I cant figure out why no one on Lotts Creek did not see this coming, The Death Penalty No Games for the upcoming season and No postseason for 2016 either. Who is the AD at Cordia???? Their more going on their than college, But I will say this there is other places in the state the KHSAA needs to look into this makes 2 small schools that have got stiff penalties the past 2 years Fairview they the KHSAA needs to look at the big schools also.

I'm assuming they appeal and they are denied...
just like they have with all of the players that were ruled ineligible.
But they always filed a court injunction and got a restraining order against the KHSAA to allow the kids to play - I'm just wondering if they can do that with these sanctions.

What happens to principle, AD, and super. They should all loose there jobs because ALL knew what was going on? Would any of those players think about coming to LCC? Football, baseball, and many other sports. Just a observation. Kids have to be taken care of one way or another. They was dragged in this mess and deserve to play.

Maybe one or two of the kids stick around here - but I think most of them go home.
Another question:
The kids that were deemed to have received improper benefits - wouldn't that make them ineligible to play in general?

Got a feeling the main ones in question are already out the door and did little to stand by the Cordia doorstep. Sounds like the KHSAA are less interested in sanctioning the kids and only the school which is the way it should be. All who return and have eligibility I believe are ok to move to other schools at the point beyond the 8th grader maybe from last season. I've been told two might be off to Haz from an old teammate who still talks to them.

Statement from Cordia.
Quote:"We have no comment at this time on the KHSAA sanctions. We are handling this matter through our lawyers, due process, and the courts to rebuke this unfair, unjust, and unprecedented ruling. We are going through the proper appeal process and will be going through the courts, because clearly the KHSAA has no interest in being a fair and unbiased authoritative governing body."

Would be more interesting to find out if the KHSAA reported said infractions to the NCAA which would jeopardize armature status for two players I would think.

If it were overturned in a local court, I would love to see the KHSAA actually stick to its guns and appeal the ruling so it could be tried in a higher court somewhere outside the 14th Region. I really wish that bill had passed in the state legislature requiring all eligibility case challenges to be heard in Franklin County courts instead of local courts where elected judges just hand out favorable rulings to local schools.

All of Cordia's injunctions have been ruled on by the Franklin County Circuit Court in favor of the school.
However, I do believe the KHSAA appealed to a federal court on the last batch of transfers.

Will this have any effect on the slew of transfers getting ready to change schools in a week or so?

Everyone Please stop saying this!!! There is not another school anywhere in the state where this goes on!!! This is way beyond recruiting!!! Please read the following infractions carefully!!!:please:
Falsifying records, or maintaining inaccurate records with regards to living arrangements of transferring student-athletes;
Allowing a staff member to lease housing to the family of a student-athlete without ever receiving payment;
Impermissible contact with multiple student-athletes with the intent to sway them to enroll at Cordia for the purpose of competing in athletics;
Providing free transportation to relocate a student from an out-of-state school;
Providing plane tickets on two separate occasions to a student-athlete so he could travel out-of-state;
Facilitating housing for a student-athlete at no cost to him or his family;
Providing money and clothes to student-athletes;
Conducting tryouts for non-enrolled students;
Paying the entire cost of education for two students on an F-1 exchange VISA to attend Cordia;
Providing housing to numerous students that participated on the boys’ basketball team, as well as housing for their families;
Allowing ineligible players to practice and compete in contests before they were cleared to participate;
Requiring players to attend practice prior to the official start date for preseason practice (October 15), and disciplining students who missed these practice sessions;
Holding “open gym” practices that were limited to the boys’ basketball team and thus mandatory, following the elimination from the postseason; and
Failing to properly monitor the coaching requirements for individuals coaching in the boys’ basketball program, including the obligation to complete the legislatively mandated Sports Safety Course. These violations included a 30-day period during the 2013-14 season when no member of the coaching staff met the requirements of Bylaw 25. -

You have to keep in mind that Cordia broke A LOT of rules. Do all other schools do 100% of what Cordia did? No. But I guarantee that other schools do at least 25% of what Cordia did. If they say they don't, they're lying to you. It does happen everywhere, just not to that extent. Every school breaks a rule. No one is flawless. The problem is that the KHSAA won't discipline every school that breaks a little recruiting rule because they wouldn't have anyone eligible to keep their monetary flow rolling. Simple math and sticking it to the big one to keep everyone else at bay. Cordia was the fall guy for what is essentially a way bigger problem.

Apparently,, from messages I received from Brandon Bender last night as he took time to try and hammer me on FB. He's not shady and all the stuff Ive said about him is made up. Lol,, think I pissed him off. According to him he's squeaky clean.

Please, take the time and read the infractions. I doubt that there is a school in the state that has committed or commits more than two of these infractions!
Maybe this one: Impermissible contact with multiple student-athletes with the intent to sway them to enroll at Cordia for the purpose of competing in athletics.
Or maybe this one: Holding âopen gymâ practices that were limited to the boysâ basketball team and thus mandatory, following the elimination from the postseason.
Both would be impossible to police!

Not even close.
Here is Cordia's roster from last year.
Zeke Biallas
JJ Catchings
Richard Chapman
Ajenee Chisolm
Austin Combs
Justin Cornett
Christen Cunningham
Felix Frimpong
Oumar Keita
Fritz Lucien
Josh Ortiz
Corey Smith
Anthony Tagaloa
TEN of those kids were transfers... not three... not four ... not five... not six... not seven... TEN
Then you throw in that they may have violated some or all of these violations with each of them - I doubt that any other school is coming close to a tenth of what Cordia got away with the last few years.
Hey - I'm all for competition and I'm gonna miss seeing these kids compete... but Cordia is part of the KHSAA and they agree to abide by those rules if they want to play against other schools in the association.
07-29-2014, 11:12 AM
Someone made a good point earlier....with money given, etc, wouldn't they also have some trouble with the NCAA? And if this involves one of the transfers that played during his only season there, it's no surprise as the name has had nothing but trouble follow and bring others down in their wake, and/or hurt others. Absolutely amazing.
07-29-2014, 11:12 AM
I love it......and just to think that all this went on and Cordia couldn't even get to the finals of the Region.....It was said all last year that Cordia would regret hiring Rodrick Rhodes.....but their fans were in denial......I think anyone who had any dealings with the athletic department should be fired...and Rhodes shouldn't be allowed to coach in Kentucky again. It isn't fair to punish the school and kids....and not inflict punishment on the coaches. Just my opinion.

One question remains. What now? Even after all this is over one way or another, how does Cordia even come back to normal after this?

Ummm... Cheating is bad... um-k.
If you're gonna cheat... Cheat to Win as Eddie Guerreo would say. When you can't even win your district and get beat out in the 1st round of the regional tourney.... sounds like they were eating potted meat (getting the leftovers)

That's why it is called the death penalty.
Cordia will have to rely on the talent in Lotts Creek.

I'm certain Cordia had some seriously shady stuff going on, but I have some legit questions about some of these violations
Allowing a staff member to lease housing to the family of a student-athlete without ever receiving payment; Facilitating housing for a student-athlete at no cost to him or his family; Does this include family members? A coach lets his cousins move in to a rental he owns, doesn't charge them cause they're family
Providing free transportation to relocate a student from an out-of-state school; Does that apply to a coach living in a neighboring state that coaches in Kentucky and has a truck that helps a friend and their family move 15 minutes away to a house they just bought in his school district in Kentucky. A year later, he's coaching a kid from that family.
Providing plane tickets on two separate occasions to a student-athlete so he could travel out-of-state; Poor kid who wants to go to college, but his family can't afford to send him on a visit to a couple of schools he's really interested in
Conducting tryouts for non-enrolled students; 7th and 8th graders
Allowing ineligible players to practice and compete in contests before they were cleared to participate; Situation where player was granted, but later denied for mistake on KHSAA's part
Those scenarios have happened at many programs across the state where the KHSAA investigated and found no wrong doing. Some of the other violations have some gray area to it that also puts that program in the clear. With recent punishments to Fairview and Cordia, do you think the KHSAA will start cleaning up some of the bylaws?

The Cordia sanctions stem from blatant disregard for the rules.
They gray areas between legit and violation are long-since passed and they are in the black.
Some of the people involved were looking to get their name out there, some of them just wanted to go to the Sweet 16 and I believe some of them really just wanted to help some kids out that really could have used it - but when you're talking about amateur sports there is no "helping kids out" when it comes to free plane rides and housing.
