Trinity 76 - Knott Central 70
#1
Great game Knott came from 16 down in 3rd to tie at 64 and 68, Trinity hit free throws down the stretch.Camron Justice led Knott with 44, Evan Hall with 12. Spalding had 18, Russell 14 to lead Trinity.

Heck of a ballgame!!!!!!!!

Very good game. I think Trinity is the best team in state. Not sure anyone can beat them on neutral floor. The D'angelo West kid didn't start tonight and probably lead them in scoring. I think once this Trinity team gets a few games under their belts w/ the new recruit they are a lock for a state championship this year. Cam played awesome. He was the best player on the floor. Congrats Knott! Nice showing for a Mountain team against the best team in the state.

Justice showed tonight that he is way more deserving of Mr Basketball than Spalding
#5
If they go off the body of work over 4 years Justice should be a lock for Mr. Bball. Just not sure that always happens. I sure hope he gets it because he is easily deserving of the award.

Great showing by Knott.

It's always hard to take a lot away from a scrimmage before the season starts... but if you were at this one you know it felt like almost like a tournament game.

Knott let the lead balloon a little bit in the second quarter and it hurt them, but Justice was out of his mind and Hall answered the bell when it came to taking on Spaulding.

Spaulding is D1 ready right now, just a little on the skinny side.

You can also throw the work he did while at East Ridge for his 7th and 8th grade seasons, when Raymond was the coach of the Warriors.

Justice is going to put up huge numbers this year and IMO he will win Mr. Basketball.

If he keeps up what he did tonight, the way he was baiting the defenders into fouling him on jumpers, he'll rack up easy points and stay hot from the field.

It also seemed like he moved a lot better with the ball tonight.

We should see some amazing stuff out of him this year.

Was that the only to teams there?

Justice is no doubt deserving of the Mr Basketball award but based on the last couple of years if KCC don't make it out of region or bounced out of the 1st round again than he won't win. I think Cam and Ray are the front runners.

Wait, didn't they change the rule last year were the Award is announced before the state tourney?
#13
Other games player earlier:
Lawrence County beat Wolfe County by 12 I believe
Lawrence County JV destroyed Wolfe County JV
Trinity JV beat KCC JV by 9
Trinity 76 KCC 70

Great atmosphere with pep band and cheerleaders. I would guestimate the crowd at around 3500.

Yeah.. It's announced,, or final before state tournament. They changed it to that years ago so a player that does OK throughout the year can't blow up at state and win it on that alone. At least that's my memory of it?
#15
Mr. Basketball is now announced before State Tourney - I think it should go back to the old format bc if a player does blow up in State Tourney and lead his team to some wins or the championship / that should carry some weight

Pretty good game overall for both teams. Trinity plays great defense. Really hard nosed. I think one thing that will really set T apart from everyone else this year is, there is no real drop in talent when they go to their bench. They can go 8 or 9 deep and not lose anything on the court. Great shooting team and you better not leave them open.

In the first half, it looked as if Knott had paced itself right out of the game.
In the second half, Knott bodied up on "d", were surprisingly quick and played like men. Hall's late fourth quarter leg cramps were testimony to Knott's
second half effort. Hall was very effective guarding Spalding in the second
half. He was able to body Spalding out of position (without excessive contact),
and he was getting great help from the team. Even though Spalding was rejecting most everything in the paint, Hall was able to explosively move and
power up for close baskets during crunch time.

Zaga is right about Justice. He's all that. As an older guy, I'm sayin' all you
Herbie Stamper fans better check out this year's version of Cameron Justice.
By the way, I'm a big fan of Stamper. Late in the game, Justice and the killer
quick guard from Trinity went head to head. Great stuff. Slight edge to
Justice.

Combs is quick and strong. Has a good handle. Like most young players,
his shot is still evolving. His first shot was contested and he had to adjust
in mid air. He wound up using his grade school heave. Nothing but
nylon with a perfect but not too long follow through. Made a few mistakes
and didn't waste a microsecond, he stayed in the flow of the game. He's going to be a good one. Solid at both ends. Good head on his shoulders.

Cornett and Christian are no doubt tired of hearing about role playing and
garbage baskets. They are relentless. They have solid skills. They are
men. They are the core of this team. Thirty years from now they will
still be kicking butt in dirt ball and working in good paying jobs that require
responsible people who aren't driven by praise.

Mr. King is a better coach than many of you guys give him credit for.
His team blocked out and rebounded, used man-to-man fundamentals
in their defensive schemes and took high percentage shots. In addition,
they took their time against pressure, full court and half court. I'm on
board. Knott has a decent shot at winning at Rupp. Perry Central will
be the perfect nemesis to prepare Knott for that shot.

Im surprised by Knott keeping it that close. All ive seen and read was that Trinity would have very little trouble with the field this year, but it appears that isn't the case.

The only thing I worry about is Justice putting up 44. What happens to Knott if Justice goes down? Either way, the kid put up 44 against Trinity. That's ridiculous.

I agree that 44 points seems to undermine team ball and shows a real vulnerability
in scoring distribution. However, I would be surprised if Justice shot less than 50%
last night. He played decent defense. Perhaps he could have fed the post more.
Late in the game Coach King drew up a play for Justice to feed Hall. Hall responded with
a strong move and score. Justice has a beautiful entry pass to the post. Trinity plays
tremendous defense. They're going to hold a number of teams under 60.

Even though Knott was pacing itself in the first half, it was obvious that none of knott's
players were responding well to the spotlight. Justice shouldered the responsibility and
got hot. He stayed hot in the second half. The team responded well to him taking over
the offense. By the end of the game, Knott's offense was pretty well distributed.

Trinity's defense was something to behold. And arguing against one player scoring
44 points is always sound. But sometimes....You know, I think Cliff Hagan might
have scored about 44 in the Sweet 16 final for Owensboro when they won it.

Not saying that Justice is Hagan or even that he is Goose Givens who scored 41
in the NCAA finals of 1978. Just saying that sometimes circumstances dictate that
a player needs to score more than usual to put his team in a position to win.
Could Knott have won if the other players were more involved? Maybe. And that's
what it will take for Knott to beat Trinity. But last night, down by sixteen(could have been 20) at half time, it looked as if Justice was the only player for Knott who showed up.
I was ready to leave. The real Knott County team showed up in the second half and Justice
stayed hot. I sat back down and watched. Trinity wasn't just gliding. They played
hard and looked a little confused at 64 to 64. They regained composure to win it.
By the end, Knott had completely taken away Trinity's advantage inside. Trinity
methodically moved the ball inside out and over to a guy who hit three three's to seal
the deal for them. Beautiful team ball. Trinity is the team to beat. Knott is knocking
on the door.

On a neutral court trinity probably wins by at least 15 points. Justice can shoot the lights out at knott. He can shoot anywhere but their especially. And trinity might lay different defense in tournament play.

I agree hitter! Not only that but Camron had an exceptional game. That performance is tuff to do 2 times in a roll against a team like Trinity. As I stated earlier in a post, D'angelo West is the next kid from Texas on this Trinity team and he almost lead them in scoring coming off the bench playing only 2 quarters. This kid can score it. Look for him to be in starting line-up as season moves on and Trinity will become better and better. Not sure anyone in the state can beat them at that point.

They have 5 division 1 players. Recurting does wonders espically in basketball.

I was in the gym and watched the game. Justice excelled with his game and provided leadership as he always does. I was disappointed with Hall in the first half with his conditioning and lack of attacking the basket. In the second half, he was a different player. He was in attack mode and played smart. This provided more balance for the Pats. Knott still fails to use a bench to provide short rest breaks for their starters. I thought Trinity played an exceptional game from start to finish. They used their bench as if it was a revolving door. Also, Trinity passes the ball better than any team I have watched. They make the extra pass that destroys most defenses. Spalding is a high quality player. I'm not sure he broke a sweat in the first half. He can put the ball on the floor, plays good off ball defense, and finish at the rim. Like Ballstar said, we have only seen a small portion of West. That kid can score. Not taking anything away from the Patriots, I believe that Trinity will be the dominant team in Kentucky high school basketball this year. And yes, I am a Patriot fan. It is what it is.

Sounds like this was the State Championship game in November from the way some of you talk and critique the teams. A lots gonna happen between now and March. I wouldn't get to worked up over a preseason scrimmage.

Exactly who do you think he can bump out of that lineup? His points were on wide open kickout threes, there are many on that team that can do the same thing.

Spalding, Levitch, Thenimen and Stafford are locks but the other kid isn't. West will take his spot as the season goes on. I believe West is the best scorer on the team and I think he will prove it as season goes on. His can shoot, get to rim and guard. I think West mins will continue to rise as season moves forward.

Justice brought it that night and yep,i'm a Patriot fan.One of the prettiest shots to ever take the floor at Hindman. Spalding coulda scored more if he wanted and didn't even appear to try.Justice still the man.You wanna be the man,you gotta be the man.Justice was the man! Justice served. More mashed taters please!!!

I would have loved to have seen this game

That will never happen, the "other" kid is the best defender on the team and if you know anything about Trinity its Defense first. West has a pretty shot but "get to the rim and guard" are debatable. Also missing the front end of the one n bonus late will not get u more minutes either while the "other" kid knocked down the four final pts from the line.
