Colonel Stadium updates
#1
other schools across the state have built new stadiums or upgraded their facilities. will Whitley County ever be doing any upgrades such as building new field houses? I know they were supposed to build a new stadium then decided to leave it at the current location on campus. I heard Whitley County is getting a new scoreboard, and that's a needed upgrade since the current one is old Smile.just curious if we might see some changes in the near future.

I don't see it any time soon. Football is the money maker but it takes some big time donors to get something like that done now with all of the sports relying on the money.

Truth be told, if the field stays where it is now (which IMHO should always be) then they shouldn't ever need a Fieldhouse. Whitley's locker rooms and weight rooms are bigger than most ive seen. Just seems like it would be a waste of money to me to build something you pretty much already have, plus its isolated at the end of the school.
To be honest, Whitley's seating is sufficient for the people that show up, especially over the past few years, but I think that will be wildly tested against Corbin this year.

So in the end, if I were going to make improvements to Whitley, the only things I would do is add a digital scoreboard, and perhaps expand seating to maybe a U shape like Lvilles stadium and encroach it in. While not necessary, its something theres room for and something ive always though would look cool since ive never seen another high school do it. Oh and upgrade the freaking bathrooms and make them larger.
I really think we should be quite thankful to have a campus like we do. Ive been to a lot of places in this state and have yet to see one come close being as nice as Whitleys. Even our middle school field is nicer than 90% of high school stadiums ive went to.

I say stay away from the turf, don't waste the money, and just do little things when you can.

I liked their field and just the whole campus set up, but definitely a new scoreboard, throw in a jumbotron and add the turf. I like the turf (sorry Gut Confusednicker: )

I dont like turf.they definitely have a nice campus and usable facilities, but I wouldnt complain about seeing locker rooms and a nice entrance at the field instead of walking across the parking lot Smile. I heard they are getting a new scoreboard and play clocks on each end.

I think the present scoreboard is antique.I'll take the jumbo tron but keep the turf lol

I love the set up at Whitley County...always have!!

The Jumbotron would be nice, though...as far as turf is concerned....not sure. The more turf being laid down, the more negative comments I hear about it.

sometimes I like to watch a good muddy football game Smile. I love the current facilities at Whitley County, but a few cosmetic changes and modern upgrades couldnt hurt.

Nice setup. Fans are close to the field but def. needs an upgrade on the stands. Especially visitors side. Always liked Colonel Stadium and still do.

Jmo, Whitley has a great facility!! Could use a new score board, great place to watch a game.. Whitley has so much land, I don't think that they need a turf field..

Imo if your goal is to reach the state tournament then YES FOR TURF. I like grass. I think whitley football stadium is in the perfect spot. I would add some more visitors seating. Need to add more concession help. A nice scoreboard, Bigger rest-rooms and throw in a JUMB-TRON.....This a Beauiful place for a football game. Now if you all have plently of money please share with williamsburg and corbin. :please:

Whitley has a very nice facility. Love the way it's in the middle of the Campus. They don't need turf, they have enough field space for every activity. Upgrade Clock and Seating and it will be Great as always.

Bingo can make some money, problem is there is lots of cash changing hands and usually others making the money...Didn't a couple go to jail over stealing bingo money at Whitley...
I like the stadium as is.....
Hearing the track will be resurfaced this summer...
