If Hammons and Lawson show up big for Jackson County, and they get decent points from Bundy, Harris, Garrison, etc., Jackson County could give Clay a good run, and may even pull the upset. They beat them last year at Jackson. Not a game for Clay to overlook!

They also had Jordan Fox and Collier last year.

"IF" ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

And Clay had McDaniel and Allen last year too. That's a point guard lost that wasn't replaced, and a big man that wasn't replaced. Say what you will, but this should be a tight game. Hammons and Lawson are as good as any player in the
13th. Jackson just isn't deep, which could hurt. And high school basketball is all about "ifs". That's why they play the games. Otherwise, just give the most talented team the trophy and forget it.

CC will win by DOUBLE DIGITS...no IFS about it.

I disagree Count. Clay's usually 10-12 points better at home than anywhere else. I'll take Jackson by a deuce, 78-76. Hammons and Lawson with huge games. Plus, this game means more to Jackson to sure up the 2 seed.

CC might get by this one will be tough.

This statement right here tells me all I need to know. If you think those 2 are as good as anyone in the region you have general colored glasses on. I can provide stats that says different. Good players yes, elite I don't think so.

Scoring-wise, Hammons is getting 22.6 per game and Lawson 17.9. Smith gets 20.9 and Farmer gets 18.2. Smith shoots better from the floor, percentage wise, than Hammons, but Lawson shoots better than Farmer. Hammons and Lawson have 62 three pointers between them and Smith and Farmer have 56. Farmer shoots better from the free throw line than Lawson(87% to 80%), but Hammons shoots better than Smith(82% to 74%). Combined rebounding gives a slight edge to Clay, 11.6 to 10.9. Hammons is the 3rd or 4th leading scorer in the region behind Broughton from NL and Frazier from OBI. "General colored glasses?" I think this backs up my statement that Hammons and Lawson are 2 of the best players in the 13th region.

I think it's hard to place Hammonds and Lawson in that top echelon because they were always role players. So was Smith but his progression is very obvious to the entire mountain region. They score roughly 60% of Jackson's points per game and then it drops of substantially to the following players. That tells me they are everything that the Generals are. However, Farmer and Smith account for about 53% of Clay County's scoring on a team that averages more and has a better record. I'm not using that to put Jackson down, just as a statistic. Clay still has 2 players averaging 12 and 11, with another at 9. Farmer and Smith are part of a better team and yet find a way to get "there's". The great players will still find a way to score and at the same time have their teammates scoring as well. I feel like if Hammonds and Lawson played for one of the top 3-4 teams in the region you would see them at numbers such as 14 ppg and 12 PPG respectively. They are still good players but they aren't in that top 5 category.
01-30-2015, 02:33 AM
If Smith and Farmer played on Jackson's team or any team with a surrounding cast like that they would average 30 a game. Smith is the only player in the region that averaging more than 20 PPG and shooting above 55%. And he's a jump shooter which makes it that much more impressive. And I would just about guarantee that he is leading the region in blocked shots. And his defense well it speaks for itself. Hammons is a nice player but he's not in Smith's and Broughton' s league and probably not in Barger or Fraziers league. I would pit him in there with Grubb from south and Taylor from corbin. And I don't think anyone in this region would take Lawson over Farmer. If I'm building a team they would be role players not stars. And I'm pretty sure the college offers will reflect this as well.

Was hoping to make over to jackson tonight but some things have come up. Hope for a good competitive game for both teams with no injuries. I still see Clay winning behind big games from Smith and Farmer. Also wouldn't surprise me to see the big Gabbard kid play well.
