Does any of you cardinal fans have coach matney's record at sheldon clark.

As much as you may like to believe that Coach Matney isnt nearly as worried about material possesions as he is worried about getting his boys ready for each season and for life in general. It would take alot more than what pikevill would offer to take him away from that.
#33
i played for matney and he is a good coach but if the job is offered he will take it
#34
Yeah right. He hasn't spent 2 years at JC for nothing. He gets payed enough and has tons of support here, and will always have that from the JC family. Pikeville can offer money, but they cant offer the relationships that JC has.
#35
we thought the same thing here in Inez. Now look where he is. Trust us when we say he is not loyal to one program. He is loyal to himself and himself only. Just ask Coach Hager.

Just Remember Pitno you know the coach that use to be at Kentucky he had more support then any body in the country but MONEY talks .Besides all this stuff about Matney going to Pikeville is silly any ways Thiers alot better coaches out there then him that I think Pikeville would go after first. Matney has had some good seasons but he really hasnt gotten over the hump he hasnt ever won the big one or even the one before the big one but maybe he will someday but when he does he will have to beat some coaches that are better then he is and when that happens then maybe people at the next level will take a look but untill then he has alot to prove.:Geek:

i dont think so.

i agree with moofer,,show him the $$$$$ and he is gone

Has anyone heard if Pikeville College has contacted Coach Matney or any coach for the job. I would like to see a coach from Eastern Kentucky take the job.

Keep telling yourself that Cash! Because if they show Matney the CASH he'll be gone!

Nathan Moore (former SC Cardinal played for Matney) who plays LB for us (Pikeville) said the word around Inez and Martin County is that Matney applied for the job. That was great news to me, I would love to play for Matney.

Look at the teams he has had to play against in the past in the Semi-Finals to try to get to the "Big One". Personally I would rather see someone from our area get the job that will bring in the EKY talent that is floating around. Pikeville College football is on the rise, if a local guys gets the job there will be more and more support drawn this way.

I Agree I would love to see a local coach get the job .All I was saying is that people on here think he is some kind of super coach or something and what I was saying is theres better coaches right a round here that have proven they are a better coach then him and I just think that Pikeville would go after somebody like coach Hylton from bell or maybe the coach from the Rock or even the Ashland coach these guys have proven thier selfs year in and year out no matter what schools they have been at . In my opinion Mattney is a OK coach but far from the best in my book. I would put him in there with Chuke Williams but I think Chuke is better as far as winning football games but I think Mattney might be a little bit better sportsman in the game of football but not by much. Just my opinon I know this will stepp on alot of toes at JC but just prove me wrong:Geek:

LOL ARE YOU SERIOUS! Nobody has done more with less then Jim Matney. Chuke had SOO MUCH talent, and did he even make an appearance in the state-title game? NO! Granted Matney hasn't either, but he didn't have Mike West, Tristan Cordle, the shorts, storts, Gerad Parker, Dontae Wright...Matney is by far a better coach then Chuke.

coach matney has always wanted to be at the college level i have even herd it out of his mouth before that thats his goal to reach

Chuke had seasons when he would only have around 25 to 30 kids on the team and some of them was freshman but he still would win ball games . As far as Matney goes he has had some good talent maybe not as much but he has had some talent just look at his team last year at JC didn't he have the leading rusher in the state on his team and what did he win not even one play off game and I think he had the all around best team in are district but he just flat out got out coached in the play offs and at Ashland JC had a lot better team then Ashland did last year but ashland was the district champs . Untill Matney does something I will just call him a decent coach I just don't see what all the hype is about Matney .

Man, you can't go by that, the boy from KNOTT COUNTY was what, 3rd in the state in rushing and what did they do. Chuke coached Paintsville last year (not this past year) and they led the state in rushing as a team and they didn't even win a playoff game. Chuke wouldn't have made it to the region championship this past year coaching Paintsville, but coach Runyon did. Chukes knows ONE offense and one ONLY. I would take Matney over Chuke ANY day.

I don't think Matney won a playoff last year either. And I dont think Chuke was the head coach at paintsville either he was just an assistant. And I never said I would pick him over Matney because I wouldn't pick either one and for each a different reasons but thats just me.

Chuke might not have had the label "head coach" but he definately called the shots last year (2004 season) at Paintsville, both offensively and defensively.

I was told today by Coach Matney himself that he is happy at Johnson Central and is not interested in anything else. He told me that he hasn't nor will not apply for the Pikeville College job.

That is certainly great news for the Central favorite.

IDK why you are rolling your eyes, I seen it first hand from the time he arrived til the time he left. Ask any player on that team who ran the show.

Very good news for Johnson Central.

He may very well do it but why do you care what he does?
#58
i think he would make a good coach for the bears
#59
I know Jim well. He has always wanted one job and that is Belfry. When that comes open then he will take it if offered to him and theyd be crazy not to. But you know how Pike politics works at times. But I dont see him at Pikeville College.
JC fans you have a good coach and a wonderful person. Enjoy him and best of luck.

I can tell you that it would be hard to imagine a place that would love Coach Matney more or pay him better than Johnson Central does.

And from my interactions with him, he certainly seems quite happy in Johnson County. When Central used to suffer at his hands, I used to hate the guy, before I knew him. But having spent a fair amount of time around him, it's hard to imagine a better human being than the one he appears to be. Might all be smoke and mirrors, who knows, but if he's putting on a charade, it's one of the best charades I've ever seen.

I think he'll be a Golden Eagle for the near future, at least. I hope he retires there.
