Raceland 47 Lawrence Co. 14

Do-double-gg Wrote:It's to late for that! Someone would have to take this team and start all over like they were in pee wee again and teach em how to block and tackle and play as a team. This team playing like this and going backwards probably won't win another game this year. We may squeak out a win against Sheldon Clark and that is a big stretch at this point.
Sheldon Clark-?????
Pike Central- loss
Belfry- Running clock
Prestonsburg- Running clock

Boy, some fan you are. After one loss, abandon ship!!!!! Here is what you can do:

1. Donate all your LC gear to Goodwill
2. Stop coming to games
3. Stop saying you are a "fan" of LC
4. Learn to coach so you can do a better job

Scotty_Bronson Wrote:The first drive LC had, they blew Raceland off the ball. And that was the extent of their offensive prowess outside of Mosley's score late in the game on Raceland's JV. Lawrence was enemic after that drive. As soon as Raceland went up one score, they went flat. I hate seeing that. I really expected a better game. Raceland played on a short field all night. Almost every descent offensive output from LC was negated by penalties.

From Raceland's standpoint, looked great defensively. Offensively was nothing flashy, but with defensive scores and playing on a short field, we didnt have to be.

No disrespect to Lawrence Co, I for one, was happy to see them to be back on the prowl of relevancy, but there is something bad wrong in Louisa. Too many atheletes, size, strength, and ability to look like they did last night. Lineman standig and watching and not finishing blocks, Dalton's jawing(Raceland had an issue with that from one of our kids as well, no excuse for that crap), all that coupled with everyone on the defense looking for a big hit and not wrapping up. Was really hoping that I was wrong but LC is moving in reverse. If it doesnt get better, Idk how much longer Cecil will be there.

Bob, should we bring up a certain baseball game JC played 2 seasons ago in the District against a HORRIBLE Sheldon Clark team? Would you want me to blast JC for that game? And who was the starting pitcher? HMMM....wonder what HIS father would think about that? Kind of like what you are doing here, putting salt in the wounds of FATHERS who sons played hard and got beat.

Doesn't matter dawgeers. I'm sure that his father has enough sense to know that sometimes things happen in sports. Whatever can happen in a ball game has no definition on what really matters in anything, be it good or bad. It's all just stupid little games that matter not about anything in the grand scheme of life. I think his dad told me that. But, If you recall it was the entire staff on that one particular day that had the exact same problem..That not true?..Anyways, I believe that same pitcher (and his same team mates) had a huge hand in also knocking off the #1 team in the state the very next year when it really mattered. Anyways, if you would acknowledge that the problem begins with these KYRocks, alumnuses, KingJames, batpuffs, etc. (the list goes on forever) that get on here and spew the constant barrage of stupidity, EVERYBODY would be able to take things a little more serious from the land where the Tug meets the Levisa....How about taking care of that problem first? The stuff that follows all has a way of taking care of its self after that..Put out a respectable product from the fan base, and I assure you, respect follows....Hmm, what say? ...I will give you credit however that you are one of the few that warrants a little respect....Now you understand where I've been coming from?

1804640]Let me say 1st to Scotty B. you were exactly right. LC is going backwards. Let me say 2nd Raceland has a very good team that capitalizes on opponents mistakes. I expected to watch a close game but the LC coaching staff could get out their own way. I do not understand how in the 6th game of the season you have 11 false starts. I do not understand a player who was ejected in a previous game keeps jawboning until he gets ejected this game. I do not understand a coaching staff that must be up to 20-22 coaches by now do not even attempt a hurry up offense. I do not understand why better defensive players were not used when there was still a chance but when the game is decided you put your QB in. Lc back to playing out of desperation. And the thing I am the most upset about, whoever was playing the pregame music with all the F'ing this and GD that needs to go. There is absolutely no need for that at a high school football game. LC needs to use the rest of this year to practice for next year. Congrats to Raceland and the best of luck the rest of the season.[/QUOTE]

I hope you understand my reasoning now in the other thread when I asked about what Cecil's punishment was? I've seen this same thing happen kill teams over the past 30+ years. My first coaching job was the OC at a good high school program. We had a similar kid. He was thrown out one game and suspended for the following week. However, no team punishment was given. He practiced with the starters and after his suspension he was right back as if nothing happened. Well, before the season the head coach gave a passionate speech about class and a no tolerance policy on that type of behavior. He was our best player and we were ranked #1 at the time. I'm assuming the pressure of winning got to coach? Regardless, from that point on the head coach lost the team's respect. He went on to get kicked out of three more games, and was passed up by college recruiters because of his attitude. Not only that, but as a team we lost the next 4 out of 6 games and went from being the state championship favorite to being a first round exit team that year. That kid is now a cashier at Big Lots and he's been fired from every single job he's had since high school. One team did take a chance on him and it lasted until their first scrimmage when he punched the QB during a pass skelly because he was upset at something. He never went back to school. Those kids never gave respect back to that coach because they knew rules only applied to certain people and if you were good enough he'd get you out of it. The parents finally pressured the administration enough to where they got rid of him the next season. All it would've taken was for him to stay true to his word and they could have not only won a state title, but it could've taught an important lesson to that young man about consequences and how to control your emotions. Maybe if he'd learned that lesson he would have been able to complete school and have a great college career? Instead, that one decision impacted that kids life as well as the rest of the team. I think Cecil is probably a good guy and he means well. He probably thought he could get through to Dalton without punishment? However, one thing ive learned is the only thing young kids pay attention to is consequences. If they know the consequences are there, then they tend to think about their actions more. Dalton was probably told by people and his peers how cool it was when he fought Breathitt, and after his coach didn't punish him(actually campaigned for him)he most likely assumed Cecil condoned his actions as well. I think Cecil has probably lost his team from a respect aspect. Based off talent and having home field, this game should have been very even. However, his players didn't show up for him. Its possible to turn that type of situation around, but it involves complete transparency and accountability to regain the respect of his team. I'm sure with that many coaches, there are several different ideas on what should be happening? In order to turn things around, the ideas need to be coming from one person. A coach should never let a player hear him talking about doing something other than what the head coach wants. It causes dissention and from what I hear regarding the game, their was a lot of dissention. I hope the Dalton kid gets a wake up call before he steps on his foot regarding his future.

I know I am new to this site, but I have been around this team and this bunch of young men for several years now. I do believe we have some good men coaching these boys. With the talent that is on this team there is no reason that we take a beat down like we did last night. Our defense was nonexistent, our offense was not any better. Not sure why the Quarterback looks off open receivers and then throws it to one that is double covered or gives a half hearted attempt at trying to catch it. And as for the Dalton kid, there is no excuse in all the jawing. If indeed he is out for the rest of the season (yes it will be a big loss for the team, because he is a good ball player) this team still has enough talent on it to make some noise. But Alan Short is going to have to get out of the way. no excuse in running the ball up the middle down 3 td. #1, and #24 are just as good or better than Dalton when it comes to catching a ball.
#67
What I enjoyed most about this when was the development of the defense in their ability to force the turnovers. The physicality we had to play with against Colegrove really made us play the same way this week. Two interceptions were forced throws but Young's interception towards the end of the game was a great play on the football. Offensively I really like seeing us capitalize on the mistakes that Lawrence County had made, which is something we had struggled with in the past. Our offense of numbers were staggering but it didn't have to be.

I only get to go to one or two games a year now after moving away. I picked this game to make the trip back to watch because I knew this would be a good and hard hitting game because it always has been. But neither one was the case last night. I agree with some of the statements about the coaching staff coach Cecile is a great guy and a decent coach by no means is he in the same league has Haywood but not many people are lol. But at this point of the season the tackling and false starts shouldn't be an issue but it is. They are drills that you can do to help with this. As far as all the other coaches let us remember that out of the 22 or ever how many they are only about 3 of them are on the pay roll. The rest of them volunteer to help they give there own time and a lot of it to try and help this program. Right now I don't think any of them have any of there own kids even playing. I see a lot of people get on here and tell how they need to be doing things but how many are willing to give up there evenings and weekends to do so. But with that said the head coach should look at his staff and make it very clear who is running the program and who should be barking out the orders when they are in the heat of the battle. I plan on making one more trip in this year and that will be the belfry game because these are my two favorite teams in the state. I do get to watch some great high school football here in northern KY but I miss the mountain HS football. Good luck to Raceland as I think they will go deep in the playoffs and good luck to the dawgs on correcting some basic fundamentals before district starts.

Good game Raceland. I'll say this, LC is a much better team than what you saw last night. The wheels fell off for the dawgs last night. Hopefully this is a wake up call. LC defense has struggled. The offense can't afford to turn the ball over. The only way LC is going to beat teams of this caliber is by out scoring them. It's gut check time for the bulldogs. This can still be a good season.
#72
I agree all is not hopeless in LC, but they definitely need to get back down to fundamental football.

Dalton talents should not allow him to act like he is crazy. I wouls suspend him for the rest of the season. He then could lift weights and get ready for basketball. If he doesnt want to do that then join fbla or ffa. They dont dhow favortism towards unskilled players. I thiught 2 ejections got you ejected for the season. If we cant beat raceland we wont beat the better 3A Schools. We have coaches who are not coached they are. Helpets. I wanna see what of the shorts get the head coaching job.

Sorry for 2 posts the same. I would like for the dalton kid to meet the lord. Too many fans brag about fighting on the field. They call that taking up for the team. Never fight. You wanna hit someone wait for the whistle on te next play. Its not all daltos fault. Someone has failed himbwith good advice. If he doesnt change he wil never help LC

You are right about it not all being Dalton's fault. This kid has never had to WORK for anything. Always been told how great he is, and that there isn't anyone on the field with his talent. In no way am I saying this kid isn't talented, he is, but If that is all you here you start believing it and you start thinking you can do whatever you want to and there will be no consequences. That is where the coaches and this community has failed this young man.

QUESTION:: can any one answer, who is really , the coach at L. C. Saw something at the game last night, I have never seen before. Two huddles, sometimes three, on a defensive time out. D. Backs in one line in the other. Can someone explain this to this ole dummie?

When I played an unsportsman like call got you benched for a quarter, a personal foul got you benched for the rest of the game, an ejection got you a 3 game suspension. These were all printed team rules given to every parent, player at beginning of practice for upcoming season. Violation of team rules, whether on field or off field, were immediate and made no distinction between starters or subs. During my time there was no OC/DC only the HC, and he was the final answer. Yeah we had position coaches but they did not dare breath a word during a game to any player. The HC controlled all win, lose or draw. LC head coach has allowed former players and parents of former players to infiltrate his sideline. Their only expertise is they played football for LC but they are given a coaching jersey even if they are a volunteer. They are perceived by players to be the "bosses" so to speak. When you watch the LC sideline, 5 or 6 different coaches will tell 1 LC player what he needs to do. Extremely confusing for players. When Luke Salmons was coach he had hand picked coaches that all had played college ball and he did not allow hangers on.

Are you serious? You think things will get better because we have a few wins up to this point? Look at the people who we beat up to this point, the same sorry people we beat last year up to this point. I really tried to get excited about this team, I really tried to give this staff a chance but I am seeing the same stuff every year from this staff and people can't say all that "coach is new so give him time stuff". If you were at that game last night you can't look a person in the eye if you know anything about football and say that was a well coached and fundamentally sound team. I am about sick of the learn to coach or do you think you can do better bull s$$t. I'm not a coach and I don't get paid to coach so no I probably can't do any better but how is that an excuse for the job that he is doing?

Welcome to the site! I think every person on BGR who has been here as long or longer then me can tell you that I was never big on the hire of Cecil. Not one person I know of has ever questioned the man's character. I am sure he is a good person, but just being a good person does not qualify you to be good at a job (coaching or otherwise). People are very quick to jump on here and try to defend the man when you question anything he does but those same people can't name one thing he has won or accomplished in the game of football. Since he came to Lawrence County the defense of this team has been it's weakest link and everyone knows it and it has got worse since he took the head job. I would not be so sure that at the point you are talking about that coach Short was even the one calling the plays. IMO everything coach Cecil has touched in the game of football has been mediocre. People said to give him a few seasons and see what he can do so I did and this game last night is what we get. He has had 4 seasons now to turn this program around and all we can do is beat up on teams who are worse then we are. At what point do we quit giving him a pass and making excuses? Coach Short is young but I think he is going to make one heck of a coach. I will still and never stop going to games and rooting for the Dawg's in everything they do and I support the kids but I have very little faith in the coaching of this team. You want your coach to be a good person and role model to the kids but at some point you need to show some results on the field and there are plenty of people out there who are good people and good role models and very good football coaches all at the same time.

Here are the coaches. Joey Cecil,, Alan Short, Bryan Short, John Caudill. Ex players who help. Where good too. Shane Pack, Kyle Carter, Travis Hughes. The rest fans with better seats than me. Shane Pack could be a good coach. Maybe a few others. Maybe a great coach somwhere in the mix. Just trying to lighten the mood. All of them seem dedicated especially thode who dont get paid. Dougie is the most dedicated but not a coach. Way too much confusion. We have more coached than ky.
#89
If you was at the game last night, it was obvious the Coach Short was calling the plays. Down almost 3 scores before halftime and instead of trying for a quick strike before half and then get the ball after half, we try to run it up the gut. Not saying there isn't a time or place for that kind of play calling, but it isn't when you are getting hammered. He has a ton of talent in his receivers and tight end and hardly even tries to involve the two of them, not even one pass to the tight end that I remember, and only 1 to the other wide out.
#90
Cecil had the man up stairs take his crappy personality and throw it aside. Randy Anderson led him back to the Lord. Before that i thought they hired him to holler at everybody. He acted like he owned the gym and fought hard to keep everybody out. Last few times i talked to him he was. A changed man
Hope him the best
