Harlan Co @ Letcher Co Central 10/10

I can read the stories now, how Gut and PJ and demarcus just used common sense to dethrone Highlands. They developed a Skylar Griffith every year in their middle school program and taught their receivers how to run like inner city kids and block like NFL tight ends for their running game and made sure to run 65 percent and pass 35 percent because that is the magical formula.

You'd be surprised how many high school coaches lack in common sense.
You see it every year. All kinds of talent and not any ideal how to use it.

Highlands would be old news in a world where we coached. Larkey 90% run ideology would only be used at the 3rd grade level.

When was the last time Harlan County had a good coach then?
Ed Miracle?

Me at Head Coach
Demarcus as strength and conditioning coach
pj doug as my offensive coordinator

Hell, id even put 64 as my "special" teams coach.
:hilarious:

I got out of this argument two weeks ago but being dragged back in it I will say the three of us would at least have a game plan. And yes common sense would win out because we understand that just because you aren't running it 99.99999% of the time doesn't necessarily mean running a spread offense with what everyone says we don't have the athletic ability for. It just means we will be balanced...Also if I'm the strength coach I would field the biggest, strongest meanest and fastest team you could ever imagine. Better believe that. Confusednicker:

I don't think a decent writer would say common sense, more like we used superior strength, precision and well planned offensive and defensive attack to destroy our opponent. Orchestrated by a brilliant coaching staff.

I only recall Harlan County being coached by Larkey.

Your memory is losing like being a 90% run team is.

talent getting wasted has been old. most people in East Kentucky would put Peyton Manning at running backConfusednicker:

You aren't that dumb. I said Harlan County, not Harlan County High School.

Just quoting your assistant, Doug, who said the plan should be based on "common sense."

If you do, you're older than me.
pjdoug Wrote:they were 7 of 9 with 71 yards passing and 2 touchdown passes in the championship game that they won 21-14.

They also had 200+ yards rushing. 71 yards passing isn't exactly throwing it around every play.

I must be older than you thenSmile
Patriot Wrote:They also had 200+ yards rushing. 71 yards passing isn't exactly throwing it around every play.

nobody said throw it around every play.I said a team needs to have the ability to pass to keep the defense guessing. passing every play is as bad as running every play.
^
So many EKY fans think by passing we mean throwing it every single down.
That's not what anybody is saying at all. BALANCE is the key. Its the only thing that's going to make a team dominant.
HDE Wrote:You aren't that dumb. I said Harlan County, not Harlan County High School.

:happytear:
I'm guessing there's been a few times The Black Bears have topped 71 yards passing.

2011 was probably our most balanced team and we lost in the region to Pulaski SW.

I'm just not one to jump off the bandwagon and start bashing everything Coaches do. HC has a young QB that when he learns the in and outs of High School football will throw it all over the field. And I'm okay with that, but when our running game wins us ball games I'm all for that too. Sure our goal is to make it to State but I'm not going to allow a high school football to cause me torment or grief because they are struggling I'll still support the team (players and coaches) through the good and not so good times.
Taking Harlan by 7 in this one
pjdoug Wrote:they would play Highlands closer if they started throwing the ball in 2000 instead of 2010.they were regional champs and not state champs like Highlands because Highlands is fundamentally sound and has a balanced attack.I don't know why east Kentucky people keep arguing over this and keep losing every single year to a team with ability to pass.seems like common sense to me that you cant move the ball against a good team that knows what you are going to do.

Dont think Harlan Co had Patrick Towles in 2010. Highlands has always had great QBs.

Let some of others play HC schedule
HAT51 Wrote:Dont think Harlan Co had Patrick Towles in 2010. Highlands has always had great QBs.

They sure didn't. Patrick Towles was taught from a young age to be a quarterback, while players at elementary schools throughout Eastern Kentucky thought a toss sweep was throwing it deep.
Patriot hit the nail on the head!!

While we are struggling in a lot of areas, I'm going to support this team until they play their last game! And the team includes the coaches, too. If a coach needs to be replaced, then so be it, but UNTIL that happens, they have my support!!

Our schedule has been brutal! Our kids have worked hard...and I know that as a personal fact. We were thin in some skilled areas, and the injuries have just piled on and on and on.

No excuses here, every team has this to deal with, or at least has the POTENTIAL to deal with these problems.

So, nothing that can be done about the past. I'm looking forward to a Black Bear victory on Friday night!!

Go Black Bears!!

So is the HS coaches at fault since the elem schools coaches dont know how to teach a kid to read defenses at age 8 and grow to be 6'4 230.
Maybe they should be handing out growth hormones for kids so everyone will have tall QBs and be like everyone else.
Game of the Week! Hope the weather cooperates for this one should be a good croud. Hope LCC comes out ready to play and limit penalites! I think the Cougars will be able to score, the question will be how well they can stop the run attack.

You're a die-hard brown nose aren't you?
Speaking of that, it is pretty amazing how many posts of Gut are followed by pjdoug with a like.
Harlan by 13 in a tight one!

That comment following a pjdoug "brown nose" post is just priceless!!
