and you sure as hell shouldn't have a vote.

How many students have graduated from these six schools over time?
How many students are enrolled there now?
Being called a "Rebel" to some is a sense of pride and family heritage.
Being called a "Rebel" to some is an insult and a disgrace.
And to some people, it really doesn't matter one way or the other.
No matter your race, you fall in to one of these three categories.

My dads high school was the rebels. There yearbooks even had a big confederate flag on the cover. They would have a fit these days about that. That school was consolidated, and the building turned into a middle school where I went.

If the Confederate Flag is permanently moved from everywhere in the country and no school can call itself the "Rebels", just how many of the uneducated, unemployed, unemployable blacks will get themselves a skill and actually become employed? And, how much will blacks reduce the 75+% figure regarding children born to unmarried women be lowered? And, how many of the biological fathers of these children will start actually supporting their offspring. And, how many of the multitude of blacks living on welfare be reduced? And, how many less crimes, particularly in which blacks kill other blacks, will there be?
The answer to all of this is, of course, zero. Defaming the flag won't produce anything but big possum grins on the faces of liberal politicians trolling for the black vote.

I haven't heard anything about getting rid of any Rebel mascot in Kentucky, and you probably won't. Rebel isn't just a civil war term, and when I hear rebel I actually think more about the Colonial Rebels rebelling against British tyranny.
Not sure why Truth felt the need to get so personal against African Americans in the post above, especially considering there is nothing actively taking place against a rebel mascot, but it does show there is a clear problem.

The black people would also grin about the flag being removed, but if they ever took time to think about it. Did the United States really fight the Confederacy to free slaves. Not really. The Northern states had slaves to in the early part of this country. Once they didn't need them anymore they got rid of them then bitched the south was using slaves, and that it was immoral. For how many years did the north bitch about it, but would do nothing about it. The answer is a long time. They never sent an army in to free slaves. The war started when the south got pissed, and wanted to separate. If you join something why cant you withdrawl from it? How long do you let someone stay in your house when you ask them to leave before you bust them in the mouth? The north refused to leave so the south opened fire. The war was not over slavery it was over independence. Sure slavery was a huge part of the disagreement, but not near all of it. An emancipation Proclomation 3 years after the war started freeing slaves doesn't mean the north was fighting for it. It was a smart move to make the north look good, and people would rally behind it. Black people should really ask thereselves was the United States really fighting for our freedom or was they just holding the south at gunpoint for wanting to leave. The northern hero grant said" If I thought this war was over slavery id gladly relinquish my sword to the other side"

Majority Rule/Minority Will
Basic rule for sociology and government structure.
But back to the topic of changing mascots in KY public schools...I am to understand the site base is responsible for selecting mascots? Or is it a community public vote? Either way it is a matter of democracy and in my opinion protected by the first amendment. I'll use the state of South Carolina as a whole. If 65% of the state believes that flag should be flown at the Capitol building, then if I'm a state representative, I'm voting to keep Naval Jack flying or I'll probably be out of a job. 10th and 1st amendments should be enough to keep flying whatever you want to fly, flying.
