Top Ten 1a games of week ending 9-20-14
#1
Well, we have another great slate of 1a games this week in 1a football in Ky. It's easy to get excited about this week of football. So without further ado, here we go:

1) #6 Franklin Co 5a @ #6 Beechwood 1a
This game here should have all of 1a watching. This one will give us a pretty clear understanding of how 1a region 2 could shape up. Both of these teams are highly thought of across the state. This was a tight one last year with Franklin Co edging out the Tigers at home 28-24. They both appear to be offensive powers with each averaging 38 points per game. Franklin Co looks to have the better defense only allowing 9 points per game, while the Tigers are allowing 29. Franklin Co is perfect on the year at 3-0. The Tigers are somewhat disappointed with their 1-2 start but, it has been to stiff competition. According to the Litkenhouse Ratings, Franklin Co holds a large advantage at 115.1 to 81.1. This will be an exciting one.

2) #12 Fairview 1a @ #7 Hazard 1a
This game here should go a long way towards determining how the east side of 1a should shape up. Both of these teams figure to have a say in who represents the east side and are the dark horses. Last year Hazard benefited from some off the field issues to pick up the 1-0 win in this one. I think it was won on the field by the red and black clad Eagles though. Fairview comes into this one at 2-1 with a Lit rating of 77.8. They are averaging a score of 42-27 per game. Hazard comes into this one at 2-1 with a Lit rating of 89.4. They have an avg score of 45-32 per game and should have their head coach back for this one. This will be an exciting atmosphere. I wish that I could be there.

3) #1 Mayfield 1a @ #14 Graves Co 5a
You talk about electric atmosphere, if you have never been to this meeting, you need to come out. The entire community will be out for this one. Mayfield has won 75% of their meetings, but the Eagles always play it as their Super Bowl. Last year Mayfield was unstoppable, winning 49-21. This year the Cardinals come in 2 points away from being perfect at 3-1. They avg a score of 38-17. They have a Lit rating of 127.8. Graves Co is still trying to find themselves and come in at 1-2. They have a Lit Rating of 88.9 and avg a score of 25-27. They have a large power back in Cody Crider that will test the young Cardinals defense. This should be a great one.

4) #1 Belfry 3a @ #5 Pikeville 1a
This should be another good one. The Pirates have pretty well owned this match up of late. Last year the Pirates took it to the Panthers 56-20. Belfry comes in at 3-0 and has a Lit Rating of 124.7. They avg a score of 31-11. The Panthers are also perfect at 4-0 on the year. They have a Lit rating of 102.9. They avg a score of 51-24 per game. This should be a really electric atmosphere with standing room only.

5) #9 Holy Cross @ Valley 4a
This here will be an overlooked but great game. Last year Holy Cross edged Valley at home 28-26. This year they look to be on separate paths though. Holy Cross comes in at 3-1 with a Lit Rating of 106.6. They have an avg score of 29-21. Valley has played a stiffer schedule and comes in at 0-3 with a Lit rating of 63.3. Their avg game score is 9-37. I expect this one to be much closer than expected though.

6) Ky Country Day 1a @ Iroquois 5a
This should be another nailbiter. Last year Iroquois edged KCD 14-7 at KCD. This year KCD comes in at 2-2 with a Lit rating of 60.7. They have an avg game score of 22-19. Iroquois comes in at 4-0 with a Lit rating of 82.3. They avg a game score of 37-11. This one should be rocking as well.

7) #2 Williamsburg 1a @ Newport 2a
This should be a pretty good game here if you go by the Lit ratings. The two come in with a Lit rating of 100.9 each. That is about where the similarities end though. Williamsburg comes in perfect at 4-0 averaging 48-15 per game. Newport comes in at 1-2 averaging 26-30 per game. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

8) Caverna 1a @ Clinton Co 2a
This should be a good game between two teams attempting to build programs. Caverna edged Clinton Co at home in this one last year 20-19. This year they would come in as a slight underdog though. Caverna comes in at 2-2 with a Lit rating of 40.4. They average a game score of 27-38. Clinton Co comes in at 3-1 with a Lit rating of 43.8. They have an avg game score of 33-21. This is another chance for Caverna to improve upon their record for the year, as they continue to improve.

9) Western Hills 3a @ #2 Frankfort 1a
This could be another good one here. Last year Frankfort won this one on the road 31-14. This year Western Hills comes in at 2-1 with a Lit rating of 80.0. They avg a game score of 36-23. Frankfort comes in off a tough loss at 2-1 with a Lit rating of 103.4. They avg a game score of 30-18. This looks to be a great game.

10) Dawson Bryant (Coal Grove) Oh @ #8 Raceland 1a
This should also be a great game, and if I had more info on the out of state team, may very well have warranted at higher position. Raceland beat Coal Grove on the road last year 42-33. Coal Grove comes into this one at 2-1 averaging a score of 43-13. Raceland comes in at 3-1 with a Lit rating of 95.9. They average a score of 39-15. This should be a great game as well.

Well, there you have it. Another great week in 1a football in Ky.

Keep the good work up mysonis55....1A will miss you next year....:worthy:
#3
Thank you sir. Still 1a for now.

I probably should have put Pikeville/Belfry ahead of Mayfield/Graves co. I was reluctant to do so because of the results of Pikeville/Belfry over the past few years.

BGR fans understand 55.
#6
I think it could be a better game this year.
#7
I do too. Pikeville is alot better than I thought they would be, and ai picked them to go to BG from or side. I hate to say it, but other than the Ashland game(now i am queationing how good Ashland really is) i have been under impressed with Raceland. In each of their games, excluding the Tomcats. Tu have had the ability to have a running clock in the 2nd quarter. Yet something always happens and we go lethargic in the end of the half and into the first half of the 3rd quarter. Maybe its just the feeling of playing inferior opponents, but they must get that out of their system. Right now, imo, Pville and Wburg r 3-4 tds better than the Rams. We have a long way to go.
#8
there is still plenty of time to get things fixed.

Who is living in the past? I'm telling you, right now Pikeville is the front runner. They have played a tougher schedule and have had better results in that schedule. I sure hope your boys aren't overlooking them like you are.

That's for the link pjdoug, Skylar is so special...
#24
They look a little better than last year. I still think as of right now Pikeville is the front runner in the east. Just let us worry about the west 64.

he sure is. he is fun to watch.

Love your stuff on this 55 but Pikeville vs. Belfry is the top 1A game hands down.
#27
You have a very good case for that. I just can't get past how long it has been since the Panthers won this matchup and how lopsided the wins have been. Trust me, I would like to have more faith in the small school team.

So you're looking for a close game. Not a good way to judge how big the game is IMO. As good as Mayfield has been, how many times would they have beaten Belfry in the last 10 years? This game is much bigger than Beechwood and Franklin Co. ever was and ever will be.:truestory:
