If the Rams win this week I would love to see Beechwood as the opponent in the finals. Beechwood is a very old foe of the Rams that has ended many of our seasons. If Raceland could pull the miracle and win it all Beechwood is the team I would like to see them beat. Obviously a lot of things have to happen first(like beating a good Williamsburg team this week) but I think most people from Raceland would agree that beating Beechwood would be a very satisfying win.

If we make it to the carpet, I would be extactic. To exact revenge of of all the beatings we took to NKY teams over the years ( most of the time we lost to a state champ or runner up and many times played them closer than their finals opponent did), It would be an incredible feeling. Talk about a story if that were to happen. We got a mighty opponent to tske down before thats even an option though.

No offence but neither team wants any of either of the west... only chance is , the two west teams beat each other up so bad their third string plays the east.. thats ur ideal ask santa for xmas match up..

You will get a worthy opponent from the east this year.. It will not be a blow out.

I really hope so .. thats what the finals need to be about..

Based off of the results of the past two years in the finals your assessment is absolutely right. The east has not even been close to the west in recent years and I have said before that the semifinal game in the west is usually the true state championship game. With that said, anything is possible in any given game so don't write of who ever makes it from the east just yet. As far as this game goes, I believe that Raceland will win, this community believes that we can win, and most importantly this team believes that we can win. Raceland will be coming into this week with the same chip on their shoulder that Williamsburg has with Mayfield. I think this will be a hard fought game that will be decided by 10 points or less.

I find it amusing that you think the burg is 42 points better than last year. Don't tell me that was last year. The Senior class this year for the burg is well known. They have DOMINATED all competition in 1A for the last 2 years, except for one team. Don't tell me they are bigger, faster, and stronger this year. Like Mayfield has been twiddling their thumbs for 12 months.
Mayfield scored in their first 3 plays last year. It was 21-0 before you could blink. There was 9:46 left in the first quarter. We played cruise control from there on. We ran a simple counter play from our own 9 yard line later in the 1Q, and a freshman RB took it to the house to make it 28-0. Easy peasy. Bring it on.

what was the point turnaround on the Hazard/Mayfield championship games?

What was the injury turnaround? We lost that game, fair and square.

i found it:
2010: Mayfield 47 Hazard 6
2011: Hazard 24 Mayfield 6
Hazard took 41 points from Mayfield's total and added 18 of their own. By my math that is a 59 point turnaround. So to say it cant be possible that a team is that much better from year to year, isnt true. Im not saying that this will be the case, simply stating that it IS possible. Another question I have is this. Has anyone went to their FIRST state title and WON? Im sure its happened, just curious as to who has done it.

As much as I wish it weren't true, I agree with whomever made the comment about the west being a step above the east right now. The east has made a remarkable improvement from last year, and top to bottom were probably better and more competitive this year. However, regardless of whichever team, beechwood or mayfield, makes it, it's going to be a game the west will have to give away in order to lose. Both of them are just too dominant. Mayfield is just mayfield and always will be. Beechwood started out slow, but have beaten a Cov. Cath. team by two scores that just beat Johnson Central and almost ended up beating highlands a well. Beechwood also beat NCC by well over two scores and they'll most likely be in the state championship in 2A, and then last week they put a big time game on a Frankfort team that many had picked to go deep in the playoffs this year. The competition Beechwood has seen and beaten and the overall dominance of Mayfield is going to be very difficult for anyone coming out of the east. I do not by any means think it will a score like the east put up last year, but I do look for the west to win by at least three scores. It has nothing to do with the east not playing up to their level or anything like that, it's just that the teams in the east are just not at that level yet. With mayfield being gone next year and the east progressively getting better every year, I think they'll catch up quick. Just not this year.

The thing with 2011 was a combination of things. First we were banged up and just didn't have the same number of athletes that we had in 2010. Second, Hazard played a tougher schedule that year than they did in 2010 to prepare. Next, they had a better and bigger qb in 2011 than they did in 2010. Last, we were overconfident.
Now in 2014 the burg has played a weaker schedule this year, not preparing. Second, the qb this year isn't as good as Sizemore. If we make it this time we won't be overconfident because no one expected our new faces to be there this year. This after all is a rebuilding year for the Cards.

I also forgot, this year we have more athletes than last. We have freshmen that are capable of starting for most teams just waiting to get on the field. I'm talking dynamic skill players. It wouldn't shock me for the coaches to show them off in key situations this year. We have a qb that would make one heck of a deep threat wr. We have a Barry Sanders pinball type back that would be an excellent compliment to Bright. We have 2 receivers that are probably faster than the ones we are currently using. These are X factors that we didn't have in 2011.

Right now this game is about Williamsburg and Raceland.....mayfield this may be your last week playing in 1A. :Sad04:

All the talk about Griffith not being as good as Sizemore is kind of confusing. Going by their senior numbers ( only seasons you csn compare them) They are comparable if not lean towards Griffith, imo. Simply because Griffith does not have himself at reciever. Which is one less incredible target to throw to. Im not saying either one is better or worse. I just dont see where so much of the argument favoring Sizemore comes from.

Honest question old jacket.
What are the chances a petition could start to change the mascot of Wburg from the yellow jackets to the orange jackets? Im sure people would be okay with it and it would make a hell of a lot more sense.
Unless you still have a bunch of old cronies around I think it would be something cool and different. Ive never heard of orange jackets.
