Knott County Central 56 Clay County 51
#1
Final.
#2
A lot closer than anyone outside of Clay County thought. Held Justice to 12, but Hall was the difference maker. Hard to keep off the offense glass. Too many second chance points and trigger happy threes hurt the Tigers.
#3
Closer than I thought.
#4
Clay plays closer than I thought. Tigers will be fine. Good game preparing for tournament time.
#5
Hall killed clay tonight on the boards. Sexton, House and Smith played some of the best defense I've seen in a while. I think Clay proved tonight they can play with anyone in the state when they buckle down and play defense. Very physical game tonight. Clay had their chances down 3 with 40 seconds left and missed 2 good looks from three. Farmer had 20 pts and Smith had 14pts. Good effort tonight proud of the Tigers.
#6
Knott Central is overrated big time.
#7
Heard that Smith played with the flu tonight.
#8
Yes he did but no excuses. He was throwing up during game. And visibly sick. But gutted it out

Not one bit overrated. Very good team.
#10

#11

#12
Nice job by CC Tigers.

I totally agree. No way there tops in the state. Heck, there barely top ten in the 14th. I'd say they wouldnt even be ranked in the 13th...

Didn't Knott take care of Lawrence in pre season? Handily?
#15
Good job and nice game. We are clay co and act like it

No Knott did not play LC. But for the #3 time in the state to only put up 56 to a unranked team. They may win the 14 but in no way are they going to win at RUPP.
Just a average mountain team. They have 2 players just like Sheldon Clark that take all the shots.

Just asking,, I couldn't remember.. Was thinking they did. But I'd wager they'll do good at state.. Either way there's a lot of butt hurt coming from you somewhere,, lol..

MVP of the game for Clay County has to be Ryan House's defense on Justice. I will not sit here and say Knott is overrated or that Cam can't play elite D1 but House held him to 12 with no more than two really good looks. Trey came to play, really liked that. Didn't know Blake was battling illness but could tell he wasn't feeling well. Stumbled very often and lost the ball but still had a nice game. How many rebounds did Sexton have? Wow. However, Clay County's Achilles Heel showed: Size. I have no doubts that this is the best team in the 13th region but I would like to know how many second chance points Knott had. Hall's size doesn't lie and the boy can play. By far the difference in the game. The Tigers also seemed to keep the role players out of the game for the most part.

Have not had a chance to watch Cam Justice in a lot of games, maybe 3-4 with some bits and pieces here and there so tonight I wanted to observe his entire skill set. The kid can play, no doubt. There were some questionable calls both ways and that's part of the game. He does have one thing that all the good ones do though, the ability to question EVERY SINGLE call. Whether it was always wanting a foul on every shot to the ball visibly going off his knee out of bounds with no Clay player around him, he still seemed to find the official. Patriot fans will eat me but do know that I realize many players do that. Just would prefer players going the other way when you know you have all the accolades. The refs let them play though and that's why this was a game.

IMO, these are the best teams in their respective regions.

Average mountain team?:yikes:
If Knott is just an average mountain team I would love to see a great mountain team. Hell, just a good one will do.

First off hats off to Ryan House. He played fantastic D tonight.
Second Justice impressed me so much tonight. He never forced anything, played perfect TEAM ball.
Third I think we can put Smith in the conversation with the top Jrs. In the State. He played great TEAM ball tonight also. He plays all areas of the game at such a high level. So calm always.

Just to let you know since you think you know everything. CLAY IS RANKED 11TH IN THE AP POLL. and 20TH IN THE bgp compos. Poll which combines all 4 polls. So clay is a ranked team.
#23
And I agree count, Smith had 3 straight defensive plays down the stretch that keep clay close. And yes Ryan House and Sexton also played lock down D. When Clay brings this kind of effort to the defensive end they are as good as anyone in the state.

Ole Miss about beat UK...I guess UK is really overrated...lucky to even be in the top 25..
#25
Nice summation UKCC. Justice has spent a number of years developing that habit and will
be asked to drop it at Vandy. Now, would be a good time to start. Otherwise, he is playing
to his potential. Involving the team is the ticket for Knott to win the state. Knott rebounds
with everyone. They were strong rebounders against Trinity. Knott is pacing towards a
late season jell. It helps Knott to play in a number of tight games. Tournament games
are usually physical affairs that produce low scores. Everyone knew that Clay had a
physically strong and athletic team. To date, Knott was their best measuring stick.
Without Farmer, Clay was still tough at Boyle. UKCC called it, Boyle's big man (Elkins?)
and Hall for Knott reveal Clay's rebounding weakness. Clay has plenty of time to
address that with fundamentals and "want to." Sometimes leaving it on the floor
isn't quite enough but can blatantly point out what needs to be worked on. Now Clay
has to start leaving it on the practice floor working on rebounding. Meanwhile, Knott
keeps on chugging and seems to be working themselves. Justice is letting the game
come to him and Hall is hitting the glass on a regular basis. Cornett and Christian
continue their stellar defense and rebounding while not shying away as much from
the offensive chores. The sophomore, Combs, still develops. The team is wisely
living with his mistakes and giving him room to grow. He'll fall into the machinery
by year's end and could well become a potent surprise. Knott is yet to lose to an
in state team. Beating a fired up, super strong and athletic 13th front runner like
Clay County is another experience lesson in their quest to win state. The upcoming
PCC challenge offers another style to master, a physical team that uses pressure.
Tobler might play up to the Hall challenge, but he won't keep both Christian and
Cornett off the glass. Knott handled last year's Cordia pressure and this year, handled
the team speed of Covington Catholic. Beverly and Tobler are improved and present
potential athletic mismatches. PCC is playing at home. Stay at home folks, it adds up
to be another dull grind it out affair between two average mountain teams that won't
do anything at Rupp.

This was a very entertaining game, great atmosphere, and it featured several good players. House played very good defense against Justice. Hall was the difference for Knott. His size killed Clay County. If both teams play hard like they did tonight then they should both be in Rupp Arena come March. Knott County Central is a great team and Clay County is pretty good too when they bring it like they did tonight.
#27
Thanks 2elijah, well spoken yourself.
#28
Good teams find a way to win, Congrats to the Patriots! Hall is a man among boys inside, he should get the ball every trip down the floor against PCC tomorrow!
#29
I can't believe so many of you think Knott doesn't have a chance to win the state. Apparently you didn't watch them dismantle the two time defending state champion in Arkansas at the beach ball classic. I'm A PCC fan and would love to beat them but it would take a perfect game. These kids play when they need to play and I will be in Rupp to watch them bring the trophy home.

I was impressed KC doesn't ever foul, did Clay even shoot a free throw? Knott didn't foul in the second half until under two minutes to go in the game. Now that's amazing D......
