Belfry 14 Central 7 - 3A State Championship
#91
Hey Gut AND pj are still here!! Wow.....I was skeered for a second or two!! AND..I have found the computer center at the hotel! How great is that????

You two need to read your posts again, and have a little humility if you can muster it!! This game was everything a championship game should have been!!

I would attempt to humiliate you more, but I gotta leave now to go watch Williamsburg play for the title.

Great job Belfry!!!!

I think they probably had more penalty yards than offensive yards. I think they ran the first 3 plays and had 3 penalties. Then by the time they cleaned that up, they had already given Belfry something they have never had when playing Central, confidence. Once a team has that, it's hard to steal it back. I think the Central bunch is young but, 3a gets tougher next year as well.

Belfry has never had a confidence issue with Central. Heck the first time they lost to them was largely in part to overconfidence. The 3rd Game everyone was predicting a running clock for Central and Belfry took them to the wire. Belfry was Belfry. If anything "gave them confidence" it was Austin Hatfield taking his first carry 39 yards and then scoring two plays later while running over top of Central defenders.

Central didn't help themselves with 1st Half penalties (2nd Half they only had one penalty if I recall...credit to Scroggins).. but at the same time I would argue that Belfry's penalties, though fewer in number, were every bit as important. Until the last drive of the game when Belfry was playing prevent Central never proved they were capable of moving the ball against Belfry. The majority of Central's penalties came stacked on top of each other in the First Half. It certainly didn't help their offensive chances, but at the same time the fact remains they could not block Belfry's DT's and Belfry's secondary was too good.

I do agree that 3A gets a lot tougher... but as I said at the start of the year..until proven otherwise the path to Bowling Green will run through Central in the West and Belfry in the East. With 8 and 7 Starters back respectively for each team 2015 will only further illustrate this point.

At the end of the day Belfry is the 3A State Champs and Paducah Tilghman didn't even make it out of the Regional Finals. I recall an old proclamation before the season where you took exception to Belfry fans saying they would win 3A and boldly proclaiming that starting this year PT would own 3A. How you like that crow Medium or Medium Well? Wink

This thing called knowledge is instrumental.....get you some.

Long way till 2015, but the road literally does still mainly run through Belfry. If the Pirates keep dominating the district, only the regional championship would be away from Pond Creek. Home field means a lot and a regional championship game at Russell would be a good matchup, but should favor Belfry. Like I said a long way till that, but 53 of the 60 that ran out on the field yesterday for Belfry will be back.

Everybody using the central is young excuse. Belfry started like what 4 sophomores yesterday on defense and a freshman.

1st time in my opinion we were the more physical team in a matchup with Central and it was key I think to the win.

2 straight playoff games and 2 straight state championships without the D allowing a point.

I said this very thing - we were by far the more physical team.

All class, Coachdad! Good luck to your son, I tell people I know his dad all the time Smile
That dang offense that Belfry runs is waaaay too one dimensional and predictable to ever be able win anything at the state level.....When will Haywood ever learn that you've got to air that thing out and throw it all over the field!!!!!

J/K..... Congratulations on another awesome year Belfry.

We were in 2011, too, or whatever year it was when Josh Dixon was a senior and Tony Messer was a junior.

The 15-14 game is the one I'm talking about. We dominated the line of scrimmage and the miraculous TD catch got us

Yeah you're right about that one, I forget that game... maybe it's selective memory because I WANT to forget it. But I only remember us breaking Wales in half, and that big play distinctively.
Austin Hatfield was a beast.. I knew Keaton would bust one.. Dakota Stanley was all over the field to me one of the best linebackers in the state.. Proud of this seniors and the under class men.. Belfry has a lot to look foward too. Kaleb Edwards also had a heck of a game 1 int and 4-5 passes broken up
Belfry will sure miss these guys next year Congrats 2014 State Champs
:1:4-time state champs baby!!!!!:1:

Your grammar is very impressive. Hope you pass 3rd grade soon. And it's 4 good years, sorry you must have forgot 03 and 04. To play on what you said we also probably could have win the 1a,2a, and 3a titles in WV also.
I had such a great time at the tournaments this year, that I'm gonna make it an annual thing!!!

Great job Belfry Pirates; hope to see you there next year!!!
Congrats Pond Creek Nation!!! What a game.

Congrats to Central on another great season!!

Great to see such mutual respect between these two teams. Both programs are very classy.
