I seem to remember a lot of people talking about how bad this coach was before the season started!! Sounds like he's done a pretty good job!

Congratulations Valley!

Congrats to the Wildcats, not only for their first ever district title, but for a quality win over a very good Fleming Co.

By my figuring, SV wins the district on the 3rd tiebreaker (adding in the best 4th win).
P-burg and SV each with 20 quality points through the best 3 wins. On adding the next win, SV has East Ridge (5 wins) to thank for the title.
They don't come much closer...

Ratliff is a great coach, but Stepp got the team to where it's at. You bring back the same staff except for Stepp. Anyone can call that offense. Heck even I can. It's not that hard. Rowe up the middle, Tackett outside, or Newsome on a out route.

Good job Valley. The Wildcats finish the season 8-2 and win their first-ever district title.
Throw out the records next week, it should be a dandy against Somerset.

By my account, the East Ridge win did not figure into the playoff tiebreaker. Here's what I came up with:
Valley: Paris (8), Fleming (7), Betsy Layne (6), Hurley (6) = 27
P-Burg: Hazard (8), Lawrence (7), Betsy Layne (6), Pike Central (5) = 26
So Shelby Valley wins the district by ONE point.

Shelby Valley played a great game tonight and earned a district title! Hats off to Fleming County, they played hard, were well coached and showed a lot of class.

What a big win for the wildcats . They played there hearts out against a VERY good Fleming Co. Team . Hope to see them make a little run in the playoffs . Nice to see a lil success for the football team in the Valley!!!!!! Congrats

I'm not even going to comment on the Stepp got them were there at post . Thes kids are playing a lot better football as a team for coach Ratliff then they ever did for coach Stepp . Don't try and take anything from this season from coach Ratliff and give coach Stepp the credit . Well maybe I am going to.comment on it !!!!

Still have got to get the fumble problem fixed . Valley had 3 last night . The only thing that helped was Valley had two interceptions and a fumble recovery to keep it even .

You have to remember...an increased likelihood of fumbles comes with the Wing-T. The ball handling, footwork, and timing makes it so. You just can't practice out all the errors. There are too many variables.
It's hard to stop, but that is its big negative. It's similar to the old-fashion wishbone of Coach Haywood's. There were many times in past years when Belfry (and P-burg wayyy back) ran it and fumbles seemed to be such a bugaboo for them in tight games.

I wonder how many teams still run Wing-T. I remember Whitley County used it, but it doesn't seem too common in the last few years.

A lot of teams run a hybrid of the wing T, or incorporate parts of it in what they do. Valley likes to run the power plays out of it, because that's what they do best. They can get the edge on you, and they can throw it a little. Makes it tough to defend them.

it is hard to defend if executed properly.

Yeah I agree with the fumble problems on the handoff running the wing T . But seems like are fumbles are after we've already made the handoff and in the field . But you are right when it comes to making the handoff with the wing T .

With the weather the other night I was shocked there were not more fumbles. The first quarter the rain and wind were terrible. One fumble came on a QB sneak and one came from the criss/cross handoff. Overall it was a well played game.

If Valley can keep from turning the ball over; they will be a very hard team to beat in the playoffs because they manage the clock very well when they have to. They beat on the opposing defenses and wear them down. (Most 2A teams play players both ways). And after their long imposing drives it makes it hard for other teams offense to pick it up and get the tempo out of the wildcats hands. Valley will be a TOUGH out in the playoffs.

Valley has a pretty good team, unfortunately for them, and everyone else in their district, each playoff game will be tough ones, because that other district is pretty tough from top to bottom. No breather rounds for them. They will have to keep everyone healthy to make a run at it.
