Eagles informed us they didn't want to play our game tonight. Too bad for the younger guys. Bye week next week. 2 weeks off before playing CAL.

There will be a fine. But honestly the taxpayers will be the one paying it. Tonight was supposed to be homecoming also. Bush league move by FT Knox. Glad they are moving down to 1A next year.
10-03-2014, 10:11 PM
Did they give a reason why?
10-03-2014, 10:17 PM
They informed us halfway through our pep rally. Supposedly they don't have enough players. I guess half the team left for fall break. Unbelievable....
10-03-2014, 10:22 PM
This is bad for DeSales.

Heard it's because most of the players left for fall break. To me, that just demonstrates one of the things wrong with our society today. Nothing can separate people from time off/vacations. Not even the fact that they committed to be on the team and are now letting down the rest of their teammates who were actually willing to skip the time off and play the game.
The kids have been back in school for a little over 6 weeks and they already have to have a break. We're sure raising a nation of go-getters, aren't we? It's even worse that it's coming from a school on a military base. You'd think the parents there would at least have a little bit more dedication and commitment than average.

Sorry Desales. You got robbed.

Talk about commitment. Wow.
Guess the 0-5 record speaks for itself.

I dont disagree at all with what you have said however something to think about.
Think for a second about who were talking about, a military base team (mostly.) Whos relatives serving may just have that one week to come home, or to other relatives before returning to duty, and planed it during the kids fall break so they would not miss school.

Ft Knox used to be one of the better football programs. So did Ft Campbell. I wonder what is happening at these two places.
10-03-2014, 11:26 PM
Another thing to think about is how much more school these kids have now. I remember just back in the 80's, we started school after Labor Day and were out by the first week or two of May. These kids now have to start in mid August and don't get out until the last week of May or first of June. They have a lot less time off than we used to.
10-04-2014, 12:30 AM
Their head coach is pure class. He has had an extremely tough last few weeks and unable to attend practice. I'm not going to give details here because he may not want it released. Let's just say it involved two of his kids and makes you realize football is insignificant. Keep them in your prayers.
10-04-2014, 12:58 AM
Yeah, whatever . . . DeSales will persevere, lol.
10-04-2014, 12:59 AM
I heard the same thing...the head coaches kids got really ill and was in hospital for 3 weeks with a life threatening disease in which he, understandably, left the team during that time. After he came back he had 5 players quit the team during his absence along with 6 players to tell him they were leaving for fall break. Their fall break is almost 2 weeks. I wonder if it will affect the CAL game they have to play next week?
10-04-2014, 01:00 AM
Geez...that is a lot of stuff to go through.
10-04-2014, 01:03 AM
I agree. Screw the military families! We wanna see a 75-0 football game!!!!!!
Grr . . . grrrrrr . . . GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!
Crack the combination to your wallet and splurge for a little Viagra. It will all be okay.

Yes, he came very, very close to losing a son and daughter.

I be damn if I sit back and not say something about the people on here questioning the mom's and dad's serving our county allowing us to talk freely on this site. Please don't compare our men and women serving our country with this game being cancelled. If you do then get the hell out of this country!

This is very true. I know the coach personally and I know he will put his family above everything else. Very tough situation at Ft. Knox right now.

There is the same amount of school. There are just more breaks during the year.
10-04-2014, 02:58 AM
You guys are completely missing the point! A private school needed to play a quarter-and-a-half against a vastly outmanned opponent! THAT is the issue!
We can only hope (and they can pray) that the Colts' season goes on!

No, that's not exactly true.

Well 1st off these grown adults choose to enroll in the military just like some people choose to be accountants or lawyers. There is no more draft so being in military is an opition not a something that is mandated. Secondly they should of Atleast notified Desales earlier in the week. 3rd if you know your kids play sports then why plan vacations? Do things around their schedule not yours.
10-04-2014, 06:02 AM
I see why isis is blowing so much stuff up. Well guys it's fall break they will be here when we get back.
10-04-2014, 06:14 AM
You all know nothing about the military. You cannot just leave whenever you choose. Your unit (where you are stationed) gives troops R&R at the same time. (2 week period). Now, the only way you get a break otherwise is is if you go on temporary leave from the military, often times without pay. This is only granted when there is a death in the family, (close family) or another instance equally challenging to deal with. And cctiger, you should be ashamed of yourself for talking about our men and women who serve. I don't care if it is a choice now whether or not you want to serve. Thank those who do. Without those who do choose to make that choice, you and I would not be able to get on this website and talk smack about football daily. Next time you're out and about and see a man/woman in uniform, thank them.
That is all.
That is all.

I hate to see anyone forfeit. Prayers for the Ft. Knox coach and family.
10-04-2014, 07:21 AM
We also wouldn't be able to get on here and talk smack with our teachers who taught us abc's so the next time u see a teacher Panther you need to thank them.

A few things:
1) Fort Knox had 33 (THIRTY-THREE) players TOTAL to start the season. That's freshman, JV and varsity combined. And that's taking some kids who had no varsity experience whatsoever, or football experience whatsoever in general (FK's middle school, Scott, does not offer football).
2) Of those 33, only THREE were even on the FK roster last year.
3) Fort Knox isn't the Fort Knox of old when Legendary coach Joe Jaggers was there or record-setting Derek Homer was there.
4) Fort Knox used to have a rule where you could live off post (i.e. Radcliff, Vine Grove, Elizabethtown) and attend the school if your parents worked there. Rule was changed after FK's glory years. That's why you'll see a lot of their good kids, assuming they still around, end up at Elizabethtown, John Hardin, North Hardin.
5) Fort Knox used to also have a rule that you could retire and live ON post. No longer. So, see above.
6) Fort Knox has far more transient than it was back then. Very few kids are there freshman-senior years. Lots of turnover. Again, this is different from the 80s-90s heyday run.
7) Fall break at Fort Knox is different than many other school districts. Because FK kids (and their parents, their families) are so far removed from their families, fall break is about the only time to see them between the start of school and Christmas (unless they can swing Thanksgiving, if you wanna pay jacked up gas and flight prices). FK's soccer and volleyball teams, which have much smaller rosters, do NOT play a ton of games during fall break, either.
8) That being said, playing in fall break in general for Fort Knox would have been a tough task. It would have been nice for Fort Knox to have scheduled its bye week during that week, but you can't always do that do to KHSAA's district scheduling requirements (meaning you can't pick and choose which weeks you play your district games. ... like you could at one point in the 90s).
It would have been nice for Fort Knox to give DeSales a bigger heads up so it could move homecoming. However, it STILL couldn't schedule anybody (can't take a district forfeit AND play someone because you are only allowed 10 games). Just would have changed the timing of when they found out and possibly avoided back-to-back "bye weeks" (assuming another district opponent had the same bye week and they were able to play the other team and then move the other team's bye week).

Dedication and commitment? You're seriously going to bash military families for dedication and commitment? These service members that you talk about have dedicated a time in their lives where they can't see their families everyday.. They have to go to a place that they've never been, not knowing when the next opportunity will be they get to go home and see their families. They are committed to their respected branch of the military and to the United States of America.. If that's not showing what dedication and commitment is, the. I'm really not sure what is.. To think, they do what they do so that people like you can sit at home and get on the Internet and bash them.. You should be ashamed. God bless

Lol okay, to begin you do not enroll into the military.. You enlist or commision.. It's because of the people that took the oath and swore to support and defend the Constitution of the United States that there isn't a draft anymore.. 2nd and 3rd, you don't just have an option when you're in the military of when you want to take vacation when you want to.. Sure, sometimes it works out that way.. But majority of times, it doesn't.. You go home when you can, not when you want.. This is probably why there was not more of a heads up
