There are a lot of schools that have very small coaching staffs and do not get much media coverage from radio, newspaper or tv and there are simply not people to do it. By the time coaches do all the film work and prep for the next game, taking more time to go back and stat a game is not the priority.

I think it should be a requirement. How can you say a kid is leading the state if you don't have all the stats to go by.

It is mandatory, starting this season, that stats are reported within I think 48-72 hours after the completion of the game.

:lame:I don't buy that either. Takes maybe 15 minutes. If Head Coach don't want to do it Assign it to an Assistant. People like to look at them, I always had them posted when I coached.

I was surprised to see us with any top stats considering who we have played. We have 2 backs, a rec and a qb in there.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read. Some schools don't have a stats person. Coaches are need to spend time getting their team prepared, not hours taking stats off of film. Statistics are for fans, which are meaningless. Colleges recruit off of film. Statistics should NEVER BE MANDATORY.

:what: planet are you from..... eriously: stats has been around over 100 years...I think. :Sad04:

used to be you had till seasons end to report. I know during JJ Judes senior year Johnson central did not report till after the season. So the Ashland paper and some posters kept an unofficial mark till he break the state record
09-11-2014, 06:36 AM
That is correct though. The recruiters are not gonna go to khsaa website for stats to decide who the are gonna recruit.

You sound like a coach who has know control of assistants coaches just saying...Attack you're :welcome:

Supposedly the KHSAA has :rules: about stats.
09-11-2014, 11:46 AM
In my opinion, most coaches and assistants don't have time for this. Contrary to some prior posts, it IS very time consuming. Once someone does compile all the stats from a game, someone (with a KHSAA log in account) has to sit and enter each field for each player. Just the entry part of this usually takes 40 minutes to an hour if you're detailed. I know some cases where it's a parent who does this part of it. You have to remember, at least where I'm from, these coaches are also teachers. Our coaches start at 6:30 am and end there day around 7:00 pm usually....and they have families. That extra hour a week means a lot to them...perspective.

For what a coach gets paid submitting stats are low on the priority list. Not to mention just to get someone to take them can be an issue at some schools.

They make a stat book, easy to keep. The Newspaper Sports writer kept mine and did a wonderful job. He had all he needed when game was over plus we had stats on game. I don't understand Coaches not wanting kid to get recognition.
09-11-2014, 01:49 PM
Make all the excuses you want for not keeping stats, those excuses are cop outs. They need to be kept and reported to KHSAA.

Here is the contact # to turn in those teams not reporting stats.

I've noticed radio announcers for a lot of teams always announce the stats at halftime and at the end of the game.simply post them to KHSAA . it's not the big job some people make it out to be.it doesn't have to be the head coach keeping stats. I'm sure they could be easily obtained from media that is keeping stats.
