Mayfield 40 Caldwell County 12
#1
Final.

Good performance by the Cards.
Playing like this, im not sure they get challenged.

Caldwell was 9-0 coming into this one.
#2
Nice win, as usual, by Mayfield. Sure looks like the road to the 1A title runs through Mayfield again.
#3
Congrats to Mayfield.

Defense wins!!!!!

they weren't expected to beat Caldwell that easily for sure.

I'm shocked by this. May field could have easily held them scoreless. One td catch the ball came out but was ruled a rd, the other may field let a receiver run down the field with no one 20 yards from him.

Help us all in the east in 1A or the west is week in all other class. Confusednicker:

64, chances are very likely that Caldwell will still be the 2a state champs.

I have no doubt Caldwell is better than the final tonight. I think they quit when we got up by 2 scores. May field was down to mccracken but won't quit.

You built Caldwell County up all week..Allmost had me believing Caldwell had a chance....Mayfield is my sleeper team in the west again sh@t. Confusedmoke:

Caldwell ain't a bad team. Beating Murray shows that. There problem is that is the only game they had had much of a fight in.
#14
Once again Killbilly, we won at the line of scrimmage. I believe someone mentioned that at breakfast this morning. The new defense also helped. That is correct for all talk who told me that we would not make changes this late in the year. We did and it worked. We still have a lot more changes we can make.
#15
Are you sure that wasn't one of the Guhy brothers at QB tonight? Arnett was phenomenal tonight. Clutch. And only a Soph. He showed no fear, and made Sindelar look like a rookie.
#16
Good coaching is an advantage. Those changes take a great staff.
#17
Let's not get carried away. Arnett looked better but, ain't no way he made Sindelar look like a rookie. Sindelar threw a lot of great passes. The receivers just didn't catch it. The line also kept him on the run.

Alright, I have heard so much doubt from the Cardinal faithful this year. I for one have spoken up all year and told you all what we had and have been doubted and by at least one that I was wearing rose colored glasses. Well here is what our boys have done this year.

We have played the same ten game schedule as last year. Last year playing these teams in the regular season, we averaged a game score of 45-21. This year the average was 39-10. That gives us an average of 4 points margin better than last year. That also shows that our defense is wayyyy better. Now we lost by 1 point to the #6 team in 6a. We beat #8 in 5a, #8 in 3a, #1 in 2a, #10 in 2a and #6 in 1a.

We held the #1 team in 2a to 12 points. This was a team that until that point was undefeated and averaging 57 points per game. I for one am very optimistic about our boys and would love to quit hearing the negative responses about our young Cards.

Just my opinion. But, one that I think these boys have earned. Yes, at times they may not do what the arm chair qb's think they should but, they do manage to win.

Caldwells a helluva team. Mayfield's coaching staff did a great job of game planning for the Tigers and made great adjustments at the half. Even though the Cards were up 14-12 at the half, it could certainly be argued that Caldwell outplayed them. Sindelar had 220 yds and 2 tds thru the air in the 1st half and Cain had 80 yds on the ground. CC also had 12 1st downs to 5 for the Cards, so, the score at the half way point was a bit misleading. The 2nd half, Mayfield took control, got the crowd into it, continued on with that momentum and it spiraled into a blowout. It happens sometimes. It amazes me how well prepared Mayfield always seems to be and how fundamentally sound they are. Doesn't matter if it's this year or last or the one before that, that's been the one constant you can always bet on. They have proven they can win in a shootout, a defensive struggle or about any other way you throw at them. They just find ways to beat you.

not likely.

After the way Beechwood handled NCC and MF rattling CC, that semi is looking like a dandy. As is the east and which ever of the top 4 (from the east) make it to the semis. 1A is goina be good come late november. I for one think the championship game will be great as well. 1A is very good this year, atleast within the top 5 or 6 squads, there are alot of 1A schools who could hang and compete with the top teams in atleast 1-3A.

KYHS, I was thinking your stats were skewed but I wasn't sure til I just got the Sun. Caldwell had 350 total yards. Mayfield had 461 total offense. Cain didn't have any yards on the ground. This is the breakdown:

Rushing
Boyd had 78
Sindelar had -28
Riley had 10

Passing
Sindelar 18-29 for 275

Receiving
Pepper 3-61
Cain 4-46
Boyd 5-41
Anderson 3-109
Young 2-8
VanHooser 1-10

Mayfield
Rushing
Bright 203
Arnett -1
Hernandez 11
Tyler 35

Passing
Arnett 10-16 for 213

Receiving
Bacon 6-89
Kennemore 4-124

I was just taking the stats that Lanny gave at the half. I admit, I said Cain and it may have been Boyd who had the 80 yards at the half. The majority of CCs yardage came in the 1st half. They didn't do a lot after that..

Heard the same stats on the radio at the half

55 , I'll be the first to admit I was wrong. I laughed at the fact that u thought cards win by more than 14pts, but since im being honest, after the last few showings by our offence you have to admit u were doubting a bit too! Im still in shock on this one! One blown coverage attempted sac with sindelar scrambling ten yards behind should had been the only score of the night for caldwell.. Their other score woulda recieved red challenge flags frome the entire cardinal stands.. a obvious drop on fourth down in the red zone was ruled a touchdown by offical .. WATCH VIDEO here

So with that miss by the zebra the score shoulda been a lil diff , but oh well.. im still in shock at how we played them.. me along with so many other card fans had this going the other way.. defense was awsome against a great team.. im not gonna say a 2a state champ but could be.. after a severe a$$ chewin last week our O line stepped up huge..if caldwell makes it past rivial murray they should contend nicely, I say that only cause murray knows them all to well..

for Caldwell to have a chance at winning state you will have to visit them and teach their linemen to not stand straight up and play patty cake.otherwise, they have no chance :thatsfunn

CAL and DeSales are favorites in 2A.
