Been reading several sites on this topic and surprised no one is coming down hard on administration! AD, Principal, Super., ect. These people should be held accountable.
All this crap about not going after the large schools kills me too. These are the schools a lot of people would love to see fall, you do not think they (might be some who do not) follow every rule very close! I know (very close follower of Highlands and friends with many of coaches in different sports there) at our school it is crazy how much they worry about every little rule and in every sport not just the big male sports! I think these small schools are being nieve and thinking they can get away with it and this is why they are the ones the KHSAA is coming down on.

The situation at Cordia is completely different.
Knott County Schools LEASE Cordia as part of their school system, even though they are a privately owned school.
The Superintendent and Athletic Director had nothing to do with this.
As a matter of fact - I would bet both of them probably danced a little jig when they heard about all of this.

Who was responsible? Sounds like no one and that is where the problem is! They should not be allowed to continue with sports until someone is put in place to police it!

I wanted to mention that Rod Rhodes said something on his Facebook like..
"Well the good news is at least Knott cant beat us again!! Thanks for the support"..
He looks dumber than hell saying something like that. What a clown.

Do you think Knott Central would let these out of country kids transfer in and play them after all the turm oil of the past 2 years??? I think they would, The alagations of the past is called not letting little brother get ahead of big brother I know their a lot of recruiting going on but its going on all over the region and state. Whats your take on it?

Their more going on their than college, But I will say this there is other places in the state the KHSAA needs to look into this makes 2 small schools that have got stiff penalties the past 2 years Fairview they the KHSAA needs to look at the big schools also.
Ballboy you know that will not happen can't bite the hand(s) that feed you....lol these small schools become issues when they win games they are not suppose to then the dog cry instead of fight.
THE SYSTEM is skewed up...... i have said it and will say it again the lower 10% should be granted freedom to recruit it not fair. That would scare everyone!!!!

Hazard, Knott Central and Perry Central are guilty of the same thing Cordia just got in trouble for. Cordia just did it on a whole different level, but if they are going to punish 1 school they should punish them all. Wrong is wrong, it dont matter what school it is. Since KHSAA has started the investigation process, they need to look at all of the 14th region.

Really??? Knott County Central says otherwise. As far as the dog crying, I think the little school called Hazard only had tears of joy in their eyes in the 14th Region Tournament.
I know a lot of schools recruit & such, but not to the extent of what Cordia has done. After all I have seen from Rod I sure wouldn't want him mentoring my child nor should you.
I truly feel sorry for all the kids involved in this, but the adults who are responsible should be punished to the maximum extent. They simply thought they where bigger than the system and could do as they pleased.

I don't understand how the fault for this stops with Rod Rhodes. Who was footing the bill for all of these antics and signing off for all the travel and other expenses they accrued? Someone had to know about these things and they should also be held accountable, unless Rod was given carte blanche by Ms. Whitaker. In my opinion, they need a clean sweep on the creek before they start any recovery for the program!

You are 100% right. You are asking the same questions I have been asking but can not get any answers. So far the basketball program was given the death penalty which hurts kids now and probably for a long time. You give a school a big fine and that money could go towards bettering their academics. But I have heard of no adults who were guilty of huge wrong doings having to pay for their crimes. Is no one going to lose their job over this? Is Rhodes going to be allowed to coach in KY again? Does not even sound like Rhodes has been fired. only the kids who had nothing to do with it are going to pay.

A lot of the money violations were allegedly committed by the "Lotts Creek Community School"...
Could someone please explain the difference between Cordia and Lotts Creek Community School?
I thought they were one in the same - but that is incorrect.

No doubt about it.
I think the KHSAA news release said something to the effect of "Evidently they don't have anyone down there enforcing the rules".
Situations like these should be handled the same way education is at the state level. Breathitt County Schools had a pattern of bad management so now they have a state manager that they pay to make sure they do everything the right way. Imagine if the KHSAA sent someone down to Cordia to line them out, everybody wins IMO.

It doesn't. Everyone involved is at fault. He simply thinks he is untouchable. It doesn't seem he his even taking any of this serious.

I don't believe that for a second. Look at both options to this. 1 - They did know and should be held accountable. 2 - They didn't know and at this point you wonder, why would the AD not know this was going on? The fact that he wouldn't know tells me he is an oblivious AD and has no business running an athletic department. It's a lose-lose either way for the entire administration in my opinion. So it's simple, specifically toward the AD. If he knew, he should be fired for allowing it. If he didn't know, he should be fired because he's not capable of doing his job.

They did know about it - EVERYONE knew about it.
The kids stay in "dorms" beside the school for goodness sakes.
What I'm saying is that Cordia is only partially funded by the state so they conduct their own business. The SI and AD at Knott County Schools are worried first and foremost about Knott County Central being taken care of.
Little brother Cordia had to fight Knott County Administration to get all of this done. They had to file their injunctions in Franklin County Circuit Court because they wouldn't take them in Knott County if I'm not correct. I also heard tale that the school board tried to block the foreign exchange students, but Cordia did extra paperwork to get around it.
I honestly don't know 100% of what is going on - only what I hear around here.
But I can would bet the farm and my wife's wedding ring that if anyone at the Knott County BOE could have stopped what was going on, they would have stopped it just to keep Rodrick Rhodes from ever beating Knott Central.

Sorry it's taken me this long to comment on this situation. Zaga is 100% correct. Knott Co BOE did everything they could to shut as much down as they could because they, like everyone else, could see what was happening here with Cordia and wanted to disassociate with it best as they could.
And to the post that claims knott perry and hazard are guilty of the same things I simply reply with a no.

Zaga you are right on everything you said. I'm a Cordia fan, was a Cordia fan long before Rod ever made it to UK to play for Slick Rick and I will be a Cordia fan until the day I die. I graduated from there, and my child goes there. I'm not making ANY excuses for this crap going on. To be honest, I hate it. Am I surprised? No. I was expecting it. I know well enough through the school of hard knocks that if you thumb your nose at someone enough times they are going to make you pay. A lot of people know who I am around Cordia, and I will tell anyone of them how I feel. It was a fun couple of years though.

Was it worth it! The program took a huge hit and the kids are the ones going to pay for it. How long do you think it will take to get this program back up and running? I believe it is going to take a long time and the kids not involved are the ones who will suffer.

I was telling a family member the other night that this will destroy the basketball program probably forever. I don't see any way a team can ever be put back together that will be competitive. For starters, what kid is going to come back there and just practice next season. No games. Then the next season just regular season games and no tournament. If I was a kid I wouldn't just to be honest. Look at Rose Hill. If I'm not mistaken, their program has tanked after Mayo and Walker left town. Maybe my statement wasn't the best statement I've ever made...but sometimes I make mistakes. I'm trying to be realistic here.
08-01-2014, 12:45 PM
And just to make myself clear...I do feel bad for the kids. In the end they are what it's all about. As an observer of all sports, I realize that adults have destroyed youth athletics. Not just in this situation, but in all forms of athletics.

I do not think I would use the word "destroyed" but do think you have a point. Biggest problem is adults trying to make a lot of money off of kids and parents who think their kid is going to be the next Olympic athlete. Good example is soccer where all these clubs have "tryouts" (they are a joke because if you have the money the club will find a spot on a team for you), and make parents feel like their kid is better than all those Rec. kids just so you give up your money to them. Do not try to tell me that for a fall session of soccer that cost between $1200-1500 dollars, that some adult is not making a lot of money off the kids (and that does not count cost of Uniforms and tournament games). No way it cost that much for a soccer team! Some adults years back have just coned us in to thinking your kid is better than anything a rec team has to offer and now has all the same kids from rec paying big bucks and call it select soccer so parents feel good by telling everybody my kid made a "select" team.

"Destroyed" was used in a generic sense not a literal one. And I'm not trying to be stand offish either. I'm not wearing black and gold blinders. I don't know if leaving KHSAA and going private is the right move or not.

Its just wrong! I stated in another thread that the refs would not allow cordia to win and they wont. This is still a very proud region very proud people wont happen not in ky period. other teams do some of what cordia did but geez not near the extent and the rest dang sure dont rub khsaa nose in it. just stupid way cordia went about it all
