North Laurel looking for first playoff win in school history.
Jim Black returns to Whitley County in what can only be called complete irony.
Whitley looking to win and advance on a season that's seen some highs and some lows.
Thoughts?

Knox played both teams so I can say that Im confident with my pre-game analysis.
Whitley county has a stud in Luke Woods. The kid does it all for the colonels. Whitley has decent size up front, and good skill guys.
How Whitley wins: Spread the field with formations, let Luke run wild. Oh, and play a little bit of defense.
North Laurel will be the heavy favorite in this game, which means they have everything to lose. They are solid from front to back, and play great defense.
How North wins: Power football. Run it right at Whitley and see if they can stop it. Also, keep an eye on Woods. Don't let him break 10-15 yard runs.
My way too early prediction: North wins a closer game than expected, 28-20

Not sure how Whitley does against a really good defense as NL. If NL can keep woods contained an limit his runs out of the back field NL will have a very good chance a winning this game. For Whitley to win they will have to find away to get woods loose and running and gunning the ball, and stop NL running attack.
NL 20
WC 14
NL has one hell of a kicker and he will be the difference maker, he will kickoff into the end zone every time. And will make at lest on fieldgoal of 40+ in this one.

NL has better athletes. Love for Whitley to win and Luke gives them a chance but believe Jags are a little better. North by 3.

I feel good today!! I think you're ALL correct!!
nicker:
North Laurel's kicker will make Whitley start deep in their own territory every single time.
Luke Woods is an excellent football player, and he will run wild!!
This is going to be a great game, but I believe North Laure pulls out the win.
North Laurel by 14!
Why is Black going to be back??

You're welcome:biglmao:. Go Colonels!

Jags will be able to contain Woods and force Whitley to throw the ball. Thus, creating some turnovers and giving the Jags the momentum to keep the crowd out of the game. Sorry GUT, Jags 27 Colonels 7!

Woods is very dangerous throwing the ball. He has had games throwing close to 400 yards. He is hard to contain because he can beat you with his arm or feet.

Depends on which Whitley team shows up.
If its the one im hoping, then Whitley will continue to dominate the metropolis of London.

Whitley can't decide to start playing just in the 3rd quarter trying to play catch up. If WC plays an entire game they win a close one BUT if not then NL wins big..

Depending on which Whitley team shows up will determine North's margin of victory. Whitley is a good team but their level of competition in the regular season has no way prepared them for the playoffs.
Whitley places all of their value on Woods and he's not faced a defense as suffocating at North's. It'll be interesting to see how he adjusts. Even if Woods plays lights out and North's defense isn't at their best, Whitley cannot stop the Jags on the ground.

I just have a feeling after watching North play a lot this year, their defense is going to be too much for Whitley. They just play so well as a defensive unit - they seem to be able to read the plays the offense is attempting to execute really well. They have a great kicker & punter that can put the ball about where they want it every time. Their offense could possibly come with something unexpected in this game too, they have the personnel to change things up a bit, we saw a twinkling of it in the last game. They have played a good schedule - lost three games by a total of ONLY 7 pts. I'm going to stick with the Jags, by 2 TD's in this game!

I will be the first to sign, I Top notch will sign right here That I will support any team in the Mts. Playing any team from where ever in any class reguardless of how I may feel about the other team, we are now in the playoffs and we are going to find reasons to hate our neighbor but, we are all eastern Kentuckians And I believe we are the best at anything we compete in.
The posters on BGS, from the ones I follow seem to be up front on their knowledge of the game and are quite entertaining. Lets get together and send all the teams our unconditional support. I love my Jackets and hope they get there but if they for any fail then I hope another Mt. School wins.

Out of curiosity, I did a little research on schedules. Combined record of North's opponents 43-55-1. Whitley's opponents 46-53. North played Knox Central, Southwestern, Pulaski, and Madison Southern that finished with winning records. They also played Claiborne, TN, Montgomery Co, Lincoln Co, South Laurel, Grant Co, and Wayne Co that finished below .500. Whitley also played Knox Central and Madison Southern, along with Bell Co, Rockcastle Co, and Letcher Central that had winning records. Pike Co Central finished .500, while Clay Co, Morgan Co, Perry Central and Harlan Co were below .500. Very comparable schedules, for what it is worth. I think this will be the best first round game in the area. Literally a toss up.

And Norths schedule has?
You played a very weak 2-8 Claiborne County TN team, a way down 4-6 Wayne County team, a horrible 2-8 Montgomery County team, and a horrible 1-8 Grant County team. We both played Knox Central which is decent, and both lost by 4 and 5 points.
We also both played Madison Southern, but we played with a fully healthy Damian Harris, and you did not. This suffocating defense you speak of hasn't played a passing team all year. The only times you did face a team that passed a little, you lost both games.
Ill be honest, I think North is the favorite, and they appear to have a better team, and they might even win by 3 or 4 scores. But it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't. Whitley is a much better team at home as well. North will score, as Whitley defense is suspect at best, but Whitley can put up 3 or 4 td's in a quarter, as they've done it this year a few times. Depends on how fast Norths secondary is. The difference in this game is the North kicker, whether or not Whitleys Oline shows up to play, and if North can stop the pass.
Its really that simple.

I didn't see your post before I posted mine. The one who compared the schedules are crazy. I see you were thinking just like I was.
Whitley could of still had Boyle and Morristown on there schedule this year instead of Pike and Morgan, and really made the difference, but had they played those two schools, would it have made them "more" prepared for the playoffs? I don't think so. It would have been pretty big defeats on the road that would have accomplished nothing. This is why I didn't mine buying out those contracts.

OK, two things:
You are going to base strength of schedule off of the wins and losses of your opponents? The best team that Whitley has played is Bell. Next would be Madison Southern but that's a tricky comparsion due to the whole Harris situation so we will call that a scratch and say its a tie between Knox/Letcher/Pike. And yes those teams have had some wins and some losses to some pretty good teams. But comparing wins of opponents IN NO WAY determine the strength of your schedule. If North or Whitley were to play all their non district games against weak teams who play in a weak districts, played cake schedules and all had records of 8-1, would they have the strong schedule then? Absoutely not. As previous mentioned. Whitleys toughest opponent was Bell who won 57-13. Norths has been Southwestern and Pulaski. With a 1 point loss to Southwestern and a 2 point loss to Pulaski (who at the time had Riley Hall, who likes to pass, and is better than Woods). Put either Southwestern/Pulaski against Bell, and Bell loses. Good games but losses nontheless.
But since you like comparing wins and losses, here are some numbers that I've researched.
Total margin of loss for the season
Whitley: 105
North: 7 (that's not a typo)
Average wins by each team defeated:
Whitley: 1.5
North: 2.85
Average wins by teams each lost to:
Whitley:6.6
North: 7.6
So there ya go.
So playing tougher opponents don't accomplish anything? How could it not make them more playoff ready? Maybe it is personal preference but I think teams should have to face adversity to see what they're made of to better prepare themselves. You wouldn't train a athlete to do things "easy" because doing things "more difficult" doesn't accomplish anything.
I don't have a dog in this fight, just a realist. Good luck to both teams Friday!

Jags plays as a team and don't depend on one player.
11-03-2014, 03:06 AM
Ok it's the playoffs, someone said "crazy things happen!" Case in point last year at Perry Central, in 1 play in the first offensive position we loose Gabe Blair & Zac Abner. Gabe brakes an ankle & Zac messed up a knee. Through the schedules out, it's a one game season now! The last 2 years thing haven't went the Jags way in playoffs. Third times the charm! Jags win in a close game and get the playoff monkey off their backs! Hope both teams brings their A games and no injuries!!
